Thanks for the replies and advice guys. Reckon I will get the 54/54 today. Do I HAVE to get a sealed 100ah battery? They are very expensive ($370) Or would a cheaper car battery do o.k until I can get some more cash?

I am looking at buying a JM Watersnake SWDR 54lb/54 bow mount electric for my soon to be finished project boat. (Quintrex Fishrunner 4.4mtr) My boat is the old fishrunner 4.4 centre console and I have added casting decks and underfloor live wells etc etc etc. Been a great project and the boat fishes well, but now need an electric for it. I can't afford the minn kotas, so was wondering are the watersnakes a good starter motor for a beginner to electrics? and will the 54lb/54" shaft be a good compatibility with my boat? cheers

Hey Guys, Been awhile since I have been around. Family has taken me away from fishing etc, but now I am back, and I am going to modify my boat. (Quintrex Fishrunner 4.5mtr Centre Console - the old tinny kind) I was hoping to get some advice from you seasoned boat owners/modifiers. I have so far ripped all the carpet, flooring and old timbers out of the hull. I am now planning on raising the floor in the bow and the stern, leaving a low deck just behind the centre console and just in front of the captains chair. This will allow for underfloor storage, underfloor fuel tanks, under floor batteries, underfloor eskie and live bait tank. Plus I want to add expanding foam in plastic bags here and there for flotation and also to create the underfloor esky (self built). Ok questions are: Will raising the floor effect the boats stability etc? Will the expanding foam (hardware store kind) be ok for this use? Will treated pine be ok for the sub frame? Will C,D Ply 12mm painted with marine paint be ok for the floor? Should I get ribbed marine carpet or the flat stuff? (is this just aesthetics?) I am moving the single fuel tank, to the centre of the boat, and adding another side by side, will this effect stability? How do you waterproof the lids of floor hatches? and should I put bunged holes in the bottom of these hatches in case water gets in? I know its a lot of questions, but I wanna do it right first time. I will add more pictures tomorrow, but this gives you an idea of the boat I am talking about, just not the floor layout. Thanks in advance. Coasty.

Sometimes if the water is exhausted thru the prop it may move a little. And some drives just spin a little bit. Also take the cover off, and run the motor in neutral. If the actual drive cog spins, then your motor may have an issue. If not, switch the motor off, and spin the prop by hand (MAKE SURE MOTOR IS OFF, AND IGNITION IS OFF) if cogs turn, then drive is stuck in gear, if not then its prob just the exhaust turning it or something like that, no probs.

This is just Voice over IP. Most broadband providers offer this service on your bb plan for a small extra fee. I haven't compared pricing on this, but VoIP has its drawbacks such as latency loss. I think VoIP will be great in a year or so, once the telco's have refined the system.

I have the Penn 330LD and my bro has the 320GT both are excellent reels, my 330LD pulled up a 5ft shark off palm beach on the weekend, no problems. My bros 320 has handled a heap of bottom bashing and never missed a beat.

After finally getting my new boat (Quintrex Fishrunner 4.4), I have been making some modifications to it. The current bimini is a 3 bow one, but its seen better days, so i want to get a new one. I am tossing up on a new T-Top one that connects to the centre console from bias. Does anyone have any good bad points about these biminis? Can you lower them enough for travel etc, or do they need to be dismantled. Your guidance is appreciated.

I can vouch for this tinny. Been out with Ty before and it goes great. I would say around $2500-3000 with trailer more mate. Saw you out there on Sunday Ty, but you were screaming past and didn't here me at lintern channel. I was in my new (second hand) quintrex centre console

The and kids and I are heading up to Caboolture/Bribie Island for a week as of next monday, then we are going to Tulebudgera (near berleigh heads) for 2 weeks. So I thought I better get some advice on the local fishing in these areas. I won't be taking the new boat but will be hopefully hiring a tinny or similar to fish pumice stone passage. Anyone got any tips, locations for land and water based fishing and some good boat hire joints in Bribie and tulle? All advice much appreciated.

Hi fellow raiders, Well after ages of pleading, the has given the nod on me getting a boat. My budget is $5500 and I have done a heap of searching, and ebay looking etc at current prices. From what I can figure my budget doesn't buy alot of boat, unless I get something very old, or damaged I need you opinion on the boat below I am looking at, it is a mates old boat. This mate is fastidious with all his stuff, and so the boat is clean and tidy and the motor kicked over first key turn when I looked at it. Specs are not totally known by me, but heres what I do know. Quintrex Hull just over 4.3 metres. (not sure what model) Johnson 40hp late 80's model, has electric start/tilt/trim and oil injection (but has been removed on advice from mechanic, saying that self mixing 2 stroke is better for the motor) Centre console has working nav lights, sounder/fishfinder and marine radio. New paint in and out. Live bait tank, motion plumbed (will prob add an electric pump if I buy) Just refurbished roller trailer, with new bearings, axle, hubs and arches. New paint/lights etc. Full deck front to back with carpet. Bimini (is starting to thin, may need new cloth) all safety gear, deep cycle battery, plus boat cover and kids tow tube. Bilge pump is not working, but this may only be an electrical problem at the switch. Boat and Trailer, all just recently rego'ed Ok so my mate is asking $6,000 but will sell to me for $5,200, is price ok? Cheers, Coasty

Saturday my mate and I decided that Sunday would a the day to borrow my bro's boat and hit the brissy waters for a morning session. Picked up the boat late Sat arvo, and filled the tanks up. Took it home to my house and gave it a good clean (My brother has to learn to clean and put boat cover on). Gave to motors a turn to check battery levels, and one was dead, so plugged in the charger and left her overnight. Get up at sparrows fart, and check the battteries... DEAD the wiring for the batteries must have been cut or something, cause they didn't charge . BUT I had a battery, so we could still go out with one motor instead of 2, ok so before I hit the water I want to run the motor to be sure the new battery is going to kick all day, when I find that I can't get fuel to pump to the motors... by this time steam is coming from my ears, and the sun is already up. After a bit of investigation, I figure the fuel lines must be blocked somewhere, so i am not wasting my day pulling out and cleaning fuel lines. So I drop the boat back to my bros house. NOT A GOOD START TO THE DAY!!!! So anyway my mate and I decided a jetty session is in order then, so my young bloke my mate and I head off to a good jetty near half tide rocks for a while. So after a bad start we managed about 15 or more tailor, 1 longtom, and a heap of squire and baby bream, all released. The highlight of my day was that my kid and mate where using bait and I was dedicated to SP's and I caught the majority of fish, and the most fish for me ever on SP's as well.. plus a PB on the longtom. Sorry no photos, it also had a flat battery
