Plueger supreme ST. Far better reel that the D or S reels & very underrated. I've had them for years & they outlast any of the others. Come standard with carbon drags, & they are as smooth as butter.

2nd pic is a shovelnose shark. Beautiful critters. Glad you released what you caught.

Too true mate. It's a horrible thing that can happen to anyone. Sorry to hear about your mates as well, & glad to hear you made it through. I fished Whale, Bluefish & Yellow Rock when I was younger & I'm not sure if it was luck, good management, or both, that didn't see me go in at some stage!

Please be very careful fishing the Ovens or Sth Whale. It's claimed many lives over the years. I lost a mate there myself years ago.

It's a small boat to take out that far. The conditions would have to be perfect for a boat that size. You can't go out that far without a radio. You will also need an epirb.

Spot on with the jews Jon. The longer you let them run the more you miss. It took me a while a long time ago to work that out, as it was the norm back then.

We used to call them red mullet when I was growing up.

It's their diet. They are generally a scrap & detrious eating fish, so it would be their diet that causes that. They are also an oily fish, so even if the smell is bad they taste ok on the bbq. but I don't eat them. If you don't pierce the gut cavity then the fish won't smell as bad.

That is a ripper wild fish Jon. Good on her! It took me many years & many hundreds of bass to crack the 50cm mark.

Nice fish mate. Looks like that lure works a treat! That looks like it will be a cracking winter spot. As the weather & water cools the big lizards get into the shallows during the day to get warm. It's exciting fishing. Well done.

Yep, that's how I tie them & they are very fast, easy & strong. I tie my double hook rig for big dead baits this way & it works.

Hey mate. That's pretty common for this time of year. Warm currents are still pushing down from the north. We get queenies & AJ's at the Tweed mouth. I've even caught small queenies up the Tweed in M'bah. I'm a bit too old to make the hike down the lighthouse these days, but with this fresh pushing out of the rivers & the right amount of swell running I'm seriously thinking of having a spin for a jew off the north Brunz wall or down south Ballina wall. I know that this is usually a great time of year to get schoolies off north Brunz.

Great idea mate & well done for thinking outside the box. I find that the FG never fails & the leader just gets shorter over time. So what I do is cut the old knot just down on the leader & hold the old knot in my teeth to tie a new one. It's really helpful in light line.

When I was younger we used to crab around Iron Cove, Birkenhead Point, Drummoyne sailing club & Balmain baths. Plenty of blue swimmers around there. We would handline use the legs of old pantyhose & fresh mullet heads or frames. Tie the line to the top of the pantyhose & chuck it out. The blueys would get caught in the mesh & were easy to net. They did tear up a fair bit & we went through a few pairs, but it worked well.

I clean mine out after they're cooked, Probably why you see crabs cooked & whole? When I cook them whole I simply boil them in a pot of salty water. 8 mins for Blueys & 11 mins for muddies. Depending on size of course. Sorry, can't help you if halved already. Maybe simmered in a nice sauce for 15 mins??

Great to hear the new reel is a good one. Not sure how much line the salt takes, but it's a fair whack. I put about 20mtrs of backing on it & still fit 300m of 40lb braid on top. I'm surprised by how good a reel it is for the price.
