Hi mate. I’ve caught good tuna on charters with Damo and Mike on Reef Magic and George on Wahoo

I think I've still got the reel burn in the palm of my right hand from catching Jewies with the old no drag cedar versions. I remember gaffing one for Dad that he caught on it using red and white feathers that went +35kg jewie off Dundogan Wall with it in the early 80s. You definitely couldn't break em and the sand didn't matter. I've also got a smaller cedar version I always liked as a drummer real. Could float baits around and release line as needed. Great yabby pumps too.

My kids like eating the shovel nose better than anything. Skinless fillets of the flanks deep fried in beer batter. Can't believe I didn't try them earlier

Went for a fish late Monday afternoon on Dunbogan Beach. Caught a few worms and fished a nice gutter on the northern end of the beach near the rocks. Pulled 3 nice bream and 2 good whiting. Would have liked to spend a little longer into the evening as it held good water and looks promising for a jewie but had to get back home (a little late anyway). If you're up there I'd give it a go. Fished the North Haven Beach the night before for zeros. Back in Sydney now unfortunately

Very nice run of fish guys. Anytime your catching them in the 30's and 40's is a really good day. you guys certainly have them sorted. Great to see you catching them so regularly

Chris. I don't know that break wall but if it's anything like North Haven or Port Macquarie and your fishing the mouth of the river with a bit of swell through it I'd be using your beach rod. Save you getting too close to the water and you could lift them out depending on your line class and fish size. Ganged hooks with a ball sinker running down to the hook is what I used for tailor and salmon. Size of the sinker depends on the conditions on the day and how far you need to cast

Thanks guys. I agree with luderick angler they eat well if you treat them well. I did let these go after the photo but do like them fresh. I didn't have enough weed for burley this time but it didn't matter, they were on when I got there and bit through the tide change, but it's a spot that's hard to fish on the run in so packed it in not longer after it turned back. If the weather stays like this I might find my way down there again this weekend and see if their still about, if I can get some weed. Cheers everyone

With such great weather I thought I'd grab a handful of weed and see if there were any blackfish at my favourite spot in the Georges River on the bottom of the tide. Turned into a fun session with 7 decent fish and as many again just under size. Nothing spectacular with the biggest only 32cm but a great afternoon. Cheers. Garry

I'm with Scratchie. Having fished the Peak in Sydney during the 70s I've caught a lot of kingies over 1m but only a handle of jewies. Reckon I've lost more over 1m than I've caught

You must be gutted. that's always the most vulnerable part of the fight. We're you moving up and down the beach with the water flow to take some of the pressure off as it recedes and take maximum advantage of the surge as it pushes the fish up the beach. At least you know where to focus your efforts now. Looking forward to reading you putting one on the sand. Then you can enjoy the slog back to the car through the soft sand with a decent Jewie over your shoulder. Cheers. Garry

Popular spot, I've got a lot of family up there including my 89 year old parents. Went up for the bank holiday weekend earlier this month. Fished north haven wall one night. Lost a small Jewish ~80cm when the hooks fell out at my feet as I tried to slide it out and a much bigger fish on the rocks late in a long fight. Was on my own and needed an extra pair of hands unfortunately. Went chasing kingies outside with my cousin who drop lines for them up there from his trawler. He had a good day with the fish averaging 5kgs. Caught a few on the rod from the back of the boat while he was doing his thing and picked up this small Bar Cod as a surprised catch just before we headed home. It's about 75 Fathoms and hard on the back after a few in a row. My brother & I also caught a few blackfish from North Haven wall while were there. All in all a great couple of days with the weather playing ball. Must be something in the water keeping our parents young like the movie Cocoon Cheers Garry

Hi Brendan. The lake is open at the moment and fishing really for whiting and blackfish. They usually fish for blackfish around the southern side of the bridge If they are on you'll see people there chasing them. There's generally good green weed in the lake. Take the first road right after you cross the bridge if coming from Port and follow it around until you see another bridge. The weed is all around the shoreline there (usually). The North haven break wall is also pretty reliable spot for blackfish. Half way along the wall you'll see some tidal pools behind the wall which hold green weed and you can fish for blackfish right there. You can try cabbage as well from the local rocks. I generally collect if from the northern end of South beach on the Dunbogan side. There's always plenty of cabbage there and you fish all around those rocks as well depending on the swell and the sand movement. The mouth of Googlys Lake on the eastern side also fishes well for them if you have a boat to get across. If you're in Port try the breakwall . It can be one of the best blackfish spots up there. Heff I love that place. Fished it all my life and have a lot of family in the area. they haven't had our weather basically no rain despite what we've been experiencing. This time of year will be good for bream off the North haven wall. Enter near the surf club I like fishing near the mouth on the river side around the tide changes. Runs too hard otherwise. Good for tailor on the beach side at the end of the wall as well. Pretty reliable night spot for jewfish, I fish either side but generally find the inside works best for me. think there would be some blackfish as well back towards the park and some weed that sits I the tidal pools behind the wall. You access that best through the park opposite a takeaway shop near Edith st. t's past the big round about which takes you to Port Mac There kids play equipment near the road so hard to miss. Fishes well for bream there also on the tide changes with a reef running down the middle of the river. You might see guys there casting lightly weighted baits into the middle and walking the wall. Googlies Lake has a big sand flat at the back of the Dunbogan Wall follow the dirt track on the left as you turn on to the road to Pilots Beach. Great for yabbies and then whiting and flathead at high tide, would be great in the yak but starting to get late in the season. You could put in there and fish that flat or venture through the small opening in the wall at high tide and fish the Klondike which is a shallow reef on the left with the red Channel marker. South beach on the Dunbogan side good for bream, whiting Jews etc. I like worms off the beach and there plenty along it. Just keep checking the flats until you run across them. I usually enter the beach now off the 4wd access that runs off Scarborough Way or fish the North end near or off the rocks. If you see a couple of 80 odd year olds catching worms and pulling out a few bream driving a Suzuki stockman along the beach its probably my uncle and father. As Witha mentioned Queens Lake can fish well especially for flathead, there's a big sand flat where the creek opens up into the main lake which we like to flick plastics around and good for pumping yabbies Been a great year for crabs in that lake with the pros working it hard but again might be late.
