  1. Hi Peter, I would stick with the Yamalube. Its GL4 compared to the Penrite which is GL5. I swapped to the penrite and started to notice crunching in the gear box. I drained it and went back to the Yamalube and had no issues. I do have a mid 80's yamaha 2 stroke so the "newer" 2 strokes may be able to handle it. Bill
  2. Mate, Got a funny feeling thats my mates spear! Unbelievably, he got busted off in Botany Bay!
  3. Thanks for the warm welcome guys.Jewgaffer, mate I love my landbased fishing, not really a fan of boat fishing(get ants in my pants and need to move around!!) If you like,we could organise a land based session and have a good old fashioned yarn.

  5. G'day all, Im a new member and would like to thank jewgaffer for sharing all his wealth of knowledge. Your a legend! so many other experienced fisherman keep all their secrets to themselves and are not willing to share, very disappointing as we all learnt from someone on how and where to fish.I would also like to put Taren point Julius and his regular fishing buddy at captain cooks bridge(sorry I forgot his name) into the gentlemen category for sharing their knowledge.I have had the honor of meeting Julius and his friend at the bridge a few times and they were willing enough to share information. You are all true genlemen. With this in mind, I would like to share some food for thought when fishing for jewies.I frequent sydney harbour regularly fishing for jews with not much success.I have used live bait and have had hookups, but never been able to bring up "that fish of a lifetime" except for one 3kilo jew. Whilst getting frustrated fishing the harbour,I decided to give Tom Uglys bridge ago. Called a mate of mine and decided to go for some bream down their at about 10 am. We got their and started fishing using blood worm. We started chatting to a guy fishing under the bridge who said he was fishing for Jewfish using blood worm. My mate and I sat back and watched this guy watching his rod like a hawk for the slightest of movement. Now Ive been fishing for many years and I knew the current would make your rod move.So when we saw this bloke lifting his rod and yanking it back with force, my mate and I being the idiots we are, looked over and thought this guy is bonkers! he winded in his line and sure enough, no fish on there. Ten minutes later, same thing.Slight movement of the rod, huge heave on the rod and wind. We didnt even bother paying attention to him(We were just sitting back waiting for our rods to keel over to pull in the bream!) This time, he landed a small jew of about half a kilo. He quickly threw back in the water, baited up again and cast it out.My mate and I thought what a fluke. Now a couple of minutes later, same thing but this time, there was an all mighty bend on his rod and the reel screaming. We looked on in shock as he called us over to help him net the Jewie!! He casts again, watches the rod closely then bang! his on, get the net, another Jewie! This went on for about half an hour until he ran out of bait. He had pulled in 7 jewies (about 4-5 kilo each) and to his credit kept two and released the others. After speaking to him,he said that Jewies love worm and he watches his rod for the slightest movement as the jews will mouth the bait, swallow the worm and spit the hook with the slightest of movement on the rod, thats why he yanks back to hook the jew. (and we thought it was the current!!) Now this goes against everything I thought I knew about Jewies i.e. wrong time of the day, jews running with the bait and using live bait with big 10'O hooks. Moral of the story, doesnt matter what you think you know about fishing, you always keep learning. It pays to think outside of the square. Knowledge is your best piece of equipment when fishing. Sorry for the long first post, but I had to share this story.
  6. Well done yarn! excellent result on the king and jew!
