  1. I 'm no expert but I thought the rod 4th from the left in the top photo would be for an overhead?
  2. You wont have trouble towing your boat with either of those cars. I can't give you exact specs on either but i tow a 17foot 1/2 cab mustang with a 90 on it with both an "85 2L hilux and a V6 commodore no dramas at all
  3. Car engines don't do tens of of thousands of kilometres before requiring a workshop visit, as you seem to think. Although a lot of people don't know it most engine oils are only good for 10k or 6 months, what ever comes 1st. The lubricating properties in the oil are no good after 6 months, regardles of klms, this is one of the hardest things to convince people of. It doesn't matter if the car sits in your garage for 6 months, after that the oil is cactus. On what knowledge are you advising sammy to go double the amount of hours the service schedule says before he needs a service, it's easy to advise someone not to worry about the service schedule when it's their motor and not yours. I used to be a mechanic and I change my car oil every 5k or 3 months. I bet You've never seen the inside of a motor that has had regular oil changes compared to one that has been basicly neglected, or let go for 20k or so, time after time. Let me tell you, they're filthy, dry, hard, baked on oil all over the place, bloody horrible, but everyone thinks, "it still goes so why should I service it?" Besides that, a car engine is under a lot less stress than an outboard so I would be enclined to follow the service schedule, basicly, if you bought a 4 stroke, you paid all that $$$ for it, you have to maintain it. Just my 2cent worth!!!
  4. Yeah I thought that would be water police, not waterways officers. The waterways/maratime are the rules which must be followed. The water police are only trying to enforce the waterways' rules and sometimes get confused or mistaken. I've had this conversation with someone on here about EPIRBs. On a boat less than 8m you aren't required by law to have an EPIRB (written in the waterways' rule book and I've confirmed it with them), yet this bloke was sent to shore with a warning by water police because he had an EPIRB that was out of date when he didn't have to have one at all. Basicly the water police don't know or don't fully understand all the rules properly, best thing to do is get a copy of the waterways rule book and keep it on your boat so you can produce it and show the water police in writting that they are wrong. There is also an office which is manned by waterways officers 7 days a week from 8am till 5pm that you can get the water police to ring and confirm if he is booking you for something that goes against what the waterways rules say. I know it's easier to just keep the peace and say yes sir, no sir, most of the time, but in a situation like I've mentioned with the EPIRBs where you're being sent back to shore and having your day cut short when the bloke is wrong, or with the light thing when the waterways rule book says you only have to carry and exhibit the correct lights between sunset and sunrise, why the bloody hell should you?
  5. Been plenty of blackfish down this way the last few months.
  6. So what about the bloke out fishing during the day in a little 10 or 12 foot tinny that doesn't have any nav lights, He's not breaking any laws. Are they going to make it that you're not allowed to be out in a tinny with no nav lights even during the day anymore incase they break down and end up out there in the dark? I think not.
  7. They can't do that mate, the following is from the maratime website "Navigation at Night Be Bright – Be Safe at Night When night falls it is a completely different world on the water, and so vessels that operate from sunset to sunrise, whether at anchor or underway, must carry and exhibit the correct lights". You don't even have to carry them before sunset and after sunrise.
  8. Mate, on the right day you can get that far outside in almost anything. I've been out off port kembla around the close islands and the beach plenty of times in a 12 foot flat bottom tinnny with a 15hp motor. I've seen blokes out there in kayaks/canoes. You have to check the weather before you go and keep an eye on it, but mate, if you play it safe and remember there's always tomorrow, a 4 or 4.5m tinny with about a 25hp (as previously suggested) would be fine for what you want to do. Good luck with it.
  9. Thats why I drink heaps of water (atleast 1L even 2L if I can stomach it) before I go to bed, Always feel better in the mornings when I've remembered to drink the water compared to when I forget about it.
  10. So as the title says, give us all your best hang over cure, theres got to be millions of them out there, everyone you talk to seems to have their own special cure. Well mines is in 2 parts, the first is to help prevent it from happening, drink heaps of water before you go to bed, and part 2 is the good old greasy feed of bacon and eggs or something like that when you get up. So, lets hear it, whats yours???
  11. Nah mate, you need a PWC licence to drive one at any speed, Some of the rules are different on a PWC compared to a boat. Eg the distance you must stay from people in the water, or from the shore line etc. I don't really think it's a mistake, depends on how you take what it says. I can see how it is confusing but, it could have been worded better.
  12. Nah mate, the other one that was running in the boating section.
  13. I just found it mate, it actualy wasn't that long ago. It was started on the 10th june and the last post was on the 8th july, and you actualy posted in it on the 17th june, some bloody good ideas in there too. Not sure if there was another one running 5 months ago that you're thinking of but that was the one i was refering to. I love the hotdogs in the thermos idea, so easy and yet still a good feed.
  14. wasn't this same thread running a month or so ago?
