  1. Hardbodies: depends on the tow point , if it is made from wire ( nice smooth round cross section) I will tie on with a uni knot . If the tow point is stamped sheet metal I run a snap - I always remove any split rings on the tow point . Metals , blade spinners ,metal blades/ vibes , wobblers : I either remove any rings and use a snap swivel or fit a swivel to the ring - more often than not the first option. Soft plastics : tied on with a uni knot but occasionally I will run a worm hook and a small ball sinker captured in a loop knot - you can run a bigger loop ( say 50mm long ) with buoyant plastics like zman which lets the plastic float off the bottom a little . I would liked to have seen if there was a difference in action with poppers , jerk shads and lipless crank baits.
  2. Ok job done ! Julia got her answer , gave Fishraider a big plug , Gave Blackfish a mention then added a link to the forum - hope that Julia and Alex check out Fishraider and sign up !
  3. Thanks Blackfish - I had a feeling that you would know ! I will let Julia know what it is and that it was a Fishraider member that gave me the answer . Hopefully she might join us !
  4. G’day Raiders, Can anyone identify this fish ? It was caught offshore at culburra beach area . Looks like some sort of wrasse or parrot fish to me .

    5 & a Powerball.

With my luck I would drop dead before I could spend a cent of it 🤣🤣
  6. Wait until you are stuck knee deep in parra river mud and all your mates want to do is roll around laughing ! They eventually came to help me and luckily found a bit of wood in the mangroves that they used to stand on while they dug me out - lost a gumboot though ! The one thing that struck me was there was a layer of mud , then a layer of black greasy stuff that made my eyes water from the chemicals and under all that was clean sand so it makes me wonder what the river was really like before any sort of industrial activity .
  7. No worries Nick , I will send you a pm and it would be a good idea to edit your reply to remove your phone number !
  8. I have a mag bream I built- maybe 28yrs ago, maybe 30 I dunno , total length is a nudge under 11’3 and set up for a sidecast or centre pin. I no longer use this and was only keeping it as I couldn’t bare to see it go in the bin - it’s yours if you want it - it’s not the thing of beauty it once was , it has caught a lot of fish and can still catch a lot more ! They’re not as heavy as the old solid glass rod I had when I was a kid , a lot of that is hype from tackle stores and rod manufacturers trying to sell you the new super duper graphite rods - yeah sure they’re light but are damaged easily and if I had to choose between glass and graphite for fishing off the rocks it would be glass every time.
  9. Ok cool ! Thanks ! Also what is the weed attached to ? Or is it free floating ?
  10. Thanks ! All great info there ! what are you using for the weed to grow on ?
  11. If you ever had a secret you needed someone to keep better to choose a luderick fisho - you literally have to bludgeon them to death to get the secret location of their weed supply so I think your secret would be pretty safe 🤣🤣🤣 I’m going to have a go at growing my own very soon - I’m sick of trying to find it or driving to the ocean rocks ( 1hr + drive ) and trying to balance that with tides and swell conditions .

    Sun safety

It doesn’t take long to cop a burn ! I was outside yesterday in the sun for maybe 45min and copped some sunburn on my neck . I wasn’t in the sun the whole time and couldn’t even feel myself getting burnt. For fishing I use track pants and a collared long sleeved work shirt and I’m wearing both of these from home so I can’t leave them behind . I have sunscreen and sunglasses stashed everywhere , in the boat , car and every tackle bag / box I own so it is impossible to leave them at home ! The sunglasses I use as backups are just the cheap tinted safety glasses I wear at work ( I buy a box of them )- sure they’re not the good polarised ones I usually wear but they still protect my eyes from UV rays . I also have spare hats hidden in the boat and car - the wide brim type from a safety shop - iirc they cost $10-$15 each . One area a lot of fishos neglect to protect is their feet , I have lost count of the amount of times I have seen someone wearing all the good sun gear ( including a buff or solar tube and gloves ) but are barefooted! My feet and between my toes is the first place my skin doctor checks when I do my annual skin cancer check so for me it’s socks and crocs in the boat .
  13. It won’t be long before you dive into the dark art of float making 🤣🤣🤣 . Like lure making it is a hobby in its own right!
  14. Ripper haul there Yowie!
  15. You can get these from a tackle store located in Coffs Harbour , I use the alvey float but you are looking at $230-$280 for one new . Can’t vouch for these reels below as I have never used them or even looked at one. You can buy this one through the Deckee store as well .
  16. It is a stupid law to stop people parking trucks at home . It should have a clause in it stating a long vehicle is any vehicle over 4.5t gvm and longer than 7.5m or cars with trailer is exempt. Deep down the residents there want the ramp gone so I would say they have lobbied there council to install the signs .
  17. Have a look at some of the battery powered lights available for kayaks etc - they have their own internal battery which will leave the 7ah battery for the sounder and save you having to run cables . The striker 5cv has a current draw of 1.5amps according to Garmin so don’t expect a 7ah battery to run it for more than 2-3 hours depending on what type of battery it is - SLA or lithium ion. SLA( sealed lead acid ) you only really get around 50% of it as the voltage starts to drop around there and the sounder will sense low voltage and shut off , lithium will give you more of the rated capacity - closer to 100% before the internal battery management system will shut off - typically around 10 volts and I think you can change the settings on the sounder to either adjust or turn of auto low voltage shut down . a few examples of the lights are below- if you want to know where they are from let me know and I will pm the info to you .
  18. Expensive stuff for the amount you get - I was looking at < name forbidden > the other day and it was like $15 for a tiny container of it. I had a mate who used the orange stuff for trout as it looks like trout eggs and he did ok on it - you could probably use a tiny piece of carrot to catch them if it is the colour that is attracting them . I have some small orange sinkers I want to try for trout - hoping the colour will attract them towards my bait , I’ll get around to it one day !
  19. G’day Raiders, This popped up on one of the mugbook groups I frequent and I haven’t seen it on Fishraider ( if it has been shown I didn’t see it ) anyhow some bright spark has decided to block of a giant chunk of the parking area at parsley bay to film some silly tv show - just a FYI for any raiders thinking of using this ramp or the one at the road bridge in the next few days .
  20. In the post I linked they do show the one you want . What is it in the map you are specifically looking for ? There are some members on here that have extensive knowledge of the Jervis bay region .
  21. Found this on Fishraider, not sure if these guys are still with us or not though . I had a copy of this book maybe 25-30 yrs ago , gave it to a guy i worked with .
  22. You can try float fishing in close , run your bait about a metre off the bottom and fish the last and first hour either side of a tide change . What bait did you use ?
  23. I believe that the more choices you have in front of you the more time you will spend trying to decide ! I used to lug around a lot of sinkers when beach fishing thinking I would need them but in reality once conditions got rough enough to need the big ones the beach became unfishable anyway. I now carry maybe half a dozen sinkers - a couple of #2 ball ,a couple of #4ball and a couple of medium star sinkers. I was doing the same with jig heads and have also limited what I carry there as well as have any gulp plastics as they leak and stink -I would rather add scent myself anyway .
