  1. hey Flute, did Pittwater yesterday, saw a solitary squid chasing our sp but nothing in the way of slimies or yakkas, used mulched up pillies and mince... nothing. Have found that the closer we got to the western shoreline and i mean we were very close, the bigger the fish were, maybe the rollers coming in stirred the shallows coz we scored some really nice bream probably in no less that 2 meters of water good luck Bill
  2. Thanks Kiwi, it seemed the closer we got to the shore, the bigger the fish got, weird huh !
  3. Hi all, Launched off Bayview park in Pitwater at around 6 am Thursday with my two boys and another boat with 4 on board and had perfect glassy conditions as we headed out towards the Macrel beach area.. As the wind got up, it made for choppy conditions about an hour later, drifting from just inside the red marker at i think was Sand point using prawns, we got hit after hit from small pinkies, small whiting and a puffer and my eldest managed a small pinkie on an SP, all throwbacks untill we neared the shore line near the wharf at Coasters Retreat whe we scored a 47 cm Flattie, things were looking up in the afternoon as we did a drift inside the Macrel beach area where we scored 3 x 28cm 2 x 29 cm thumper bream, havnt seen them that size since i was a kid 1 x 30cm whiting the other boat landing 2 x 45 cm plus flatties and 6 thumper bream between the 4 of them needless to say out of the 30 or so fish we caught all day once again i was outfished by the younguns as i only caught 2 throwbacks all day, Maybe it had something to do with the fact my mate in the other boat decided to empty his stomach contents all day and was leaving quite a burley trail !! all in all a good day, will try and post some pics if my son can find his camera cable but its a feed and a half for us tonite Dont know if it was me or not, but couldnt find anything in the way of baitfish schools around, maybe it was the wind ! Special thanks to Roosterman for all your help your advice certainly gave us a big heads up and looks like thats another i owe you cheers guys Bill
  4. Hi Steve, thanks muchly for that info. is the $14 fee a council charge or a national parks charge ? i have a NPWS sticker if thats the case. I was rather taken aback when i was above the basin with the fires last october and just couldnt believe the view of macrel beach from above, thought it would be a rather productive flattie spot. do you happen to know what the rough depth is around the areas you stated and are we looking at a rough bottom ? thanks once again for your time. will definatly post how we go cheers bill
  5. Hi all, I am looking at trying pittwater for the first time on thursday and was wondering how good the ramps are at bayview park off pittwater road. i have a 4 mt quinnie and my mate has a 15 ft centre console, will this ramp be easily accessible at low tide ? seemed alright on google earth. also, thinking of doing a drift between soldiers point and longnose point, sorry if this is sacred grounds for some but what rough distance off the shore would be required for maybe a few flatties and is this a good area for a suprise kingy ? and is it a decent area to catch a couple of yakkas and/ or squid ? im a novice at live baiting and would be happy with trying one squid and then a yakka any advise would be greatly appreciated cheers Bill
  6. Hi tryhard, i was in a similar situation not long ago. i have a 4 mt quintrex which had a 1979 model 25 hp johnson, ample for the boat. i was looking at upgrading to a 40 hp as the kids are a bit bigger and a bit of extra push was needed ( nothing wrong with the johno at all ). max rated hp is 40. knowing that the new motors are prop rated and my old was flywheel rated i opted for a 30 hp. to be on the safe side. my question to you is, do you disconnect your battery(s) when being idle at home ? i disconnect mine at the end of every flush, i havnt needed to charge it for at least 4 years and i give it a turn over at least every two months secondly how long do you keep your fuel in between uses as stale fuel will give you starting problems, fouls plugs and hence drains your battery. Im not sure how you could go about this, but maybe you might have to strengthen the transom in order to upgrade but id say if the motor you have now is serving you well otherwise, id stick with it, disconnect the battery when not in use and toss old fuel.. hope this has helped in some way cheers Bill
  7. Thanks Pete, of all the pages i didnt look at was that one, isnt it always the way ??? thanks once again nachos grassyass Bill
  8. hi all, just a quickie silly question, its is my beliefe that you have to be over 18 to obtain a rec fishing licence in N.S.W, and under 18's do not require one, is this true ? i cannot find anything on the DPI site that states age. I know i could just call up but im addicted to this site and dont want to get up ! thanks for your replies which im sure will all be the same cheers Bill
  9. well what can i say ? im almost embarrassed to be putting ths into writing but anyways, here goes. hit the water at yowie bay about 11 am this morning and headed down towards lilly pilly, drifting the flats for firstly a puffer fish, then a numb fish, im regreting telling my son about it coz he just didnt want to touch it, finally a 26 cm flounder, which i felt sorry for so went back in, and trying to get out of the wind all day was horrible . pumped some nippers opposite dolans bay for a solitary small pinky.. finally the action hotted up with a stick, shortly followed by a tin.. i dont know what the edibility of either would have been but if anyone could possibly tell me how to cook wood and rust, would be greatly appreciated. this would have to be only the second time in my life that ive left the hacking without a feed... we used fresh prawns, squid, pillies, nippers and whitebait. we did see what i presume was a school of tailor feeding rather feverishly on the surface untill some numbskull decided to drive straighthough them then they were gorrrrn the dismal end cheers one hungry seagull and 3 squids !
  10. hey stuck, welcome aboard, i shoulda known my son was tellin me another fishy story, my guess is he found the head to a hammer that some disgruntled feller threw off his boat after hitting his thumb... sounds like something i would do ! anyways all being equal im so hoping for boxing day for some flatties on the hacking, then workin on the lake and or the chanel, have a great chrissy bloke cheers Bill
  11. thanks bazle, im hoping to take the squiddies out on prot hacking boxing day. ive just text my son whos up on lake macquarie at the moment and reports are they have caught/sighted hammerheads in there, very interesting indeed !! i wonder if the kings are hanging around the bridge at all !
  12. looks like a dart to me dont know bout the edibilty but i guess u gotta try it to know. i suggest oil parcley and garlic with a nice cold
  13. great pic bloke, any chance you could fill me in on how you rigged the yakka ? eg through the mouth or behind the dorsal fin ? any info on your rigs greatly apreciated cheers Bill

  15. G'day fellow anglers n danglers, as a new member id like to say that i have read many a story and report (4 hours worth ) that you have submitted, so felt compelled to join and add my two bobs worth and more importantly learn from you all. Having been born and bred in Bexley i had many a days fishing as a kid on the Georges river, como bridge, Dolls point baths and my fav spot Port Hacking. Flatties are always my target and anything else caught is a bonus. Now living in the Penrith area and being a volunteer firey, i dont get the chance to fish like i used to in the warmer months. i have in my possession a 4 mt quinnie with a new 30 yam which ive taken to lake macquarie, Bellambi and the Port and with fellow firies to Greenwell point. I have two boys also who are fishing mad and my partner has a son who doesnt mind outfishing me on his first outing, but thats fishing. I look forward to corresponding with you all and i hope i can offer some advice and learn much more from you all cheers Bill
