  1. Well done lovely fish! It was a tough day to fish and any fish caught was well earned but a 160kg Blue is a tough fish even in calm sea's so an even better achievment on a rough day like Sunday.
  2. Thanks mate the boats a 38ft mariner.Nice heavy old boat with a couple of v8 diesels that seem to raise the fish well.
  3. first marlin of the season for indian summer! yesterday on newcastle canyons we released a est 80kg stripey on 24kg standup fish took a black purple lure on the long rigger in 80 fth's. Shit conditions all day long but the fish are out and about . ps saw a couple of 6m trailer boats out wide , it was blowin 25knots nor east and the sea was a sort sharp 2 to 3m , must have been bloody uncomfortable day for them!
  4. your right . it's an expnsive sport , a grand roughly for a decent outfit 60 to 120 bucks for your average lure + line + leader + hooks +swivel etc etc not to mention the price of diesel (god help us) but were do you draw the line? i guess it's a small expense and if it gives you a little extra peace of mind it's probably worth the xtra 50c. Though i tend to think if you have been pulling a lure long enough to chafe through the leader without getting a fish on it you'd be better to spend the money one a new lure! cheers Dave
  5. i just thought i would ask the question "how many times have you guy's run your lures with no chafe protection ? did you experience any chafe in the leader loops when you did?" personally i have pulled lures for the last ten years or so and am yet to see any chafe on hook or swivel end loops. i have experienced some lures that will chafe the leader were it enters the head (mainly on jetheads or big plunger/kona heads ) i tend to think that anti-chafe gear was invented by tackle shop owners and us fisherman have mostly just used it out of habit.?
  6. G'day I am a new member of the forum and wanted to say what a great read some of these posts are I was also interested to read about the rig discussed in previous post's , ie a livie with a large snappa lead on the leader? can anyone post pic's of their setup or details etc in regards to which end of the leader the lead is attached to and how you lower it without line twist/tangles resulting? sounds like a great technique but has only resulted in tangles for us and as a result i have stuck to downrigger which has always worked in the past
