  1. Hey Mate, I'm 18 at the moment and it's only been this year that I've expanded onto the rocks more often chasing fish and there is multiple reasons for this: 1- At this age my parents are quite trust worthy in myself making the right decisions to fish depending the conditions, I'm a big fan of the rocks, its a game of too much too little in terms of fishing and this is exciting 2, I've got my P's and it opens up more options to fish a variety of locations 3, More mature I'd say, you settle down from the bullish 16year old self to taking more educated risks which is what rock fishing largely is and educated and informed risk which if you get right is a hell of a lot of fun! Cheers
  2. Hey All, Just wondering where it's easiest to source some livies (yellowtail) in pittwater land based? Thoughts anyone? Cheers
  3. Hey All, After seeing a few guys chasing some Luderick down on the Northern Beaches, I figured after acquiring some floats a few years back, giving it a crack and seeing how I go. Headed down this arvo and arrived at 6:30pm fishing a rising tide. In a session lasting from 6:30-8 managed 2 fish at 30 and 33cm respectively! Stoked to get some first try and hopefully it's not just beginners luck! As you can see from the photos I'm pretty stoked! Cheers
  4. In my use of the Saltist I haven't had a problem and it's been ramped up a bit but hey there is always some problems with tackle that some experience and others don't!
  5. Hey Mate, I use a relatively simple but strong setup Daiwa Saltist 30 Lever Drag 2 speed Daiwa Monster Mesh Jig Rod 3-6 Pe 50lb Braid I find it works really well, the reel is relatively narrow so I don't worry about line lay and it goes hard! Have used both overhead and spinning I prefer over head ! Cheers
  6. Hey fellas, anyone fished The ovens at south whale? I've fished the rocks of south whale, just not as far around as the outer ovens... having said that, I've checked out the entrance at Rayner road, however not too far down.. Cheers Steve
  7. Hey Everyone, Just stripped back my Spheros 14000 after a few seasons of use on the beach and break walls! Originally I had to spooled with 65lb braid to chase Breakwall Jew and Kings from the rocks, however I believe I could drop down the weight for added distance! Thoughts on what I should go to? Will probably use it more for beach jew rather than kings as I have an overhead setup for that! Its on an FSU5120, was thinking of somewhere between 30-50lb braid? Cheers
  8. Hey Guys, Headed over to the rocks at the south end of the beach this morning! Whilst I managed decent hooks ups I was unable to land anything due to getting smashed into the reef! However did manage some sort of rock/kelp fish that went back in! Now questions! I was fishing the rock platforms before the jump rock.. however it was quite unproductive with large reef/kelp posing a problem for snagging! Where's the best place to fish at the rocks here? I was thinking the more open platform at the tip of the headland? However it does look pretty hairy and I'm not sure to get down safely? Furthermore, where are other suitable rock fishing locations on the beaches in relatively safe conditions? Btw if anyones looking for a rock hopper to tag along with I'm free pretty much every weekend after this! Cheers
  9. Hey Gents, Wasn't to cold actually by the time I got there, no wind to speak of and an awesome morning Was using WA pillies on simple rigs, either cut or whole Slightly heavier- was running line rig with a bomb sinker attached to a separate piece of line above a swivel, then 30cm of trace to a set of 3/0 gangs Lighter- ball sinker, swivel, trace 30cm, to a 3/0 single hook Fishing
  10. Hey all, Due to being injured from rugby thought I might take time to head out for a fish this morning. Woke at the cool hour of 5am and headed down to the beach. Met a mate who was keen for a session down on the beaches and rigged up the rods. Funny story for the first catch- Due to my mate not being the most proficient fisherman I rigged the rods set the baits in a nice gutter with wash either side and said "look after things here, Ill go buy our parking tickets" so I've wandered back up paid the tickets and headed back down. Here's my mate going hammer and tong with a fish whilst I'm doing the dirty work. After a cruisy fight on light gear, a nice 2kg or so Aussie Salmon comes on to the shore… got the monkey off the back for the morning. At the change of tide, my rod went off and steadily reeled in a shark of some sorts onto the beach, got the hook out and sent him on his way. As the tide flowed out, my rod bent back over again and after another steady fight another nice Aussie Salmon of similar size came to shore. All in all the morning was a success and well worth the early start Cheers Steve
  11. Pretty simple question really… Can you fish from here (mainly to catch live baits) or is it banned? Cheers
  12. Hey there! It's been a very long time since my last post and even my last fish so it was great to be back catching a few fish! So my mates wanted to go fishing and I said I'd take them and try an catch some fish! Headed down to Roseville roughly 10am 26/12/13 and set up the old trusty rig of running ball sinker to swivel and then to a gang hook, baited up with whole pilchard. Throughout the day managed to land 10 or so juvenile Tailor, which on light gear were always a ball of fun! Having not fished in a while it was awesome to get back to it and land some fish! Cheers
  13. Thanks for a fantastic day Roberta!! Shame I couldn't convert hits into hookups but that's fishing. I'll be up again soon and we'll go out fishing again. Thanks again! Cheers
  14. Hey Mate I'm using one of the new daiwa Saltist Lever Drag in the two speed version, I am VERY pleased with it and highly recommend it.. Cheers
