  1. I have a question maybe someone in this chat can answer. We headed out to heaton's for the first time on my mate's boat which has an airmar 1kw transom mounted transducer on a HDS7 and it seems to lose the depth reading around 1500mtrs down. Is that normal?? Whats the capability of these transducer?? TIA
  2. i was out there friday tryin to chase some SBT. We travelled to heatons for the first time but not a single reel turned over all day. So depressing with the effort we put in.
  3. fishmaniac, thanks for your input mate, really apperciated it! I have pretty much the same reels as you and its good to know that you have done what i want to do in the future. I have a nice jig rod that is very bendy but i dont think it will have enough black bone for a marlin. My other rod is a nitro widow maker, tank of a rod which isnt so bendy and probably not that suitable for pe 3 line but probably can pull a rhino out of the water if id use decent line
  4. fishmaniac, I have a 4500 that i normally battle kings with and havent yet be troubled by one big enough even when in NZ. So probably jus using the 6500 for capacity for those big runs im dreaming of. What type of drag pressure roughly were you using for the black?
  5. hey lads, Im stuck at this position where i have 2 line options for my 6500 saltiga. Would you use 80lb 300mtrs or 47lb 600 mtrs. Im aiming for marlin or the odd tuna that comes by our waters. I was hoping to use P.e 4 but the shop was out of stock so p.e3 was the only thing available! Ur thoughts please? LH
  6. i have no experience in the trade but i have done a abit of paint work on my boat which has turned out not so great but ive read online that after your primer and top coat you should apply a clear coat to finish.?? What do you reckon pachma rods?
  7. I brought my personal gear over. catalina 4500 with a power spell 250g. saltiga DF with gamakatsu 300g jig rod and a mate brought his saltish o/h with powerspell 300. Pulled up all the fish pretty easy. But i had to send 2 reels to get warranty service after getting punished with 2 days fishing over there. The gears were grinding Jigging with the 4500 is the best. Light and has enough balls to get the job done. btw im the guy in the gamakastu shirt
  8. Go with the magnum but mate. Ive got a viper and using a 5000 sustain runing 30lb braid and in which i feel the reel is a tad small for the rod. The magnum butt is more of a allrounder. The viper is more for those bigger inshore goodies out there.
  9. LoL master tan never smiles.
  10. thats awesome! I'd watch a doco on these creatures and there named killers whales for a reason. They were hunting baby whales and eating them. Since we have a few babies whales along our coast line atm, maybe that has attracted them here.
  11. solid fish! But i think the record in nz is 55kg ish....
  12. I regret not coming but at the end of the day i still got a feed lol
  13. Has anyone experiment with the japan brands like yozuri or xzoga. They have decent specs like the the brands listed above.
  14. Hey lads, I'd just brought a pair of tiagra 30w with matching rods. Tho i dont know much about mono's as this will be my first game setup. Its main chor will be trolling and the odd cubing session.. So im thinking Hi-vis colour?? 15 or 24kg, Im leaning towards 15kg jus to be sporty and more fun. The store where i brought the reels from reckons maxima mono is that go....?? What other brands should i be looking at? Thanks for your input.
  15. robofish, Did you bring your own gear tackle or did you used there? Im thinkin of lugging my rods with me while im in nz because the prices they charge for broken or lost gear is insane.
  16. Those pics are makin me drool! Im booked in with toby in mid august cant wait to have a smile on my face jus like yours.
  17. Thats pretty interesting. I have found that there FC is heaps shift compare to others out there. But hasnt affected or improve my catch rates. Still im a fan of BM gear tho.
  18. hey lads, I thought i have a brag. Havent been fishing for awhile now due to work and study so the next best thing is to buy fishing tackle For that one day i catch a big tuna. Love this light tackle harness adaptor. Tested on my coffee table eg big tuna. It feel bloody awesome.
  19. fisho, my wallet hates you for saying that but you are right. I guess i have to return these and get me some better hooks. cheers.
  20. i should add im using these hooks size 10/0 to troll my skirts around!
  21. hey Fr's, Im jus wondering if mustad tarpon 7766D would be strong enough chasing marlin and tuna. Ive brought a box today for $30 which seems cheap compare to other game hooks that cost $12 plus for a single hook! Any thoughts? cheers.
  22. They were 2/0 or 3/0 decoy jigging hooks. These hooks have the straight eye so you only need 1 spilt ring. They cost like 13bucks for a pack of 4! Good quality but costly.
  23. Blue mack colour has been one of the most productive lures ive got! They are awesome If fish are there you know about it. I kid you not that ive caught a bonito and a king one this one lure at one go. Ive converted the lure to 2 single hooks cause of the trebles destory the paint work.
  24. Is your catalina a High speed model? Im asking cause i have a dogfight which are high speed and not sure if it is suitable for a marlin fishing. Cause im worried they havent got the pulling power u need like the low speed has.
