  1. Thanks for your comments, guys. I asked the question concerning Long Reef Beach Aquatic Reserve because it seems to be the only Aquatic Reserve in the Sydney area where "hand held line" is mentioned.
  2. According to the restrictions at Long Reef Aquatic Reserve only hand held line fishing is permitted. Does this also apply to Long Reef Beach?
  3. Are there car parking fees for parking in Morella Road near the reserve? Is access to the reserve limited very early morning?
  4. I REALISE THAT THE H.T. DELAY RE FORT DENISON AND THE L.T. DELAY RE FORT DENISON WOULD BE DIFFERENT BUT SURELY THE HIGH AND LOW TIDE TIME DELAYS WOULD BE ROUGHLY FIXED FOR ANY TIME OVER A 24 HOUR PERIOD?
  5. COULD ANYONE PLEASE ADVISE ME OF THE HIGH AND LOW TIDE DIFFERENCES RE FORT DENISON PLEASE?
  6. Certainly not a Stargazer. Fairly slender fish .
  7. I bought a replacement Seamaster Gold MFM48 battery today from Eastern Batteries at Rosebury for an excellent $139. My former MFM48 lasted 12 years so I felt inclined to try another. The odd fish was caught 2 miles off Dover Heights and definitely was not a long tom or pike, both of which I have caught before. The body shape behind the head was similar to a Sergeant Baker but white with pale stripes. The head was less broad than a SB but rounded and the enormous mouth was angled from top to bottom. The teeth were tiny but pin sharp and very numerous. I have caught 2 previously in 55m water Thanks for your advice guys.
  8. I did pump up the primer bulb to my Yamaha to a hardness level I thought adequate but perhaps I was mistaken. It was hardly turning over at all initially and almost refrained from turning at all after 3 turns of the key fully depressed to ensure choke was on. I was about to give up since it sounded really dead when it just suddenly fired and went to full idle immediately. It remained on strong idle until warmed up and I was able to move on. After one minute I turned the motor off to check the restart which was immediate. On the odd past occasion when forgetting to prime the bulb the motor has always turned over strongly and continued to turn until I woke up to the fact of the unprimed bulb. This time it hardly turned over at all (like when trying to start a car motor with a flat battery) and I was quite surprised that it finally fired at such a slow revolution. As I stated the battery was fully charged the night before. I think it is telling me that it's time to be replaced. The battery charge was sufficient to immediately restart the motor after each drift at sea. (A dozen flathead caught but only one legal which was a pretty lousy result but the day and conditions were fabulous. I did catch an unidentified fish about 30cm long, very pale with an enormous mouth with dozens of extremely small but spikey teeth. Any ideas?) Thanks for the alternator warning. I'll ensure I don't connect the batteries in parallel.
  9. I have a 40 hp 4 stroke which was difficult to start yesterday early morning . Eventually the motor fired and there were no further problems during the morning with dozens of stops & immediate restarts. The boat is garaged and the battery is always maintained at full charge by recharging every few days , although the boat motor had not been run for 6 weeks. I have also have a 100 amphr deep cycle battery which is used solely for powering a Minna Kota. If I connect the 2 batteries in parallel (both fully charged) will the deep cycle battery give any substantial boost to the starting battery on cold mornings or is there a danger of damaging the deep cycle battery? Also if the batteries remain in parallel during 7 hours use, will the motor alternator charging damage the deep cycle battery?
  10. Before the leatherjacket plague several years ago I used to have success fishing for flathead in 50-60 m water off Bondi but the leatherjackets put a stop to that. I haven't fished out of Sydney for some time for health reasons but might try again shortly, however are leatherjackets still a major problem?
  11. It is clear from published data that the Sydney extended sewer outfalls poured considerable quantities of toxic chemicals and heavy metals into the ocean during the early years of their use. I don't know wether this is still the case but I would like to avoid the Manly outfall location when fishing east of Manly. Does anyone know the co-ordinates of the outfall disperser?
  12. Update 4.2.2 has been issued and now runs properly. Hopefully it will continue to do so!
  13. Early Sept. I installed this app version 4.2.1 on a Samsung Galaxy Ace2 phone and seemed to work perfectly but 4 days later the app failed. Navionics Support eventually advised that the app has a bug which they are trying to resolve. Has anyone had or heard of problems with this app? I have raised the question of a refund but they have not commented.
  14. Thanks guys, I might get out there this Wednesday. I've been fishing outside waters for over 40 years but rarely venture outside any longer because of irrecoverable back problems.
  15. Are worthwhile catches likely between Mooney Mooney Bridge and Spencer at the present time? Is there a fish table at the Mooney Mooney ramp? If not where is the best place to clean one's fish?
  16. Thanks for your great advice Guys. After downloading I can only agree that the app is "a must" for all boaters and even for those that are landbased.
  17. How useful is this app? Because of back disc degeneration I no longer can spend much time at sea so I don't need a gps based app for my limited sea use. My Garmin 72 is quite adequate for this use. I am however looking for an app that has useful gps active charts of Sydney Harbour and the Hawkesbury/Pittwater.
  18. Do hairtail freeze o.k. or do they go mushy?
  19. I have been fishing outside waters from Wattamolla to Kilcare for the last 45 years and was not bothered by jackets until late 2008. Early 2008 I could still bag out on large flathead but since then I have always lost rigs. I also have pulled up large flathead with only the head and and backbone remaining.
  20. The latest regulations prohibits a solo fisherman from having on his boat more than 4 rods/reels or handlines. How long ago was this regulation enacted? On any morning I might fish for live bait, squid, salmon ( light rod or fly rod), snapper, flathead, light game fish, medium game fish, and I never have more than 2 rods in use simultaneously. I have accumulated over 45 years of fishing (mainly offshore) many rods/reels and now I am forced to leave most of these ( bought at quite some expense) at home. Has anyone been fined for having more than 4 rods/hand lines in their possession?
  21. Green weed can also be found in freshwater streams well above tidal influence. Is this attractive to Blackfish or must the stream be salty?
  22. Sorry Mackerel, I fouled up!! Did you fish the Newport Ferry wharf at the end of Queen's Parade? I thought fishing at ferry wharves is prohibited.
  23. Thanks, Mackerel. A choice between Berowra and Parsley Bay seems the way to go.
  24. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT WORK IS BEING DONE NEAR THE BOAT RAMP? HALF THE TRAILER PARKING AREA APPEARS TO BE FENCED OFF AND CONTAINS CONSTRUCTION SHEDS. ARE THERE ANY PLANS TO FILL ALL THE DANGEROUS POTHOLES?
