  1. Mate I grew up catching kings off the mangonui wharf in NZ,my biggest off there 27kg and lost plenty bigger, theres no better feeling getting one landbased after pursuading them through moorings and hopefully holding them away from pilons, I only ever used 15kilo so you just have to be lucky and it all needs to go right for you, I used to find people using to heavy gear lost more fish cause when they are that big,the more drag you put on them the harder they go! sometimes its just up to the fish what happens?
  2. Sorry our call call sign `necessity`21 also.
  3. Good Luck mate, hope you get on,Its funny the Canyons worked last year at this time so we will see?
  4. Were heading out tomorrow,I was thinking of south towards the Southern Canyons, has anyone been out in the last couple of days?
  5. thats what i thought,Im an ex pat kiwi that spent 13 years living in the far north deck handing and commercial fishing flounder so i didnt think I was mistaken. i had plenty of cut fingers in my time from there razor sharp gills getting them out of my nets!!
  6. Actually, can someone clarify,I have thought for my whole life blackfish were luderick??
  7. forgive me for being wrong I thought they were the same fish, yes they were luderick.
  8. I grew up in mangonui about an hour north of keri Keri,Blackfish or (parore) are regard as a pest to net fisherman and generally are not targeted as they are regard as one of the less better eating fish readily available,i use to bycatch a hundred at time sometimes in my flounder net when we got big tides and they came into the shallow water, some of those were easily 6kg to my memory. Vaughn.
  9. We fished friday,we trolled the Fads ,Plonk holes, then down the shelf to the southern canyons for zeros,in 30 fathoms theres a lot of flying fish, the close fad is holding a lot of small kingies, water temp was around 20.7 all the way down the shelf, all the other boats seemed to be fishing north with nothing coming over the radio, im sure it wont be to long before its starts though.its a case of getting lures wet and eventually it will happen.
  10. they are a standard table fish in NZ ,i have caught hundreds, mostly caught over the sand or close to beaches over there, they are an excellent table fish with nice white flesh!!
  11. we trolled all day on fridays for zeros 10km east of browns ,worked the shelf to the Kink, water was 23 in close to the 50 fathom mark after that it was around 22.2,water was very dirty looking.plenty of birds and bait but not a fish seen,I think its hit and miss at the moment?
  12. You shouldnt be running more than 6kg on that reel, thats all there rated to.

  14. Unfortunately as much as we all want to give this idiot a piece of our mind the best way to manage him is to completely ignore him,if he gets no reaction out of anyone whatsever then hopefully he will get bored and turn to something else to amuse his small mind, hes obviously not catching a lot of fish as he seems to have plenty of time to talk crap all day.
