Hey Geoff, I hiked in to a section of the kowmung a few kilometres down stream, on the way in the water looked very fishy, got to the campsite, dumped the packs and ran straight over to the river to check it out. hiding in the vegetation beside the river i spied 2 of the biggest fish id seen in the kowmung, 2 of the biggest carp. what a dissapointment. i managed to land one on a wolly bugger. my theory is that the lower sections of the river are to warm (we did spend the afternoon swimming in it), and the trout are either further up stream or back in the dam where they can find cooler water. Id be interested to hear what you think? mark.

thinking of heading up that way sometime in the new year if you guys are keen mark.

Matt, i must admit it is very exciting to here of someone fishing one of my favourite places, especially cause your doing it on the fly. if your heading down from narrow neck ridge you should try walking down yellow pup ridge( not 100% sure on the name but check your maps). it will put you on the coxs river just downstream of the junction with kanagra creek. not far up kanangra creek is a flat campground on the left, just below mt strongleg(check that one too). kanagra creek is a beautiful stream perfect for a 6weight and does hold some good fish. i havent been down that way in a couple of years but there has been a bit of rain so the river should be in good condition. you can drink the water straight out of the creek but i usually carry a water purifier with me. even puritabs will work on the water in the coxs as a last resort. You could probably fish for 3 days on kanangra creek and its tributries. if your in the area its worth checking out. mark.

steve, ive fly fished the barrington tops only once the best luck i had was at the polblue swamp. there is a very small creek that runs through it. the trout were only small but a lot of fun. my folks say they sometimes see other flyfishes up there and i think most of the rivers in that area hold fish, all the best keep us posted with how you go.

there is some great dry fly fishing on most of the smaller streams between ebor and dorrigo. alot of the time you only need a royal wulff but take a few others just in case. on cooler days small bead head nymphs do account for their fair share of fish. hope this helps im heading up the weekend after easter so keep me posted. cheers mark.

Hello Raiders, Was able to take the weekend before last off, as a long weekend and the stepfather suggested we go fly fishing. I said i would take him up to the new england area as i have fished there many times and know the quality of fishing would be alot better then down jindy way. we spent the best part of 4 days fishing many of the small creeks in the area,both prefering to fish the small stuff. the trout were everywhere and usually more then willing to accept a descent presentation. fly choice was not so critical and i caught most fish on a royal wulf. although one particular stream proved difficult and the fish were only taking nymphs.(i found this out the hard way and had spent most of the day fishing with the dry with limited success). the fish sizes varied some that wouldnt fit across the palm and your hand with the biggest fish caught going 47cms. a great weekend spent fishing in some of the most beautiful country in this great land of ours. im hoping to get amongst some of these harbour kings on thursday. good luck . mark. p.s will try and post some pics later
