  1. Cheers Yellow Stealth. I think I'll grab one when the time come, or if the incorporate the same tacklepod as the reload in the 400 after they start making them again, I'd probably go 400, but that tacklepod appeals to me the most.
  2. Later in the year I would like to upgrade my from my current kayak to something that is a bit more capable. I've got a cheap k2f 2.7m kayak at the moment, that I use in lake macquarie. I would like a paddle kayak that is still very usable in estuary, lake etc, but wouldn't mind something that is capable of surf launches to venture 'outside' but close as I don't think I'd want to venture to far wide. I've been looking online, Stealth look like a great bit of kit, like the big hatch they have, but very offshore orientated I think (correct me if I'm wrong), and probably too pricey for what I want to spend. I think Viking profish kayaks are what I'm considering at the moment, I like the Load and Go tacklepod the Reload has but the Reload is longer, slimmer and heavier than the Profish400 which is the other kayak I've been looking at online. The 400 has a tacklepod option but not standard and albeit a different version that doesn't incorporate a transducer mounted to the pod and is only held in by bungee cords, where as the Reload come standard with the load and go tacklepod that does incorporate the transducer, additionally the pod looks a lot more secure. Are they both reasonably similar in the surf zone, if you want to surf them? The 400 retails by the looks at $1700 without the tacklepod which is another $300 buck, ie $2000 with pod. Where as the Reload retails by the looks for $2500 and includes pod. Is it best to pay the extra $500 and get the reload? Or is the 400 the better all rounder? Hope that make sense and is not too many questions.
  3. Though I'd add my povo temporary transducer mount. Until I get some stuff to mount it in the hull area.
  4. I'm all for buying Australian made products when I can, I do have the older Alvey 475B which I believe they no longer make but was alot cheaper then the replacement which is the Alvey float series 47GZ, which is about $180 bucks from memory. What I'm trying to say is if you want a centrepin but don't want to part with that much cash up front there are E bay type example for a lot less, can't vouch for their quality but it may be an option. Or you could look at 2nd hand Alvey, Steelite , etc as long as they are in decent working order.
  5. It is in a similar vein to why a PWC license was brought in for operating jetskis on the water, prior to that you only needed a boat license, however after rising incidents involving jetskis on waterways due to a lot to do with how a lot of people operate them PWC became a thing. I can remember of an incident early 2000s , where on the Gold coast, with a newly wed couple where the wife was in the water and the husband struck her with the jetski he was operating and killed her.
  6. Cheers Foghorn, hadn't thought about the temp working but that makes sense once the hull temp adjust to the water its sitting in.
  7. Thanks for the reply Restyle. The putty I was referring to remains malleable where as kneed-it I believes hardens after application. I actually found where it possibly can be purchased from after my initial post last night. https://adaptaust.com.au/product/duct-seal-putty/ Not really worried about the temperature function, but more concerned whether downview/clearVU still works with through hull installation. I've erred the idea of mounting it externally but I think with my clumsiness it would end up damaged.
  8. Well after wanting a finder for a while I took the plunge and bought a Garmin Striker 4CV on Anacondas easter period sale for $280. I only have a small cheap yak (kayak2fish older version of Osprey), like the size of the Striker 4CV with it not being too obtrusive and also didn't have a ample of coin to spend on a finder. But I have a few questions on mounting the transducer.. I would like to be able to mount it so it can be removed, as I may later in the year either upgrade to a bigger/better kayak or Tinnie. 1) I've seen mention of places of foam being glued down to the inner yak hull and a cut out made in the foam for the transducer to sit in, however what I don't understand does the transducer need to be glued to the foam or does it slip just tightly into the foam and does the foam need to be wet or can it be dry? 2) I've also seen duct seal / putty used in a couple youtube videos which are USA based. Pretty sure its the same that I've used in small amounts in the telco industry in the past but don't have access to anymore. Has anyone used this method, and where were you able to purchase the duct seal/putty from locally in Australia? 3) I understand that water temperature function won't work or will be inaccurate but does downview/clearVu work with through hull transducer mounting?
  9. That was a good read. Enjoyed it. I often think I was born 30years too late, though I do like technology. Caught my first silver trevally last weekend as a by-catch fishing for bream, maybe I like to eat fish too much, I actually enjoyed eating it, perhaps not as much a bream or blackfish though.
  10. Thanks for replies guys. Been fishing with Black Queen rod 8ft (I know a little on short side have a 10ft 6 waiting to be delivered). Number 10 gamatsu pan hooks. 6.5 lb leader (about 2ft long) Float weighted so only stem shown. And been fishing about 6 to 8ft depth..
  11. As I'm new to this, thought was best to try my luck at Lucy's wall. First tried low tide without any luck a couple weeks back. Went back following week for second time using weed collected week before this time around high tide. Again no downs but old mate a bit over 5metres was having luck , who after seeing me have no luck for half hour or so asked me how old my bait was. Which after telling him one week came over to me and graciously gave me half of what was left of his cabbage. So thank you again of you are on here. With that I hooked one and dropped it as I was landing it, got busted off and miss hooked another. So though didn't bring anything home it was good fun. Went back the following day again around high tide, but no action. And just went back today with weed and cabbage collected yesterday, got one hookup but busted hook off and then something else that jumped out of the water and snapped me off but nothing else , whilst another guy fishing for luderick bagged out whilst I was there . Any further tips? But wasn't a total luckless weekend , got two bream and silver trevally off the kayak yesterday within the lake.
  12. Cheers, pretty sure I know where you mean now. Why is it called Stinky corner though?
  13. What's stinky corner in Warners bay, is it near the boatramp?
  14. Thanks. Seems to be the consensus with the channel. I was just hoping to find some spots closer to where I lived. But may get down there if I have no luck up closer to my end of the lake.
  15. Cheers, I've heard Lucy's wall is pretty good, just a bit of a hike for me. I had thought Eraring was closed at this time of year but a mate said that is only closed after 6pm to 6am of an evening. Will try some of those. Had a try on the western side of Bolton point over the weekend and didn't have any luck at all.
  16. Hi, Anyone able to share or mind sharing a couple luderick spots within Lake Macquarie either shore based or accessible by kayak. Preferebly north or north west of the lake?
