  1. hi, everyone just wondering whether there is any restrictions placed on recreationally collecting cockles from beaches in sydney area? for example, taren point area or water near captain cook bridge? if there is any, what exactly is the restriction? if there is no specific prohibition, does that mean anyone with a fishing license is allowed to take home up to 50 cockles? ps. apart from cooking in salted water and using seafood sauce, any other ways to eat cockles? and any pollution issues with cockles in sydney area? thanks in advance
  2. nice grouper, havent got a chance to get out there to catch one these days. very itchy ....ai....
  3. Very funny looking fish.. taste nice?
  4. Top fish.. ah cha cha cha cha..... Thats it, I am getting up before sun rise tomorrow, regardless of what weather it is gonna be I am going fishing.
  5. nice pigs, is this landbased or boat fishing?
  6. Great work. What a funny lure u got there..it actually worked too. interesting. I ve got one of those at home, never tried it out though. May bring it wiht me next time. Vinflattie
  7. nice lyrics u came up with there. we went to botany bay tongiht for a quick session, about an hour or so, got absolutely nothing either. managed to get a bucket full of red rock crabs tho. may spare out some time this week to fight with the big blue groper aye? anyways, take care and good luck with the exams
  8. thanks Rockhoppin, although the weather is not perfect this weekend, but me and my mates have decided to give groper fishing another try. i will take ur advice and hopefully we will get a blue one?! ps. if u r interested, maybe we can go fishing together after my exams, i will supply the red rock crabs and u teach me some serious techniques..
  9. i personally prefer medium sized ones. some of them grow up to size of my fist but i find them very hard to use. it will be pretty difficult to fit them decently on my hooks. however, my mate tried once using a huge crab and guess what happened. it got a sudden strong bite and he lost his 3.6m shimano rod and reel. the rod sank down to the bottom of the sea like there is no tomorrow. yes, they r those red brownish colour suckers running around the rocks near low tide, u can easily capture them if u go at the right time. cheers.
  10. mate, i am very interested in groper fishing. do you have any secrets to share with us? i have been using 80lb fireline, snapper sinker and mustad 5/0 (double) hooks to target gropers, my main bait is red rock crab, cunjovi and king prawns, sometimes i berley with sea-urchins. however, the gropers I caught were all 5kg under, same goes for my mates. Other groper fishermen often pull 10 kg+ gropers but we have never had such success. Is there any way to target gropers in bigger size or is this just purely a matter of luck? when u say we gotta make sure the bait is well presented, can u be more specific? do u run ur hook thru the legs or thru the case? thanks heaps.
  11. ya, its for the bloody migration law essay. phew...at least its out of our way and now there is no excuses for not going fishing.. mate if u want squid, i will give u squid as long as u dont mind doing a fair bit of driving. i know a place in wollongong, it is like the venue for squids and cuttles to host their sexpos aye?! lifting cuttles weighing up to 7 kgs is like lifting a bag of sunrise medium grain rice with ur fishing rod and it could be fun sometimes. holla back if u have interest in getting some rice aye?
  12. mate...be4 i fninshed reading the first paragraph i realised it was u danilo....then i checked out who posted this thread, proved me right....haahhaha ya man, i hv just managed some extension ey?! but unfortunately havent got any chance to get out for some fishing, its been bloody more than 10 days since i last touched my fishing rods...driving me insane. i personally reckon, the best time to squid is around sunset and sunrise, something like 2am wouldnt give any decent results aye? if 2am is a must then ya glow-in-the-dark squid-jig is essential or if u r using bait put a glow-in-the-dark tube somewhere close to ur bait. try using whittings. i have managed a few cuttles and squids using that as bait. cheers bro.
  13. groper fishermen use 80lb+ lines often. my friends and I are all using 80lb fireline, and we know ppl using 150lb lines too with double hooks to hold the red crabs as bait. true that if u get snagged, it may be quite a frustrating and tiring experience. awesome fish indeed. we have been targeting gropers for a few months, none of us has caught a blue one yet. well done.
  14. they r frigging everywhere, we were using red rock crab to catch gropers on wednesday and even with that we got 2 pj sharks. urgh...
  15. hi everyone, we went down to the Ovens today, went down the track and got to the cliff.. the beatiful fishing spot was right in front of us, water was deep, open sea, flat safe platform. However, we could not gain access. The cliff was about 3 stories high, we did not find anywhere to tie the rope to and we couldnt find a safe path down. Maybe you are right, the locals have been grinding the anchorage point off to stop ppl from fishing there.. argh. there was another way to get to that gold rock platform, which is to walk from the beach along the rock beds (about 1.5 km walk?) but we gave up on that and just fished somewhere close to the beach. did not get any decent fish today. Saw others pulling huge drummers out but there was no more action after 9am. anyways. just thought this info might help if anyone else interested in giving that spot a try. Cheers.
