  1. G'day Guys, Thanks for the replies. It's nice to know I wasn't the only one that did it tough and dragged a doughnut on Tuesday. I guess we have been a little spoilt over the past few years with huge numbers of Kings in the Harbours well and truly by now. Hopefully they won't be to far away. Maybe some of these savage southerlies have delayed things this year. Job - I will send you a PM with some squid info for you. Motohead - No I wasn't in a blur Polycraft I was in a white 5.65m half cabin. Lucky I was alone and hadn't promised anyone a good days fishing. Cheers all, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
  2. Hey Guys, went out early Tuesday to try and start my Kingy campaign. Had plenty of squid in the tank early and so I thought things were looking pretty good. Man was I wrong. I tried everything, every marker, every reef, trolling, drifting, whole live squid, squid strips, berley. Went outside up to Blue Fish Point. Did not even see a fish on the sounder. Was going to go to Long Reef but was getting low on fuel from all the moving around. I don't profess to be a Kingy Guru but I can normlaly hold my own and fill my esky on most occasions. No surface action anywhere either. The 20 minute drive home with the boat on the trailer felt like 2 hours. Don't think it's happening in the Harbour yet unfortunately. I even ended up releasing two of the squid I had caught back into the kelp to be a Kingy candy for another day and maybe some good karma with the fishing Gods for the next trip.
  3. Awesome report. Loved the underwater shots they turned out brilliant. Thats one hell of a walk in. I normally fish the snowy's and thought some of my walks were extreme but they pale in comparison. PS - the ransacked camp site, Lithgow Panther??????? Ha ha
  4. If your going to quote Maritime law then get your facts straight first, you are not a vessel restricted in your ability to manouvre, this applies to trawlers hauling nets, long lines etc, your a rec vessel, the definition is as follows, Vessel Engaged In Fishing: Any vessel fishing with nets, lines, trawls, or other fishing apparatus which restricts maneuverability, but does not include a vessel fishing with trolling lines or other fishing apparatus which do not restrict manageability. Trawling a downrigger does not in any way restrict your ability to manouvre in regard to the Navigation (Collision) Regulations 1983, you are saying that if you appraoched a an oil tanker in a narrow channel you would not be able to get out it's way because of your downrigger, ???????? you are making reference to this act as follows; Rule 18 Responsibilities between Vessels Except where Rules 9, 0 and 13 otherwise require: A power-driven vessel underway shall keep out of the way of: a vessel not under command; a vessel restricted in her ability to manoeuvre; a vessel engaged in fishing; So if your going to go on a public forum and slander the people that are on the water trying to educate other boat users to avoid more deaths on our waterways then get your facts straight first.
  5. The information from Bully is 100% correct. The whole area has been turned into a no stopping, drifting or fishing area due to the accidents in the area. It is called the Sydney Harbour Transit Zone. Only recent charts will have this information included however it is well and truly signposted when you are there. Also that area is directly under the Harbour Control Tower and they will notify Maritime and Water Police if the Ferries don't beat them to it. Is almost like the fish know that we're not allowed to fish there and they are spiting us. Oh well we have plently of other areas that we can harrass them in the harbour. The actual area that this applies is between the Opera House and Kirribilli Point to the east and between Millers Point and Blues Point to the west. Outside that normal rules apply, ie no anchoring in the channel etc. Hope this helps.
  6. Penquin, No ones pulling your leg. I went down there and saw it for myself. There were alsorts of poachers casting soft plastics, floats and livies inside the pool. Pretty ordinary.
  7. Anyone that fishes for Kingies whilst there trapped in a pool is struggling at best in my opinion. Not only is it a fisheries offence but hardly sporting. I think we all agree that the Kingfish is one of the greatest ##### if not the greatest especially in our local waters and they deserve better. If it was purely catch and release into the harbour then maybe that would be a different story, and i stress maybe. I heard from a fisheries officer that it was infact the case that some kings were caught in the Watsons Bay Baths and that a whole heap of poachers were there targeting them. Not a true fishermans proudest moment as far as i am concerned.
