  1. went out early around the heads. not much happening. couple of hits on cali squid on the downrigger, but did not hook up. nothing around Clifton gardens, but the birds were working there. would not take metal slices or rapalas bit windy and the water is still a bit cold - 18.5 deg today hoping for better results in a couple of weeks
  2. got some today. will try thu/fri
  3. hi raiders. trying to get some frozen cali squid, preferably on northern beaches area. any idea who stocks it ? cheers
  4. problem solved. 30 yr old son (who is a plumber) and much stronger than me, called around. no heat needed. just a big hit with his big persuader (on a block of wood) cracked the seal with 1 hit each side. bearings now done. cheers
  5. done the bearings several times before. due to the shape of the alloys, i cant get the bbuddies out as they are nearly flush with the outside of the rimthe
  6. thanks. i hv bearing buddies fitted so i cant get the pin out of the castellated nut. i suppose i coule cit the pin ?? cheers
  7. Gday. I hv a problem. Doing some trailer maintenance before going away in Jan. I have alloy rims on steel hubs. I am replacing the bearings. I cant get the rims to separate from the hubs - they are frozen on. The nuts came off fine. No amount of gentle persuasion will budge them. I dont want to really get the big persuader out (sledge hammer) as that wud probably crack the rims. Any ideas ?? Cheers
  8. if u want to go outside, try trolling around boondelbah and little islands for salmon, bonnies and poss the odd king. if thats no good, a drift between pt stephens and those islands (either northbound or southbound depending on tide/wind/current) shud produce flatties, flounder and the odd shovelnose
  9. i have several rapala green mackrel and blue mackrel cd lures. they do a great job, but now several years old and suffering from salty toothy critters marks, and now the paint is pretty poor. trhey are not easy to get hold of, and also quite expensive to replace (if u can get them) i'd like to have a go at refurbishing them, and wonder what paint to use. was thinking of enamel paint used on model aircraft/trains etc. wud prime first after a light sanding, and then possibly finish with an enamel clearcoat over the colour any ideas ?? cheers lambo

    tinny repairs

i am in the process of repainting my tinny. during the strip process, i discovered there are some holes under the paint (old rivet holes etc) and wondering whats the best to repair them. i am thinking about silicone or aluminium epoxy putty, both of which i have. the holes are not have to be weight bearing or structural stuff. anyone had any experience with epoxy filler ? pleased to hear cheers
  11. hey raiders went to ki the week before last with my mate and his dog. we fished the north coast for 5 days, and got snapper and king george whiting every day. here is a sample of the kgw, which hope is ok for inclusion in cotm cheers lambo
  12. thanks mate, i'll give it a go cheers
  13. Gday raiders. The throttle control on my 40 hp Yammie is quite stiff, and needs replacing. From what I can see, there is a back plate with a couple of Phillips Head Screws holding the Plate (the lower one) to the main control throttle body. Has anyone done this replacement ? If so, are there any tricks ? I'd hate to take it off and have a million small parts spring out... Appreciate any help/advice Cheers
  14. good one mate. we went out on thursday and found heaps of salmon close off nth head and a couple of hundred metres north. we chucked heaps of various lures/slugs/flies at them but really only took very small blue/white flies. cheers
  15. my mate and i got the irrits with sydney weather so took a quick trip to kangaroo island. weather fine and hot. fished 5 days, early mornings and evenings and the attached is a reasonable sample of how we went most sessions. cant wait to get back

    PERMATRIM

gday. in one of my previous boats - a haines v19 c with 135 mariner 2 stroke (the best boat i ever had), i fitted a permatrim. results were great. faster onto the plane, planed easier at lower speed, and fuel consumption was a bit less. cheers
  17. Gday raiders. I have several Rapalas (and some others), including blue and green mackrel magnum cds, being used in salt water, some of which are getting on a bit. They still have great action but have missing paint from the where the trebles touch the lure body, and scratches from tooth marks. I want to do some touch up work on the lure bodies. What paint should I use ? I was thinking of enamel Model pain (like Humbrol). Anyone got any ideas or experience ? Cheers
  18. my mate and i and his dog trolled early yesterday with various rapalas and some small skirts. did a couple of laps at washaway to dobroyd, zilch. saw a school of what looked like tailor, but they were not interested in anything we cast at them. then did a couple of laps old mans hat to nth head - again zilch. so back to washaway and managed 1 sargeant baker. back by 11.00 bit of a woftam really, quite windy and heaps of boats at the ramp and inside nth head. no one seemed to be setting the world on fire. there were also idiots who had no idea of trolling etiquette and cutting across our stern a few times. bring on the end of holiday season so us poor old pensioners can have the place quiet again cheers
  19. Thanks a lot to Slinkymalinky for pointing me in the direction of Pure Fishing (Members of Fishraider) for some Abu Garcia Reel info on repairs. The Abu reels I have are excellent (I have several different models) and when u do regular maintenance, they last for many years. I do have to say the info and help I got from Pure Fishing was fantastic, and if anyone wants great reels with EXCELLENT SERVICE BACK UP AND INFO, you can do no better than the Pure Fishing/Abu combo. Please support them Cheers Lambo
  20. thanks mate and sri for delay-been away. its a 200040 cv xwt 66t l. any help wud be appreciated cheers
  21. gday i have a couple of abu 7000 reels about 6 years old, that have done a great job so far. i do regular maintenance on them and am quite careful about reassembly etc. i have a problem on one of the reels in that the level wind/line guide pawl sticks at one end when under load. no problems when no or very light load applied, but as soon as reasonable/heavy load applied (like when a good fish is on), the level wind stops at one end and the line is spooled at one end. the others work fine. any suggestions ?? cheers lambo
  22. thanks. hv done this but the rust is starting to come thru again. i think i waited too long to try to arrest the problem. cheers
