  1. Shame about the fish and the blade!!! There is always next time =D remember to bring the net next time, must have to be pretty long! Or next time, you could 'wrestle with the croc', if you're willing to get wet might get you a feed and your $15 blade back. Cheers, Justin
  2. id say it was a pretty slow day...just enough for breaky lunch and dinner today Justin
  3. Funnily enough, the fish in the middle of the last picture looks like a blackfish...which probably would be pretty common where you would be fishing too...or maybe just a discoloured pig =]. Nice bag though, pigs are tasty Justin
  4. Well, you have a choice of Mono/fluoro.... 'High quality' leader material costs ALOT (usually fluorocarbon)! Compared to just mono and fluorocarbon. For example: Blackmagic.. 55 or so metres-----> is about the same price as about 1000m of the equivalent mono/fluro What are your choices for soft plastic fishing and do you think it makes a difference to your fishing? Justin
  5. Hi, i have a 7' graphite daiwa tierra rod 2-4kg bought from our sponsors =] just wanted to get it matched up with a decent reel after a few successful sessions with plastics. Iv actually had a feel of the regal, tierra, sol reels and they all feel pretty decent. I was just leaning towards just getting a perfect coloured match...and 2000 tierra reel??? It is going to be spooled with PE 8lb flicking plastics for flatties/bream in salt water. Thanks! Any advice will be appreciated. Justin
  6. Wirrah cod are apparently targeted by many asian people. Because the 'old boot'...has very different flesh you need to prepare it a different way to make it edible. And yes they are nice =]. Like all fish, if you treat it the right way and prepare it the right way they can be palatable. Just like aussie salmon. Justin
  7. Yeh, i dont think i would consume them..theyre just an 'after a busy day' relaxation proposition with nice sunsets right now. Justin
  8. Iv been fishing off close to my house, (meadow bank area)...flicking plastics...well truthfully only 1 sort of plastic the old faithful squigie =D. 80mm. 2 days ago, i caught my first flattie that went 36cm!!! Yesterday, i caught my first bream that went 32cm!!! Twitch twtich....wait....lift.......wait...tap tap tap!!! In that session i had a monster of a hookup which felt like a bream and with more weight than the first, except the hooks pulled before i got to see it. You know how that was hooked, i was reeling it in at a slow pace and felt the smallest of taps. Then i let the plastic drop to the bottom, with one final twtich it got smashed! Well..i have to say using plastics are quite fun =]..gets my adrenaline working and its as if im hunting the fish . After a few snaps the fish were released. Justin
  9. Ahahah, you know what my parents did... They gave me the old freezer and bought a new one for themselves...now i have a 6 foot freezer with 5 layers to store my bait...fish...ice... =D Unlimited freezer space! Justin

    Poddies

Just a few more questions on poddies... When you rig them up through the nose would you put a stinger around the tail of the fish? If the tailor are around i always end up with half poddies ........ Lastly, just to clarify... Poddies are regarded as 15cm or less and you can keep 20 of them for live bait Bullys are those that are 30 or more and you can keep 20 of them Which means you cant keep those that are >15cm and <30cm??? Justin

    Keeping Warm

Just wondering, has anyone ever thought about wearing a wetsuit to keep warm while they fish off the rocks or while you're wading? Also does anyone paranoid while wading...incase you slip and fall and somehow water fills in? Its the thing that brings shivers down my spine while im wading...or...in bed thinking about it. Lastly can people pm me some good brands of wetsuits theyve been using and possible locations to buy? Would they be the same as the ones you use for diving? Thanks in Advance Justin
  12. Hey Roberta! Go the Mac! On my mac im using Digital Photo Professional, it does its job great! Cant expect anything better. I photo does something similar. I usually just transfer all my pictures into that program and it archives them all (pics and movies) according to date in folders. Usually i sift through it and delete photos. Pick out the good ones delete the bad ones and i keep a copy on my laptop and one on an external hard disk like pel said. Also i Keep the exceptional ones in a special folder =D. Maybe a new Mac book should be on the shopping list...and....1 TB external hardrive...and..additional fishing lures...tackle... =]. Oh and did i mention...a DSLR =D Justin
  13. I have a marine tank at home and have read quite a bit about keeping generally cuttlefish and occys. Not sure how squid would fare. So...you could always set up a marine tank =] which is quite alot of work/maintainence and may cost a bit. You'll need good circulation like all marine tanks have, and adequate filtration system. Compared to fresh water tanks, salt water tanks (especially ones with coral and susceptible animals like cephlaplods)...waste products in the water need to be maintained in low concentrations and removed these include include nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, protein etc. The filtration system processes the waste products and this is assisted by water changes and various other add on (like a protein skimmer). Therefore...i guess the final thing to say is that. Its quite impossible to keep cephlaplods for expended periods of time unless you can supply pristine water circulating water to them consistently the cephlaplod will die from waste products, disease and/or stress.... Most tanks recirculate about 15-30x of their volume per hour in a standard marine tank...composed of filters and powerheads etc.. So keeping them at home is a expensive and time consuming process...most dont even live for a year if you want to keep them for extended periods of time. Hope this helps, Justin
  14. It was an awesome day out on the water! That biggest fish measured 37 cm !!! Which is 1cm bigger than my pb! Slowly getting to the 40cm mark.... Thanks Steve, hope to see you guys around. Justin
  15. Yes it is possible to reset the password on your wireless router. But you just need to reconfigure it. By holding onto the reset button for about 10-15 sec will reset the router to your factory default settings Next you need to find how to access your router configuration on your browser by typing the URL (it depends what model you have). For example the Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router you type 192.168.1.1 into the adress bar. Thats what you have to find out first, once you have access to that page its pretty simple from there, its hard to explain when i dont know what router you have. Or you can follow young gun's advice and im sure your internet provider will help you! Justin
  16. Iv caught baby snapper on weed, bream, and suprisingly hooked a long tom (except it wasnt in the mouth but around the anal fin). Justin
  17. The maori wrasse, is actually better eating than the crimison banded wrasse. As you said they have pretty firm white flesh. Not a bad bag =D. Cant wait to get out and do the same! Justin
  18. Hey Peter! WOW PB blackie!!! One step closer to the 50cm mark =D Cant wait to get into blackies next week! Justin

    Gars

Where this is a pretty old report, but i decided to submit my record garfish into the records section since no one has taken it yet! Well, where to start. We were fishing along sand flats intertwined with weed in pittwater, with a bit of berly the yellowtail were boiling underneath as well an the LJs... Surprising i saw a few other fish there which i couldnt seem to entice with my heavily rigged outfit and slightly bigger hooks. When they got close enough, sure enough they were identified as being gar (eastern sea gar), correct me if im wrong. Well, after reading a quite a bit about them, out went the blackfish rig to catch a few of these tasty fish, it was almost like blackfish fishing again. Sitting back and looking at the float, waiting for a down...except i could see the gars take the bait. When they take the bait, they spin like mad! So much so, my 1m trace wraps around its beak! Massive tangles but they fish wont ever get away =] Well, theres not much more to say, they were caught on prawns. blackfish rig and 6lb trace. Oh, except they were fantastic to eat! Beautiful white flesh. Ended up catching about 8 or so used a few for bait and manage to catch a tailor of about 50cm which was lost at the boat. The biggest went 33cm, their beaks have been cut off for ease of transport just in case you were wondering why they're smaller. Justin

    Swansea

I frequently come back to sydney everyweek on the weekends, during the 2 hour drive from newcastle i pass swansea. Im wondering when tailor fish well from the rockwalls from the channel itself? Wouldnt mind spending a few chilly nights targeting them. Justin
  21. Great fish! I remember when we went to darwin there was a fish feeding place that was restricted to fishing...watched mullet and massive milkfish tussel for bread and even got to hand feed them. We had a guided tour fishing for barra, the guide said he just loves the battle with them on fly gear! They're defiantly a under-rated sport fish, i heard that they can be quite good on the tooth too. Justin
  22. It looks more like a rock blackfish, but sure looks tasty Justin
  23. Thanks!!! Guess what! im finally an adult. ahahah at the ripe age of 21. Justin
  24. I went to pittwater and broken bay last week for a fish with my family. Wanted to catch some live bait and ended up with a plague of LJ eating my hooks. Using yellowtail caught from last trip we absolutely smashed them catching 60 in about 1 hour (our bag limit). They were so active that i tied a frozen yellowtail and threw it out into the water, the fish was demolished. There were so many there that i even netted about 8 of them in one go. Eventually they got a bit smarter and stayed down low. They were let back into the ocean =D We moved somewhere which was calmer, which i think was juno point??? You could see a deep water marker in the distance and the opening of the bay shown in the pictures. Overall it wasnt an all too productive day, with catfish, pike eels, PJ sharks. But it was a great day, and one of the warmer days we've had in the past weeks. Cheers, Justin
