  1. Mate its not that hard of a job, acces to lifting equipment is biggest thing, block and tackle or engine crane which can be hired from Kennards or the like is cheap, just make sure you use sika flex or other good sealant on bolts and in bolt holes when refitting them, use big plate washers so bolts cant pull through transom, then just matter of running the cables to control box.
  2. Do a dry test first, then put couple of drops engine oil in cylinders, then retest, compression should be higher on wet test, if 2 strokes have low comp when cold, then it will be very hard to start as wont be able to scavenge the fuel. try a squirt of aerostart if low comp. will help to fire.
  3. Update on previous posts, News headlines have just confirmed, second man died in the second serious accident of weekend! terrible news, condolences to the families involved.
  4. Was water coming out of tell tale hole? did engine get over heated? sounds like fuel issue, check fuel filter, make sure fuel tank is breathing, was primer bulb still hard when it played up? shouldnt suck itself in. make sure its actually getting full throttle on motor.
  5. Thank you very much for all replies, much appreciated, I can stop pulling my hair out! lol.
  6. At present tacho on about 1200 -1500 rpm,
  7. What should a 140hp 1987 evinrude idle at running on the muffs? thanks,Mathew.
  8. Hi, Searching for a workshop manual for my 1987 evinrude 140, come across two different brands of manual,Clymer and other one is Seloc, which one is better? or even if anyone has an old one laying around not needed, feel free to pm me! thanks,Mathew
  9. Nothing hard about it all,. just because someone calls themselves a pro at installing stuff means nothing, just follow the directions that come with most equipment and you should be sweet, also try use solder on all joints instead of just crimping, also get some heat shrink over all joins, just look where wires are running and make sure that they cant rub or get cut on sharp edges of boat.
  10. Hi, I have a evenrude 140, approx 86-88 model, I need to fix the wiring to trim gauge as last owner cut alot of wiring when taking their radios and stuff out, can some one help out with the colours of wires to which post on gauge? also any one know where I can get either new or second hand reelax rx 12 seat mount? am in process of fixing seats and one base is missing. thanks,Mathew.
  11. Maybe rust around rim edge, take to a tyre fiter and have checked, if rim all rusty, sometimes can be cleaned up around bead or have a tube fitted.
  12. Does the filter head have a bleed screw on top? if so, you will need to undo it a couple of turns then squeeze the primer bulb to force the air out, otherwise the fuel has no where to go as to fill with fuel, you must let air out to make room for the fuel to fit!
  13. Tin of similar grey paint, flicked on with a brush? or is proper fleck paint? if its fleck paint, than go to a panel shop or paint supplier.
  14. Hi, maybe crap in carby blocking the jets, did you make fuel mix right? 50:1, if to rich will smoke bad. maybe fuel and oil seperated and turned to jelly in carby? doesnt sound major problem.
  15. If its only 1-2mm in size, maybe just bit of filler or epoxy resin will do the job, lot neater and easier
