Hi mate,
I've got the same rod and matched it up with a 3000 sol running 15lb braid and I find it's a perfect match (you can run heavier braid if you want) I think you'll find a 4000 reel too heavy for the rod. I upgraded the washers to carbontex from the start and never looked back.
The rods are awsome and can handle big fish without fear of breaking the rod, they are insanely strong.
thanks mate that's the sort of info I was after, I really wanted a four stroke or DI two stroke but Im in love with this particular boat. It's only a 5.5m so it should fly with a 150!
Hi mate, it's not an e tec, just your standard looking Johnson. Im thinking he means it's oil injected? Is there a big difference between these and your older types of two strokes in regards to how much smoke they blow, noise, fuel use etc???
Hi all,
im looking at purchasing a boat that has a 2005 Johnson 150 hp outboard, the owner says its got direct injenction but my searches have failed to verify this. Was wandering if anyone knew or could shed some light in general on these motors such as reliabilty, fuel consumption etc. Any help will be appreciated as im set on this boat.
cheers
Hi mate,
a photo would be a big help but it sounds a lot like the boats you can hire on the gold coast called "larks" I believe. They run 6 or 8 hp on them from memory and they go real good, I don't think they will handle that sort of power and I think it would fly with a 15hp on the back.
Don't mean to hijack the post but it's got me thinking, I have a tiller steer with no tachometer, is there a way to check the revs?? I'd like to know if I have the right prop (it's an 02 Honfa 25hp)
cheers
You could also check out the shimano speedmaster tsm1V, a fantastic casting reel, I have had a few and they will fit a heap of line and are top value, great for working lures as they're 6:1 ratio.
I've got a viper which I had paired with a 3000 sol but found it too small for the rod, I've since put a 4000 certate on it and it's perfect now! This is my heavy outfit, I also have a medium outfit which is a 10-17lb Zion with the 3000 sol which I use for snapper and it's a nice combo. The magnum butt would be perfect with your luvias.
Exaxtly what i was thinking!! If the stella fails you than anything less is not gonna last so maybe just have spare spools in case you get low on line.
