  1. I was actually going to ask the same question. whats causing the general slow down of the fish this season? is it the rains, the heat, the cold, the water temp? is it just a late season? does anyone know? in saying that i think its about to get better. I had 4 sessions between mid to late December and struggled to get livies and spoke to a lot of boaties and no one was catching anything. everyone was saying it was just slow. I went out earlier this week and caught a dozen livies in 20 minutes and there was a few schools of fish busting in teh harbour. I have mates who ducked outside and they picked up 6 kings just outside the heads. I am assuming this rain and murky water has pushed them out, but hoping they'll come in agian soon. figers crossed. can anyone shed light on the behavior of kingfish in regard to weather, water temp and water murkiness and if they go in and out of the harbour due to these? always trying to learn so we can beat them one day. 2. well done scratchie. we head up there for Christmas every year and head out to the sisters, broughton east, vee, 21, mungo etc always looking for the nice red. sometimes we fail and other times we get on. gee it feels good when you land a nice red. Im heading up there this weekend with a couple of mates in a small tinnie, so no going outside this weekend. do you know any good spots I can try on the inside. probably a combo of early moring and afternoon and maybe even a night fish. depending when we can drag ourselves away from the local. well done again. 3. good catch guys, well done. did you get the kings inside the bay or outside the heads?
  4. Hi Guys, ive got a work function on tonight close to centennial park and as a keen fisho i always carry a rod in the car with a bit of gear (yes my car stinks sometimes). i wouldnt mind ducking out early and going for a quick squid flick if i can get out. I usually try to get squid from the tinnie or land based from middle harbour. I've never been squidding around double bay, rose bay, rushcutter bay etc. The question is, are there any good spots around these areas that a fishraider can help me out with. not necessarily someones spot x, but a general wharf etc would be great. i only have a couple of hours, so want to make the most of it. PM if you prefer and any help would be appreciated. JayKay
  5. Thats a great little session. 1 question for you. There is a few days between now and the weekend. How do you store or freeze the squid? saltwater, freezer, fridge etc. i've had a few people tell me completely different things. thanks.
  6. Thanks Caine. wouldnt of thought of using a float. Hopefully I get a few. does anyone reckon they will take bait like prawn or pilchard? or someone suggested bread? I looked on the website and doesnt say anything about restriction of methods. might have to take the drag net.
  7. Hi Everyone, I just got a call from a mate who said he booked me and him a session for the blacktown council trout fishing "family fish day". I've never heard of this so a quick google and it seems that the local council fill Mount druitt pool with over 400 trout and allow anglers of all ages and experience to go for an hour and fish and try to catch as many trout as possible. There are a 3 sessions per day which allow everyone a chance. They advised there is a maximum of 4 fish per angler that we can take home (if we catch them). I have one major problem (amongst many others). While I have caught many salt water species on lures and bait, i have never fished for trout or even in freshwater. what do i do in regartds to bait, tackle and technique. is my 2-4kg bream rod and 2500 reel suitable? what size hooks. do i use bait or plastics or go out and buy flys. any help will be appreciated and make the day more enjoyable. whatever happens it will be a learning experience. Regards JayKay
  8. awsome haul. sound like you guys had fun. just a quick question what size strips do you guys put on. some people use thicker ones, but some people say go long and thin. I want to try out the new downrigger this weekend. next problem is i need to get some squid. Jaykay
  9. Nice fish mate. We went to the harbour today. it was certainly nice to get out and the water was like glass. we couldnt get any squid, so we settled for yakkas and that landed us 1 legal king. What were you using to catch them all today. Jaykay
  10. Thanks jim77. I was using light gear and got smoked big time. everytime I got a metre, he got about 5mtrs on me. had no chance.
  11. Good effort cflife. What gear were you using, line, hooks rod/reel etc. i want to go out this weekend and dont want a repeat of getting smoked last week on light gear.
  12. great report. kept me on the edge and all i want to do now is launch the boat.

    Crabs

Hi all, i have recently brought home my tinnie which was sitting at my inlaws place down south. I decided on my last 2 fishing trips to put in some witches hats and a pot in a local bay to see if I can get any blue swimmers. Unfortunately on both occassions after letting them soak for a few hours, Ilifted them to find nothing, now i mean the baits werent even nibbled on. I know we're at the beginning of april, but is it too late to get a couple of blue swimmers? has anyone been out in parra river or west of the harbour bridge and been successful? If so, what baits were you using, where abouts seems to be better (a general area would be great). If not when is the best times to be getting these pots back into the water. Also, I have heard a lot of argument about trying for crabs during the day or night. whats raiders opinions on that? Any help will be appreciated. Jaykay
  14. Hi Guys, I live in the canada bay area and used to go to cabarita park/wharf to fish for a couple of hours every so often. There seems to be the same type of idiot each time i go. One guy once walked past a bin and threw his foam coffee cup straight into the water. They are unlicenced, keep undersized fish (buckets of them) and make a mess. There was a sign on cabarita wharf saying "no fishing from the wharf", but the idiots keep pulling it down, I suspect to say they didnt know if authorities arive. I dont know what the answer is, but i would start by having a fisheries officer regularly attend these wharves. if they are worried about their budget or funding, I guarantee, the revenue raised from unlicenced fishos and illegal fishing would cover the extra couple of shifts. I just want to be able to take my kids to fish in these areas in a safe enviroment, and have them catch something, not say "we used to catch heaps here until the idiots cleaned out the fish stock by catching undersized fish".
  15. Thanks guys for all the help. will have to just give it another go and see what happens next time. Also, does any know where we can pump nippers in parra river and are you allowed??? JayKay
