  1. Great effort, Looks like the Jackall Transams are going to be even harder to find now !
  2. How far North is North ? That bonnie is a cracker !
  3. That sucks mate...was your car parked next to the lake or was it in that little area where you can access the beach further down ? I left my car in that spot once...lucky i have an alarm where the beeper attached to the keys flashes when it is going off...ran back up the sand dune when i noticed it but the mongrels had fled without doing much damage...havent gone back since.
  4. I am looking at getting rid of a TLD 20 and Shimano Speedmaster IV if anyone is interested, The TLD 20 is spooled with about 550 metres of 15 kilo (thin diameter), speedmaster has no line.
  5. Netic does it again....Started with the Kingies then the Dollies, now the Yellowfin...next stop Marlin City I reckon ! Good stuff mate, hopefully the expected change in weather goes away by the time i get a chance to go out for them next week.
  6. no probs Cap3, Mal Florence, Ron Calcutt and Rod Harrison were great pioneers werent they? Would also love to get my hands on the fishermans world vids. I think we are showing our age here.... Unfortunately i dont reemember John Mellion though. Danielinbyron...they use to be available in my local vid as well, thats where i had seen them but i havent been there in years and when i returend the place was full of dvd's only....Geoff was the bloke who gave me the idea of using fish heads as bait for big snapper...i can still remember him using a huge bonito head and throwing it into the wash and getting slammed by a 10 kilo plus red. I will keep looking out for them and will let those interested know how i go.
  7. I remember watching these vids as a youngster and was wondering if anybody knows where to purchase these or if anybody is willing to part with their copies ?? This is the guy that made a few vids including Kingfish Secrets where he pins 3 kilo salmon and sends them out as live kingy baits. If tacklo's sell them are they on dvd now or is it still vhs. Thanks.
  8. I also have heard of a few big kings around the 12 mile reefs but have heard of them being caught on livies and big squid heads......Dotn see why jigging for them wouldnt work. I plan on doing some jigging in the coming months. If anybody has had success maybe you can share a few secrets, stuff like what sort of knife jigs you have had the most success with...sizes colours etc....i have two outfits a lighter 30 pound outfit that can take jigs to 200 grams and a heavier 65 pound outfit that can take bigger knife jigs......hopefully this will allow me to jig the reefs up to 50 metres and 100 + metres....i have only tried it once whilst fishing for snapper as an experiment and got a bonito first drop but nothing after that...i put it down to being anchored and not drifting....but then again it could just be that i havent got a clue....its a new form of fishing that i want to get into...the way they get those samson fish in WA freaks me out !!
  9. Believe it or not dolphins do occassionally get hooked but rarely landed. I was fishing off the breakwall at south west rocks with live mullet and as my bait hit the water when i cast i saw a dolphin fin dive and then my rod buckled over and i lost 300 + metres of braid within seconds and was coming close to a spooling...after coming to my senses i locked the drag up and busted it off...freaked me out. On another note last week we were fishing for snapper when my mates rod nearly flew out of his hands, we were floating baits and i have never seen a reel go so hard before....he wanted to chase the thing but i kept telling him if he didnt lock his drag up he would end up with no line in a hurry as it wasnt stopping, after reeling my line in and throwing the anchor bouy overboard ready to chase it he locked his drag up and snapped it off....we noticed that there were huge swirls in the direction of the line and then about 100 + metres down we saw a spout of water blow up and we couldnt believe our eyes...we are not 100% sure but we believe a whale must have swam into his line and after taking up the slack the hook must have caught onto its body.....wierd things happen.
  10. Eastcoastin, is that you andd the other Dan in the promo dvd which comes with the latest fishing world mag ?
  11. Penguin where about did you get the slimies ? I too wouldnt mind getting some for bait.
  12. Will fishing be allowed? By LARISSA MEIKLE Tuesday, 28 March 2006 One concerned fishing group is not opposed to the marine park, but is woried the community could be locked out of 20 to 30 per cent of the park under no access sanctuary zones, without scientific justification. Newcastle $%^&* vice president Geoff Ruse said the Marine Park Authority had failed to do an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the effects of the proposed park to back up its zones. The marine park proposal covers about 97,000 hectares, which extends from Cape Hawke near Forster to the north end of Stockton Beach. Mr Ruse is also worried about the lack of information available to the public and he believes he is not alone. Recently Mr Ruse attended a public airing about the marine park at Nelson Bay. He said a large crowd attended the meeting and he, like many others, welcomed the opportunity for locals to discuss the proposal. "There has been a dearth of information and counter claims from the Marine Park Authority and a lot of political spin and hype from metropolitan politicians. "So it was great to get first hand information, facts and figures from people who have been involved in this process in Cape Byron, which has been a total disaster for the Northern Rivers communities. "Now we have a better understanding and appreciation of what we can expect here at Port Stephens." Freedom to Fish is the slogan of Newcastle $%^&*, which is a branch of the NSW-based $%^&*, established last year to promote conservation of the environment through sustainable use and traditional management systems. Another local conservation group, Newcastle Wilderness Society, does not agree with ECOfisher's stance. The society's branch coordinator, Claire Dunn, believes the general public will not be locked out and will be free to carry out their recreational activities as normal. Ms Dunn said the proposed marine park was multiple-use and there would be full access, unlike a national park. "There are four certain zonings in the park, so fishers can still put a line in the water but there is no commercial fishing in sanctuary zones. "Yet, in the larger zones, general use such as commercial fishing is permitted." Ms Dunn said the park would be good for the economy with an increase in tourism. She believes recreational fishers would return to the area as there will be an increase in fish numbers. This is a similar platform to the State Government. NSW Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said there was evidence the marine park would generate significant tourism dollars and protect marine life. He said the local advisory committee was still working on the plan, with the draft zone still weeks away.
  13. great effort gill, what kind of lures were the fin taking, what colours seem to work best ?
  14. I love this subject...fishos have gone kingy mad but the jewfisherman are a bit quiet...must be all the fish we have been getting stuck into.... I have to agree with Red on this one, all fish fight differently, I have had small jew 10-15kgs give me more stick than my biggest at 72 pounds which came in after 10 or so minutes on the beach a few years back....location has a lot to do with it as well, most of my fishing for jew is done off the beach and if i dont feel any headshakes and the fight goes for over 1/2 an hour I usually bust them off thinking its a ray...you do get the occasional foul hooked fish which wont shake its head and take longer to bring up but thats the risk you take, you either have a broken back fighting a possible heavy piece of carpet or lose a fish of a lifetime. I would also assume that the new lines we have these days contribute alot to a jew fight time....braid seems to bring them in a lot quicker and guys who target jew in the known locations on the hawkesbury are using anything from 50-80lb braid these days, i know i wouldnt fish for jew there with anything less than 24kg mono or braid....One thing i have learnt about jew is that even though they are predictable in certain aspects...like habitat, what they are eating etc....you always can expect the unexpected so a 500 metre run in a river with a strong current is definately possible, especially from a 45kg+ fish....and if its the person i am thinking of then they use game gear so its not a made up story. Back to the original suject, Mick I can symphasize with your son mate...keep the reports and stories coming and unlucky !!
  15. Thanks Knapers....Gotta love Bob. Hey Mick...if it wasnt for you then i would have never known about your little touch of paradise. Next time I come up i'll pop in and say hello over a nice steak in the surf club....love that view from the balcony...the best thing about it was the Mrs loves the place as well. cheers mate. thanks mate, it sure did...wish i was still on holidays though....work is such a bummer.
