  1. Not surprised by the size with all the talk of radio active waste there at the moment, on;y surprise is that it didnt have 3 eyes
  2. Just wondering if anyone has any experience up at Magnetis Island, heading up in early June for a week with the family, would it be worth taking up a rod or two (are there are any decent land based spots) or would I be better off getting in touch with a charter for an outing?
  3. I used to throw all my salmon back as I had been told for years they are only good for fish cakes, I then fished with a guy who said they cook up ok if bleed straight away and eaten fresh, alot of people here might disagree with this, (there is also a good chance they like me had just been told they not worth eating and never tried them for themselves) but filleted, crumbed and shallow frying, mayby not the best tasting fish in the ocean but certainly tasty enough. Anyway next time you catch one try it for yourself, I rarely throw the first one back any more. Cheers
  4. Great photo, and it sure is fishy water, my older brother who used to live up there fished this spot alot and always caught fish, as well as some unstoppable runs, from your photo the most southern headland before it goes around into Fingal Island is the only one you can fish from as Geoff has pointed out they are marine park zones heading north towards Tomaree Head. You have to plan your walk in and out as you get cut off at high tide but a very worthwhile walk.
  5. Hi Geoff, the exclusion zone on the map you sent covers from Tomaree, Zenith Beach around that headland and onto Wreck Beach to it's Southern headland. I was fishing the southern Headland of Box Beach which is listed as Habitat Protection zone only, I know from many years ago Zenith Beach was a popular Grey Nurse breeding area so hence the marine protection zone, is still good to know that the 2 beaches to the north of Box are no go zones as far as fishing goes.
  6. Hi Geoff, I Had a look at the fishing exclusion zones the day before and there was nothing listed for the area I was fishing, it was a few beaches around from Zenith (Box Beach i think), there were guys trolling around 60-70m off the rocks. Regards
  7. Hi raiders, After dragging the boat up to Nelson Bay it was onlu used for dolphin watching and general cruising about, As the weather finally broke on Monday morn. I headed for a small headland just around from Tomaree, I hadnt fished here for about 15 years. I must have been alot fitter back then and I had forgotton the pleasures of rock fishing. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a foggy, still morning which made it hard to guage the wave height until they got real close anyway first pillie hit the water and within 5 seconds, bang this place hasnt changed, the tailor were thick, In no time I had enough for a feed and a few to be used as jewie bait back in the Hawkesbury, the best part of the morning was switching to a surface popper and seeing it get smashed, ended up with about 10 kept tailer around 20 thrown back and 2 bonito (also for the bait freezer). All up it was a great morning off the stones just wish I had time to hang around with a livie or big bait out as I had heard of big kingies and cobia being caught in the area. Will be a good excuse to head back up there soon. No pics but we all know what tailor look like, nothing over 1.5kg.
  8. Thanks for the heads up I was planning to get into one of the tackle stores up there as well, I will post a report should the fishing Gods be smiling down on me.
  9. Hi Raiders, I am heading up to Soldiers Beach near Nelsons Bay over the Easter Break and just wandering if anyone knows any good spots for either bream/whiting or snapper/jews fishing from a boat, I would be comfortable to go out through the heads for a couple of KM's but not really wanting to head too far out. I dont have a gps so any rough marks would be great.
  10. Hi Scienceman, I have been trying to figure the beach fishing out on the Central Coast for a few years, have fished good gutters on rising tides at dusk many times for nothing, very hit and miss,( I mainly target tailor and salmon with pillies) I went to Pearl beach last night with freshly caught squid and tailor fillets as I had heard of nice jewies being caught there in recent weeks, I had 1 big run then bait, hook, 50lb leader swivel and sinker all gone, hmmmm me thinks a noah, may think twice about swimming there again late afternoon, but as everyone will tell me that is jewie fishing and perservierance will pay off, if you or anyone else ever wants to meet up for a beach session let me know. I have mainly fished Terrigal, nth Avoca and Pearl with mixed results, got my first jewie off Terrigal last year fishing for tailor, go figure!!!!!!!!!
  11. Hi Bastik, A little bit of a walk but anywhere down near the marina, I was there for a year with work not long ago, never fished there myself but I used to see plenty fishing there and there was always the tell tale fish scales on the sidewalk, would probably be at least a half hour walk depending on where your hotel is, from what I heard they catch decent reddies in the harbour.
  12. Hi all, I am new to this site and just wondering if any one can give me the heads up on some fishing spots around Coffs, I have hast bought my first boat (5m Seafarer)and will be up there in about a month for a weeks holiday/fishing. Is it safe enough for someone with limited experience to fish the closer reefs? and if so I dont have a gps so will be using the sounder to find my spots. How far out from the marina would you need to travel/ and what should be biting at that time of year? Just trying to determin whether to tow the boat or just take the beach rods, or both! Any help would be great. Regards.
  13. Guys, does anyone drop pots in the Hawkesbury for mud crabs, I have cought a nice one that got caught in my fishing line but I just wanted to know if any one target them with pots??
