  1. Spent last night camped near the creek/lake at Brim. Of course I had to throw a line in managed these two just enough for a meal. Leave Victoria tommorow head for SAust
  2. Weekend before last we went to Culburra fished the river it was filthy . Did manage some fish on the rising tide. Also got more bream and blackfish day before. Heading to Weipa Sept 4 to 18th might be a spot available
  3. At least you had a positive result with something to eat and salt for bait. I don't mind fresh or smoked tailor. Another week might clear up a bit. Bruce
  4. Had a night camped by the Murray near Echuca. Caught some shrimps and used them live. Fished couple of hours late afternoon and a bit less the next morning. Landed 5 small cod a small silver perch and 3 carp. I was surprised at small number of carp.
  5. That's a very good reddie for the river. Shows the fish are still there just got to know where and give them a try. Good catch. I'll not be out till Friday. Bruce
  6. Hi Dave Wed morning would have been my first choice but grandparent duties got in the way. Thought you would go with the weather looking good, looked for your report wed arvo to get some ideas. Tried near mouth of Yowie Bay for nothing then deeper water off Lilli Pilli still quite even had trouble finding little reddies to feed. I can't even get little jewies . Fishing will be different next week. bruce
  7. Hi Gordon The rain we are getting now is why I had a fish on thurs morning. It will completely change the local fishing for a couple of weeks. We're heading to Culburra next weekend and I think fishing will be hard but accommodation is paid for so I'll have a family fish anyway. bruce
  8. Weather forecast does not look good for the rest of the week so I did a short trip this morning. Managed a couple of keepers. First legal king since Xmas even though skinny the big tail helped it put up a good fight on 2kg. Caught on a pilchard tail on a 1/0 hook. Not a lot of fish biting even though sporadic surface action. Only a couple of showers so kept dry Bruce
  9. I use a very light gauge 3/0 suicide hook lightly thru the end of the nose let them swim around unweighted Will stay alive in live well with constant water flow and half normal number of livebaits. But don't touch them unhook straight into tank.
  10. Current to the south at a fast walking pace you really only got one decent cast near the fad some boats were running back up. thru the boats past the fad which made fighting fish on light to medium tackle hard
  11. Weather forecast was good so headed offshore to chase dollies and anything else we might find. Stopped near the Bommie and dropped down the bait jigs even managed a new species a pilchard with a red tail which I think is what they call redbait. Headed out with about 20 small live baits . A few short stops to refresh the water and arrived at fad about 7 am already 7 boats there a couple of boats were hooked up but most weren't. Went over and had first drift past the fad double hookup landed both fish 1 90cm and one 70cm, continued to have drifts past the fad getting 1 or 2 fish each time till we were out of livebaits. Landed 15 released 6 that were lightly hooked. Ended up very congested with 15 boat including large game/charter boats and divers. The fish were spooked and gone quiet around 930 & we headed in shore caught a flathead for my wife who doesn't like dollies fished around the Bommie hoping for a king then back into the hacking and home.
  12. I don't mind a mixed bag a few different tastes and it makes for an interesting meal. I haven't been out in the hacking for a while might give it a try early next week.
  13. Congrats on getting a couple of the hoodlums you make it sound so easy. Good to hear the warm Bluewater is here decided to give them a try tomorrow Bruce
  14. Nice to see there are a few kings moving in the Hacking and that your perseverance was rewarded. I wonder what the remora had been swimming on and how big the shark was
  15. The ray was my 10 year old grandson lurecasting. Thought he had a big flathead like his dad's. I thinkI'llbe up at the rocks for Easter should get back from south Australia end of march. I'll send you a message in the next few days l
  16. Yes the flatty was a good fish my son, caught it on a little 70mm hard body with tiny trebles on 2 kg line fishing from the sand flat in knee deep water. He counts it as his no. 4 PB flathead. The photos are a bit hit and miss with me not able to see much on the phone screen because of the glare and no glasses. The longtom cook up very well they are a bit fiddly to fillet like garfish but when they are 60 -80 cm long you get a lot more meat off them. I lost a bigger flathead that swallowed a 32 cm whiting unfortunately the whiting came out after a minute or two. The garfish were actually the snub nose river ones. We had a great holiday.Next big fishing trip will be Culburra in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the replies Bruce
  17. Spent a week with my son and his family at the South West Rocks most days were long getting back from the beach or fishing around 630 pm. Fished the morning or the afternoon only fished the river. Kept 2 or 3 flathead a day plus whiting longtom bream garfish and crabs. Released a lot of fish including a 91cm flathead. All fish were caught on 2kg outfits fishing on sandflats. Ray put up a bit of a fight on 2kg for my grandson. Fishing was a little quiet this year maybe the clear water.
  18. Good haul of fish as we expect of you. Nice to take someone different out and put them on the fish. You must get a few requests for info and maybe a trip as you nearly always seem to get good fish Bruce
  19. Thanks everyone for replying Next target for the Hacking is a decent Jewfish. Might have to get a lesson from Yowie. Flattie was caught on a whiting hook on 2kg line 12 lb trace bait was a frozen nipper left over from Monday. Next week we'll be up at SW Rocks my grandson will spend hours casting lures, I'll spend a while with the fly rod before I change over to bait with the rest of the family. Bruce
  20. Good work getting the king they don't seem to be in the hacking in any numbers at the moment. I find it works well to use what I berley with for bait. Try the pilchard cube on a 2/0 or 3/0 single hook.
  21. Monday afternoon the wind wasn't too bad so decided to fish the Hacking late afternoon. Not too many boats out, pumped some nippers then fished rising tide on the flats. No whiting but kept 4 bream 28-34 cm and a 46 cm trevally. Moved out to deeper water off the baths after about 90 mins of small reddies caught a 31 cm & 33 cm fish. Headed back to the ramp 730 pm. Today took grandsons out, decided to fish Georges river for a change and to try and hide from the wind. Put in at Como and after 2 hours in the como area just a few throwbacks. Went down near Capt Cook bridge my grandson landed a 68 cm flathead his new PB. A couple of photos and a measure and it was back in the water swimming strongly. Don't know if I'll be fishing Georges again for a while, the hacking is starting to produce for me now days after many years of learning.
  22. Looking at the bend on the rods I guess it only takes anything going wrong for a big bang nice fish and it's nice to know there are good numbers down the coast
  23. Nice fish it only takes a couple to make the day unweighted nippers sounds like my style of fishing have to fish live podies more
  24. Fished Port Hacking this morning started in the deeper water off lilli pllli few tailor around bitten off twice landed couple not quite size. No other fish even the small reddies were a bit quiet. Moved onto the flats managed a mullet, a bream, a good crab purplish with a few barnacles then a 73cm flathead measure photo released. Pulled the hook on another high 50s next to the boat. Went quiet so moved over near baths caught a couple large pilchards, slow trolled live for zero. Headed up to gymea bay tried casting around any baitfish showing on sounder for zero then had a troll landed a nice salmon on a lure I hardly ever use. Back at the ramp by 10.
