I feel very sorry for this young blokes family and friends. I have witnessed many near accidents and 1 accident from idiots that have no idea what they are doing. The law needs to be changed so that you can not rent one of these boats unless you have a boat licence. Partying on these boats is great but there is always a danger of something going wrong when alcohol and water mix.

We were fishing about 1 meter of water with a slit shot about 6inches above the blade.

We used blades set in the first hole.

Mate the top bait for jews around that area are salt water herring that you can catch in the same areas.

If your talking about Juno Pt then it is the second last point before Patonga. If your talking about the water rise of 2 meters its Lower Portland.

No all taken on lures.

We had the day off so decided to try our luck around the mouth of the Hawkesbury. After 1odd hour without a nudge we decided to try a spot we know for flounder. No Flounder but 14 good size Whiting. We noticed bird activity so we moved over to find a large school of salmon. We threw everything at them for 2 only. Sick of fish ignoring us we tried closer to the ramp for 1 keeper lizard, 1 x 52cm soapie. All in all not to bad, whiting fillets for dinner tonight.

Juno has nothing on the upper Hawkesbury. If you pull your anchor before starting your motor you could be 100meters or more where you do not want to be. The water can rise 2 meters where I live and the run out tide sometimes resembles rapids.

Do I swim with a life jacket on? In an area at night that has massive currents and alcohol is involved, you would be an idiot if you didn't. Living on the river for the last 40 odd years I have read about numerous drowning's. Majority of which have been people that have come to use the river without knowing the potential dangers of a fast flowing river with many underwater logs etc. Dad's Cnr is between Webbs Creek and Lower Portland. Has a big eddy that swirls enough to pull someone under without a life jacket on. (at Times) It tends to collect a lot of rubbish before it shoots it back out into the current.

Took the grand kids for a fish yesterday (Sat 12th) we were stopped at Dads cnr by a police officer on a wave runner and told they were searching for a body. I could see a houseboat with the state emergency service boat tied to it. There was a Christmas party on Friday night on board the houseboat and a 18 year old decided to go for a swim. He was seen in trouble but they lost sight of him. They recovered the body around lunch time. If only he had a life jacket on!

The carp must be pretty good as the 2 sows had 17 piglets between them on their first go. We will see what the suckers taste like on the spit at Christmas. Regards Jeff

Fished Long Reef on Saturday for 2 butchers hooks. Tried Mugs for zero. The pro boats on Mugs didn't seem to be doing any good either. Regards Jeff

We fishes there a couple of weeks ago. The sounder showed kings but they were not on the bite. We headed out to 12mile reef and ended up with 5 good kings, 1 around the 12kg mark, it was pumping everywhere so put him back to chase some females. We will be heading out again tomorrow,weather forcast is not great but that can change,I hope. Regards Jeff

Nice one Pete. We have been catching a lot of under size one around the area over the last couple of weeks. Lost a bit of gear to sharks not far from wiso as well. The big bream shouldn't be far away for those who know where and how to catch them. Regards Jeff

Cooper tyres are good but the warranty is crap. Unless you take your vehicle back and have a wheel alignment every so many k's there is no warranty. Jeff

I used the ramp a month ago and found that its an absolute bitch to get your boat out by yourself when the wind is blowing and the tide is running in the same direction. The mud is like quick sand. I swore that I would never use the ramp again. Watch the local cop as he books car and trailers parked on the grass near the entrance no if's or but's. As has been said use one of the ski parks but don't leave anything in plain view in your car if you really want it to be there when you get back. Spencer is a smaller but easier ramp to use with a large private ramp on the point you can pay to use and easily managed one out. Jeff

I have found a use for carp. I have recently started to breed my own pigs and they absolutely love to eat carp (and any other fish that I throw in) I'll wait and see if they have a fishy flavour in about 6 months when the first one goes on the spit. Jeff

I use a hoop net. Let it sit on the bottom, get the mullet feeding over it and lift it. Usually 20 or so in a matter of minutes. Regards Jeff

I have always found the area your talking about fish well after a lot of rain We find the same as you did that its a real mixture of species and as long as the burly trail is kept up the schools come for a feed as their searching for what is been washed in by the rain. Jeff
