  1. wouldnt be a bad idea to see if a popper does the trick
  2. Went up to port over the weekend with plenty of action. We found some small blacks up around the Gibber but were unlucky to get 0 from 3. All were hooked slow trawling slimmies. Water temp at Gibber 23.6 and 22.9 out wider. Plenty of surface action in 80-100m water where we got into the yellow fin, small 5-10kg range on deep divers and 6 inch skirts. From what i heard the car park was pretty quiet over the weekend. Plenty of reds came out of the sisters also as there is plenty of bait and bonito in the area. Had a great weekend might head up again this weekend
  3. hi all, just wondering if anyone could share the gps coordinates for allmark mountain in port stephens. any info would be appreciated. cheers

  5. looks like a sergeant baker nice flatties well done
  6. Hey mate, I use to come across this problem. What i found is that yellow tail will generally not come to the surface so i float a bait on a hand line no sinker and tiny hook and the slimies seem to hit the bait befor the yakkas. this is my experience there might be an easier way though. cheers
  7. by the sound of it i went on the same dud charter 3 years ago. the guy wouldnt let us touch the rods or supply food like the flyer said. The guy has a really bad attitude too. waste of money didnt catch a thing all day just sat at the wreck for the entire half day.
  8. we headed out on sunday to both fads trolled around for nothing. Dropped live baits and the bot bay east fad for a few undersized kings. Trolled to 12 mile and shelf for nothing. As you said current are funny and the water is too cold. we saw heaps of birds but also sounded no bait fish. Shit happens wont be long though. Oh while jigging at 12 mile we foul hooked the biggest leather jacket which went over 60cm
  9. Kosta, It would be a good idea to take someone experienced with you. Check all weather forcasts and log in with the coast guard. On a calm day you wont have any problem getting outside as there is no bar crossing in botany bay. As for fishing without a sounder, maybe you could throw plastics in the washes on north head. a few snapper and kingies around at the moment. Or drifting outside for flat head in 30-50m of water is another go. good luck mate
  10. Just thought i would express my absolute dissapointment with what i saw yesterday in Botany Bay. I have lived and fished this area all my life and am now enjoying its rejuvination. I live in the area and saw a sailing boat beached at low tide and propped up on the beach. To my suprise the owner decided to scape old antifowl off the bottom of his boat and repaint it on the sand. Paint scrapings and probably paint splatter have now entered the waterway. Im not one to stick my nose in but I was so disgusted to see this so i first rang the waterways, waterways then told me to report it to council, council then told me to report it to waterways. I gave up so i rang Botany Bay Water Police who were somewhat helpful although they said they too were not the appropriate authority to be speaking to. Who is reponsible for policing such an issue? Nothing was done in the end and the boat has now been refloated and a mess left on the beach. We have so many marinas in the area where you can hire the appropriate equipment to repair your boat without polluting our waterways.
  11. give me a badge, uniform and taser and ill volunteer
  12. If you ask me, fish sizes should be policed more than fishing licences....i was boarded in nelson bay and was fined because my licence was expired by 2 days....the thing is every bait shop and servo in the area said that their books ran out....give me a break...ive always paid and respected the fishing licence rules and all their records would prove that i have always held a current licence.... it cant only be about capital raising.....people should be locked up for the murder of juvenile fish...
  13. Hi all just wondering if anyone could share some GPS coordinates for the humps off stanwell park.....hoping to get out tomorrow any info would be greatly appreciated
  14. Good to hear but at the same time we spotted a seal with a lure hanging out of its mouth in the bay last year. Rang the maritime and they told us there was nothing they could do unless it has beached itself. The seal was obviously in distress but hopefully ok now...
  15. Cheers for all the info guys.......let you know how goes
  16. Nice catch...were you fishing the shallows at broughton island??? good time of year for reds around the sisters... well done
  17. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone can help. Been struggling to find squid in the bay. Ive heard that bare island can produce some but where on bare island??? Im fishing from a boat.... Also fished the peak on sunday. We could see plenty of fish on the sounder on the edges of the reef but no takers on live baits or jigs. Knot failure saw us lose 1 fish. Came back in to the bay and fished the drums for some flathead and plenty of tailor. sorry no picks. After hearing about all the leather jackets at the offshore reefs i was hoping to at least get a feed but did not see any at the peak. Didnt even lose a jig.
  18. Dont these people think they have done enough......Around port stephens were have already been forced to fish the desert and to make it bigger is ridiculous.... Families and small businesses are the biggest sufferers of these marine parks....they are over the top....review bag and size limits and ban commercial fishing in these area before thinking about making people think twice about buying a boat or taking the family fishing.... just bullshit i say
  19. Based on the time of year and the nature of the fight it is cetainly an assumption but the fish were certainly not as wild as a black or stripe
  20. we had 2 50w with 24kg but with 12 inch skirts.....i think the 8-10 inch are more effective... dont know the size of the fish but they were blue marlin....probably 80-100kg
  21. Headed off sydney yesterday in very sloppy conditions.....plan was to fill up with livies and head to the wide FAD early, troll to browns and back again... For once we did as planned....nothing at the FAD although other boats were hooking up. Dollies were there but not in big numbers... Trolling towards Browns we set a nice spread of 4 lures. 2 12 inch skirts and 2 8 inch skirts...We were about 5 km off Browns when we saw a stalker in our trail.... This is our first time marlin fishing and one of the most increadable things i have seen in all my life of fishing...The marlin hooks left and hits the 8 inch skirt to which we only had 10kg gear with a shimano torsa reel....We werent planning for this but we had the fish on for a good 10min with a great arial display until it spat the lure.... A little dissapointed we headed to Browns and did a u-turn back to the shelf for no hits and back to Browns...second run back to the shelf we get a hit in the same area 24.9 degrees on the edge of the shelf...Big splash on the surface and down it went...hit the other 10kg outfit on a tiagra 16....handled the fish well but line capacity was the biggest issue...fished pulled us for 5km and we got it within 5m of the boat after 1hr....the fish went under the boat and we lost tension......also lost the fish... Bring up the line, double and wind-on still the but no lure and leader.....snap swivel was open and staightened?????????? bafling The only thing we could think of was that it was not clipped in properly..... Overall a very exciting day for our first marlin outing probably be back out next weekend.....
