  1. Sometimes it pays to have it properly serviced by a pro worth the cost
  2. I say just buy a new one, I did, bought it on special and the battery last 10 years, its a gme did not have to change the bracket iether with gps so better than my last one and cheaper
  3. Dorado 2

    Safe boating

To be honest mate a boat that size if you want to fish in comfort you wouldn't want to take anymore than 3 onboard. If you are fishing in the bay you only need one 23 litre tank for fuel and like like Fab said you should have another tackle box smaller with the tackle you need to fish on the day be it offshore or inshore. I always leave my big tackle box at home and pack my secondary one for what I need on the day. Yes I have had 5 family members on the boat but only to go to a specific beach just to enjoy the day with family soaking up the sun no fishing. Cheers
  4. A while back you were able to join as an associate member of the coast guard for a small fee and you would be put in their computer system with all your details such as Phone number rego of car rego of boat size colour of hull and you would be given a call sign mine is ENS 509 my boat is actually named Dorado 2 and it really does not matter on the day when you go fishing what you use as long as they can identify you when you call to log on. I guess if there is another boat on the day that has the same name on the water they would just say to me that for that day I will be called Dorado 1 or 3 it does not matter. I also did try to email them of late to find out what is happening but no response so one of these days I will go to Port Kembla on hill 61 i think and see what is happening from the horses mouth, have been there in the past to make a few donations but I have slackened off of late. Hope this is of some help to you Cheers Hey guys just noticed the time daylight saving still has another week to go!! lol
  5. I was out yesterday, wollongong water was really messy but still decided to go out to the waverider Temp reading 19.6 and did not budge all the way through did not bother to go out to the outer fad. Result no dollies to be seen Cheers
  6. Kwells but I think and I am certain about this that it is what you eat the night before that comes into play here so therefor I make sure that no spicey or any oily foods come near my mouth and instead I just have a couple of rolls with cheese for dinner. Morning just some toast and important not to leave with an empty stomach, plenty of nice cold water some dry biscuits like ritz and I take a couple of cheese sandwiches. I take one 20 minutes before I set foot on the boat and another I soon as I jump on. Cheers
  7. Same here the Fords are real value for money and like the others said you don't know you are towing anything behind you. Could not get the XR6 model as I have a very awkward driveway and they are a little lower to the ground so I bought an XT and fitted a couple of air bags in the rear suspension and she is a dream. Never bothered to put the extra cooler either on the last ford Au111 but gave the transmission a service every year and she is still going strong as my son owns that car now. Well I guess that more people are buying diesels these days as they are supposed to be more economical and we are following the European trend as they had been hammered with high fuel costs for the last two and half decades and I suppose will be, if not already is starting to be a consideration here too now. Cheers
  8. Oh well mate it seems that the buddies work for some but not for others, I thank God I'm one of the lucky ones because I have saved a lot of dough on bearings. When I first started boating had a few problems with the bearings, a few guys at work advised me to get them and never looked back. In saying that I have no more to say and I hope locodave finds the solutions he is looking for, that will work best for him. Cheers
  9. In sixteen years I have been using bearing buddies I have never blown the back seal if you pump the grease properly!!! the buddies have a front spring where the nipple is and you just pump till the nipple comes forward and that is it, no more pumping. http://www.bearingbuddy.com/ which can be obtained from cbc bearings. Quite obvious there are a few that don't know how to use them, again if they are using the original buddies. Read the content on the site and should answere all your questions cheers
  10. In the 25 years that I have been going to the Brisbane waters never have I seen any sort of Bar crossing, it does get shallow beyond the red channel marker but between the red and green it is quite deep with no danger at all!!! I even cut across to go to lion island without a problem and you can visually easily see the shallow spots. Anyhow if your new to the area just follow the channel markers and you will not have a problem at all. You definitely do not need to wear life jackets. Half tide rocks can get a little wobbly, nothing to worry about either, again stick to the channel markers and it is very deep within the markers. Anyhow trust me that when you go there you will see for yourself that there is nothing to worry about. Cheers
  11. Bearing Buddies are great, as long as you buy the original American ones and not the cheap useless ones you find at most places. My trailer has the same bearings since I bought my rig in 2003 and I just give it a squirt of grease every 2 to 3 outings. The boat trailer I had before this one, the same roughly 8 years same bearings!! Cheers
  12. Hi Mate I have a boeing trailer since 2003 and she is still looking good, suspension is galled and I reckon I still have at least another six years before she needs any attention. I always give it a good rinse and that's it, still with the original bearings as well so make sure you put a pair of bearing buddies on it the original usa one's. Self centering easy to bring the boat up on your own Cheers
  13. Maybe fibreglassing can be an option that I would use, and then just cut the hole out again using a holesaw so that it all comes out neat. Cheers
  14. HI Wazz I do have the G2 software It's ok nothing to complain about but I have bought a section and not the entire map of Australia If you go to the garmin site it will show you the sections that you can buy. I really bought it so that I can have a detailed image of whats under the water example reefs etc but certain places that I went to I did not get the detail I was expecting. But on the whole I'm happy with it. Cheers
