  1. Hi everyone, Hopefully going out on Sunday. Anyone else heading out? Any news? Are there still marlin out there? Then plan is to head out off Sydney trolling towards the 12 mile. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  2. HI Ali-G, I think it was in the papers recently that it would be out of action for 13 weeks and that was about 2 weeks ago so I guess it's another 11 weeks. Not sure where you are headed but you could launch into Botany Bay from the reasonably new ramp off Foreshore drive. Lots of lanes and parking. Also depends on where you live but Taplin Park in Drummoyne, Bayview Park in Canada Bay (northern end of Burwood Rd), will see you drop into the harbour. Dave.
  3. Hi Plumb, Did you scrape out the black lining in the gut of the mowie? That gives them a bitter taste. Dave.
  4. Sorry for coming into the thread late. But the post by OUTFISHER twigged my interest as I thought you were allowed to clean fish on the boat. But agree you cannot fillet. According to the saltwater fishing guide (page 58) "You are not permitted to: * alter the length of a fish or invertebrate by filleting/shucking and/or removing the head/shell until well away from the water. This rule does not apply at areas normally used for cleaning fish such as a boat ramp cleaning tables; if the fish are for immediate consumption or immediate use as bait; or for fish that do not have a legal length. You may clean fish by gilling and gutting" I'm going to rely on the above as my defence.... your honour.
  5. Hi Raiders, Happy Easter!! I've been looking forward to getting out today for some time and following with great interest the wind and swell... Well it all looked good on Thursday night and I spoke to my uncles and we were all set to go. Met at the boat, stowed all the gear and hooked to boat up and set off for the ramp. Got to Rose Bay after filling up and all was going well. Except this feeling that I had forgotten something... Launched and went to park the car, there seemed to be lots of cars with no trailers parked in the trailer parking spots. As we get to the mouth of harbour, I hear, "Where's the bait?"... I reply, it's in the green esky... "What green esky?". I knew I'd forgotten something. I quickly work though the options. Go and get it, call the wife to drop it off, get the wife to put the esky in a taxi. Well after deciding we have enough little bits and pieces, we continue out towards Long Reef. We started on our first drift and manage a few snapper around 35-40cm (along with the usual rubbish, sweep, sergeant baker etc). Thinking it was not too bad. After a while the bites stop, so we head back for another drift. Second drift, the odd snapper to start off and things slow again. Then I get a bite, set the hook thinking mowie... then all hell breaks loose. This thing take off, could it be a king, it's quite heavy.. But it's not fighting like a king. After a couple of runs I see thing surface at the back of the boat. Holy sh1t, it's a SNAPPER.. We get it in the net the first go. Don't know how heavy but it's 80cm on the lie detector!!! Definitely my PB (previous PD was about 32cm... ) I thought I'd have to go to SA or possibly Vic for a snapper that size. We manage to get through the day using what bait we had.... as well as converting the odd sergeant baker into bait.
  6. Hi guys, Just wanted to thank you for the video post. Absolutely sensational. Dave
  7. Hi everyone, Thank you for the suggestions. Any and all information is gratefully accepted. Yes the samaki jig pro is a red blank. A mate of mine suggested that I look at the monster mesh and of course the saltiga rods as well. He owns a couple of t-curves (200gm and 400gm) and swears by them. So many other options, jigging master 3 kings, Majorcraft, HOTS, JM Ocean etc. I'd have to agree it's hard to tell what they are like from pictures online and their description. This is much harder than finding a reel....
  8. Hi Raiders, I'm looking at getting the 2010 Daiwa saltiga 5000 (std speed not the high speed) for some jigging/live baiting. Used mainly for kings off Sydney and Terrigal. Jig size mostly 250-300, braid, 40-50lb (probably 50lb) I'd like to match it with a rod and am looking at the Shimano Jigwrex, Samaki jig pro or Wilson Live Fibre Venom. Could I ask for your help/thoughts on these rods?? I'm not too worried about price given the reel is over $1k!! I like the samaki as when you tuck it under your arm pit, the padded part of the rod but sits under your arm whereas on the jigwrex it's on the rod blank. Any thoughts/comments/suggestions would be gratefully accepted. Thank you all in advance. Dave
  9. insomniac92 is right, the Roseville ramp is quite good and very easy in terms of access. If you have a national parks pass you don't need to pay the $7 too. You can also try Tunks Park which is near Cameray. I've been using Rose Bay lately but it gets very busy.
  10. That is a horse. Great catch.
  11. Thanks Tobe. When we went out it was quite windy so we didn't head up to Longy but sheltered under North Head and up to Blue fish point. We trolled around a caught a few bonnies and also managed to throw lures at them when busting the surface. Hopefully will get up there tomorrow... just not sure about the coming home bit given the start of the Sydney to Hobart... Merry Christmas. Dave.
  12. Thanks very much Luke. Planning to head out on Sat. Probably just a light troll around the heads for a bonnie and maybe a quick trip to Long Reef and soak some bait. Dave.
  13. Hi Billseeker, Did you do any good? I haven't been out for weeks and I just had a new sounder fitted to my boat (today) and am looking to do a "water test". Thanks Dave
  14. Hi Ben, Just a question, can't you buy pre made centre consoles? Would that be cheaper? Bias boating? Dave
