Steve, The first hook was into the bill and the leader was also wraped around as well. Did some fancy dancing on the water!!!

The two fish we got on the Saturday.

We use a two hook rig due to a lot of missed hits just behind the hook on a single rig. First hook is inserted through the gill as previously stated but the second hook is secured to the side of the gar with a small rubber band. The wire pin is pushed up through the head and a wire spiral nose cone is screwed down the wire pin. Then a rubber skirt is slid down over the nose cone. This all holds the gar together really well and can swim for hours nice and straight. You can buy all of these parts separate or as a pre-rigged unit. Good Luck!

In addition to Steve’s info, D’Albora marina at Elizabeth Bay has agreed to sell fuel at a 30 cent/litre discount for all boats competing in the tournament. They will also man the fuel pumps until late particularly for trailer boats that will need to fill up Saturday evening for the Sunday fish. Weather looks promising with warm water coming down the coast. See you on the water! Actually it's Rushcutters Bay!

Thanks guys. Running sinker has been my prefered method. I'll shorten up the leader and adding the additional swivel sounds like a good idea. Cheers.

I'm having lots of trouble with tangles of leaders & traces while fishing for whiting, bream & flatheads of the beach. Tried a few but not 100% happy with any of them. Would appreciate any advise for rigs that work good in th surf.
