  1. I think they are a bandaid and a dangerous one at times It will plane quicker It will lose top end speed You will have 4 ugly holes in your cav plate You will be more likely to snap the cav plate if someone stands on your new step/foil You may have unexpected handling issues If you boat is subject to broaching it may be magnified It may dig in at speed and make you carp your daks in a following sea when the sea is travelling faster then you it can cause issues again crap your daks Look at your setup first Weight distribution props engine Height Trim with wedges if necessary Repower with correct horsepower Repower with a lighter engine All options id consider before fitting one in a boat used on the open sea
  2. why does it need a foil ?
  3. if its a tiller it has no gauges to begin with so maybe just a tacho would do Control Box $350-$500 depending onmodel 2 control cables $100 each depending on length Wiring loom $349 quintrex want $1800-$2500 for the console with a helm and cable, price varied and tbh the dealers priced acording to how much effort they wanted to go to or they just guessed it seems
  4. i have the same boat with a 50 four stroke Why do you hate the tiller ? i found i had to cut the seat pole down to almost rear deck height when using the spigot attached to the front of the back deck Solo i did find it leans to the right a little so i just fill the bait tank and move my gear to the left
  5. if you can afford the fuel for the boat and tow vehicle and want a pure offhosre boat glass is the best option the deadrise you can get in glass boats and hull shapes are superior to the plate boat versions but you pay for it in weight and the hp needed to push that weight
  6. in what way does the crusher leave it for dead ? my experience is the barcrusher has a very fine entry to get a decent ride and this has some flaws when in a heavy sea and burying the nose quite deep into the wave in front at times
  7. for enclosed and open waters 1 is required nottation as more then one may be required depending on the boat from the rms maritime website Bilge pump – Manual or auto (vessel with covered bilge(s) or closed under-floor compartments other than airtight void spaces and must be capable of draining each compartment)
  8. do no u se those self serve carwashes if you have a bare ally boat they put mild acids into help clean the muck off easier and it eats or etchs the aluminium also its used over and over again and is pretty nasty
  9. depends on what risk your boat is at lots of through hull fittings, or bait tanks with over flows then add more capacity a 360gl pump after a few m of hose and 50cm lift will only pump about 20l per minute a 20mm through hull transom pump failure will pump 10 times that into a boat
  10. why do you have to keep topping them up ? that implies your losing grease clean axle good seals good bearings a dust cap and check every 6 months simple
  11. buy decent bearings timkens etc not the rubbish from the auto or boat shops
  12. do ou do the same thing over and o ver the same spot sover and over ? i have maybe 100 different spots just in the harbour same for botany the hawksbury down south just have to keep trying different spots and techniques
  13. i use to start mine every saturday morning after mowing the lawns let it idle for 5 mins then turn off id tell him that what your doing is not against the law and within your rights to do also dont flush at those car wash places the water is damaging to engines and ally boats
  14. what methods are you using ? not many will give advice if they think you are using bait as a lot of smaller fish get gut hooked on bait v artificial lures the fish are there all round, would be suicidal for a species if 100% of breeding stock moved at the same time
  15. realistically i think your budget is too low with children you need shade, someone where to rest and high sides and from experience the trips have to be short 1-2 hours max as they get bored easily what waterways or areas do you plan to fish . boat ownership is not cheap well quality time on the water boat ownership is not cheap 3k will realistically get you a 13ft tinny on a ok trailer with a sub 10 year old engine

    Flat battery?

depends on the type of fishing you do and accessories fitted if you start the engine 30 times and keep moving around it may flatten it if only short runs between spots I ran 2 bilge pumps for bait 2 sounders lots of lights for bait in the morning vhf 27mhz all off a house or second battery and would have to top that up after every trip charge them after getting back not before going out 3 months later someone could have just left the ignition on for a day or so and flattened it
  17. canopy will be cactus all that leaf little would have block the bungs up so water would have been sitting in the boat i be the floor is knackered that merc is a blue or red band ? over 30 years old will need new tyres the photos arnt clear enough or enough of them to offer to many opinions 2500 buys a nice tinny
  18. trailer 2.5 engine 2.5-3.5 9-10 for the hull is too much as said above what extras does it have epirb expiry ? electronics ?
  19. is the engine 1995 as well ? its pushing the age envelope for reliable boating outside, but that's just my view basic hull shape and a less appreciated boat hence the price being asked. the equivalent haines cruisecraft would go for more not able to link boats here but if this isn't 100% exciting you to buy it id hold off till winter as there are more boats listed during the winter months at better prices
  20. with a 13.75 x 13 inch prop 6000 rpm and 2.33 ratio your theoretical speed is 32mph with a 14 x 11 inch prop 6000 rpm and 2.33 ratio your theoretical speed is 27mph this doesnt allow for prop slip of 3-5% making the actual speeds speeds a little worse this is just physics and you need to do either more rpm to get more speed or swing a bigger prop which on a fishing boat just loads up the motor and it wont rev to max revs it is highly unlikely for a 60hp merc big foot to do 45mph and pitot tube speedos are highly inaccurate
  21. these boats were max 60 from the factory its now a fineable offense by rms and water police for going over the hp rating on a compliance plate 3 points around 175 dollars from memory
  22. teflon that speed off gps ? i had a 70hp johno 2 stroke on a 4.8m ally stacer i could only top out at 65kph one of the more powerful two stroke with less weight and it was getting a lower speed then the 73kph yours is getting, even my cruise craft explorer 500 with a 90hp johnson 2 stroke a 1.7l monster wouldnt go over 63kph 60hp was the max hp for the 475 caprice may struggle with max capacity on board but in a boat that size you would only be fishing 2 up outside so should be ok what year model merc
  23. get what you pay for mine was completely covered in flaking powdery paint from the aluminium bubbling underneat h but as long as the seals hold its only a cosmetic issue cheap is cheap and i considered them disposable units
  24. it all depends remoteness of location - ie is there coastguard coverage and how many other boaties out there to help you. the type of fishing- i use to troll headlands a bit and of main failed well your smashed on the rocks if you cant get a anchor down and get it to hold all engines can and have failed, as said above its what feeds the engines that is more likely to fail poor fuel wiring batteries
