Hey Raiders, Looking for a way to take my dog with me rock fishing and I've been putting my brain's energy towards MacGyvering a way to tether him securely while I'm fishing. So far the best option I've come up with is a rock climbing "friend" which is basically a tether point you can insert in a rock crack which will expand to lock in the crack. Only drama here is the price as they start at over $100 and I'd assume they wouldn't be designed to stand up to salt water. Does anyone out there have a suggestion? Thanks, SD

Hey raiders, I remember as a young boy seeing my great-grandfather feed his dog fish frames. The dog would devour bream and whiting frames (guts removed) and loved them. One time he had a rock cod die on the hook so he gutted it and Barry ate the entire fish. Apparently pop had been doing this his whole life with every dog he ever had. I always assumed this was a terrible idea and the bones could potentially get stuck in the dogs throat but it never did Barry any harm. Does anyone out there know if feeding fish to dogs is dangerous? SD

5-20g cast weight? My rod for the light jig heads is 1-3kg, 10ft, graphite, 6lb braid. Is you spool full of braid? You start to lose cast distance pretty quick of the spools not full.

It's all part of the lure game challenge mate. Sometimes you can move to somewhere better, sometimes a more aggressive action will keep it away from the bottom and the weed beds, sometimes there is just so much weed floating around that fishing lures is near impossible. You can persist and still catch fish but its harder. You can usually feel when you've hooked some weed, just quickly wind in and try again.

The young fella has some skills! Wish I could sing or play guitar like that. Hopefully car prices return to a reasonable level soon for him.

Those splash prawns are very handy, they seems to be very popular with plenty of yummy species.

A soft plastic destroying menace is what that is.

Hey Raiders, I'm on the hunt for some waders that can take a fair bit of punishment and not cost a fortune. They need to be steel/safety toe and be tough, ideally ripstop or similar. Struggling to find a suitable option. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it! SD

I swear marina/wharf fish are smarter. Hire a boat and have a flick next to the oyster leases in coolongolook river.

Flatties hit the plastics when you lift you rod, lifting the lure up from the bottom. Bream hit the plastics whilst they are sinking. Bream want the plastic to look like its naturally floating around / slowly sinking. Bream like a bit of structure like oyster leases, moored boats, wharfs, mangroves. For flatties I use heavier jigheads (1/4) with a big hook and a 3" plastics. For bream I use the lightest practical jighead (1/16 or 1/20) with a small hook and a smaller plastic. I use my 6lb setup for bream. Both like a plastic with a good wriggly tail action. Technique for both the same. Cast, let plastic sink to the bottom, lift rod, lower rod, wind up slack, allow to sink, repeat. For bream I keep my finger on my braid so I can feel the bites/know when it hits the bottom. Hard to go past the nuclear chicken grub tail plastics. Good luck.

There have been plenty of fish around the beaches of Jervis Bay of late. If you don't want to head all the way out to Murrays ramp any of the beaches would be worth a try. Callala or Culburra are usually very kid friendly.

Found myself at the beach today for work. Didn't bring a rod =( Monster tailor busting up all day, heaps of them as well. Might be a good weekend to go for a spin south coast NSW.

Great report mate, some cracking fish! On a side note it does show how pathetic shark nets are, think of all the marine life killed in them just because some humans are scared of what lives in the ocean.

We actually already have some capacity in that regard. Kangaroo River, Tallowa Dam, Fitzroy Falls & Wingecarribee Reservoir are all connected (pipelines and channels) and water can be pumped between these reservoirs, ran through the hydro at Bendeela, and/or released into Warragamba dam or the Nepean, Shoalhaven or Wingecarribee rivers. It's quite a feat of engineering. Big problem being that usually when one is full they all are full.

I reckon squid fishing get better when the weather is average and the water a bit choppy. Nice catch mate.

Same as cars, if they think you might have the intention of operating the boat you can be tested and fined; at anchor, jetty mored. Probably depends a bit on the cop as to how that is enforced. Ill have one or two while im out fishing but they dont replace water, easy to go over the limit cooking in the sun on a boat.
