  1. Thanks for the prompt reply. Nothing specific that ive heard personally, however I do know from word of mouth especially visiting tackle stores and fishing friends that they are skeptical in taking home their catches from areas around the Harbor. That said, knowing that the Eastern side of the Harbor Bridge is closer to the waterway that leads past The Spit has led to be worried about these guidelines and warning people to limit what we eat.
  2. I was fishing with a friend a few weeks ago and although we didnt hook onto a blue ring octopus, we noticed when he retrieved his lures in he kept getting some sticky blue fluid on his line. We suspected it could have been from then, and we were right about it because the moment he tried to wipe it off he went through some pain. Got to be careful of that type of stuff if you dont already know about it!
  3. Hi all, I have been doing some research on some new flathead spots recently and am wanting to try middle harbor from the inner side out from The Spit. As you can see from the map that I have attached, I have been driving during my free time to some spots around these areas around Northbridge and have found some good spots to start from. My question is, how far in can I push myself inland to the point where I shouldnt eat what I catch in these spots? Anyone been eating fish around say Roseville the past years with no issues? Any information regarding this will be helpful, Thanks!
  4. @jgoodare Hey just came across this post. I was interested to know if the flats in this area span out far? I have been eyeing this spot for a while since practicing much in Narrabeen. I would like to practice other areas but this area being a bit too far for me I wonder if its worth the spot as long as I get to wade out a long way. Thanks!
  5. Hey all, I have been getting into lagoon bait fishing recently to target Flathead. I have been using pilchards and get constant nibbles. Even though I use hooks sized 3/0 and above, all the small fish in the area eat around the hook and and always left over with the bones. Methods I have tried using to keep the bait on are using combinations of larger sized octopus hooks, baitkeeper hooks and stinger hooks. I have also tried using some string material that you can wrap many times to hold the bait. I have yet to try salted pilchards. Im determined to know if there is anyone out here that knows some methods not mentioned to keep these pilchards or other great flathead baits on their hooks! Also interested to know any additional tips on Flathead around this time of season as its been very slow. I have fished over about 3-4 weekends at Narrabeen Lagoon and have only caught 2 Flathead, one JUST legal and one undersized. Thanks in advanced!
  6. Hi everyone, my name is Daniel and new to Deckee. First of all, I appreciate any help I can get at all with this question. I have recently gotten into flats fishing and the only location I know to fish is in Narrabeen Lagoon. I was wondering if there are flats near the Northern Beaches I can fish? I have been there multiple sessions recently and all I catch is bream, tarwhine and whiting. I am primarily looking for Flathead, with light gear on lures and also basic leader, small ball sinker and hook setup. In terms of searching for flathead, how do I locate them? I see on maps at times where the are two separated sections of water, light and dark. Do I just cast along that line of separation? Thanks all, Daniel
  7. Hi guys, I have a genuine curiosity about the reasons why most of our Sydney beaches usually have rougher conditions compared to the coastal beaches further up north and the south. I see a lot of youtubers fish top water lures in calmer waters and have an easier time catching worms but where im from where the beaches I usually traverse are between Palm Beach all the way down to Cronulla, the beaches here usually don't have those consistent conditions where swells are low and waves are calmer for allowing more top water fishing in the beach and easy worming. Does anyone know any good coastal areas that fit this criteria? The only places I've seen are bays like dolls point or the opposite end of palm beach and where narrabeen lagoon is..
  8. Hi guys, I had a question on servicing and maintenance on reels. My story goes I bought a Shimano Twinpower and Stradic FL from Japan and i've heard we don't service reels bought outside of our country. I'd like to know if its safe to go ahead pulling apart my own reels and cleaning them up, as i've never tried so myself. Of course I will read some guides and watch videos but at the same time im not skilled with this sort of stuff so im afraid to damage any sensitive parts to the reel itself. Any advice will be appreciated, Thank you!
