someone tell me what this is please ...caught three near CHB off Swansea in about 30mtrs of water over reef..is it some type of Grouper or Cod?
  3. Decided to head out swansea heads today, conditions supposedly were good with 1.2mtr swell and little wind.Thought i'd head out to 100mtr mark and see what was down deep on bottom. Ended up giving that away as the current was so strong that with 2oz lead still could not find bottom. Decided to head back to around 46mtr to wreck where few small squire and flathead were caught and released and current still strong and wind was starting to get up so headed in closer to inshore reefs around wybung head. Very little action so proceeded to head north towards CHB looking for fish on the sounder. Again little action with a pike, trevally sergeant baker and small flathead all thrown back. There was quite a bit of surface activity aroumd so trolled a rapale CD9 magnum lure and caught some huge salmon all released which was fun The water temp was around 22deg but was very dissapointed with the results. Talked to few guys back @ ramp and they too had little result. My question is, where are all the fish. Still good day to be out on the water, better there than work...and now im goin for an ale ..cheers all PS forgot the camera would of liked to post thepics of the big salmon
  4. ships he's referring to are the coal ships anchored out wider i imagine
  5. went south from Swansea to WYBUNG only found leatherjackets went to ADVANCE WRECK and couldnt find it even tho had it marked on sounder from previous trip but picked up some flathead to 58cm, and some more jackets only these were quite large came in around CHB found nice flathead to 55cm lots of whales around today must of seen at least a dozen different ones breaching and showing off. Came back around Moon Island and there were big schools of salmon and they were huge, I'm talking 10-12 lb and fat, great fun was had on light gear. All salmon released kept a couple flathead for t and rest were released Sorry no pics as left camera @ home.Water temp was around 18-18.4 so still a little cool.
  6. have 4 stroke motor Yamaha 98 model and accidently put the ethanol based unleaded fuel in it. Dont know if this was cause but motor played up all day, especially @ idle it would constantly cut out and hard to restart, and at low idle speed it would constantly miss. Wonder if this was caused by not enough oil in the fuel. Has anyone else had this problem with wrong fuel and do I need to get the fuel out. ps Didn't have this prob last week when nomal unleaded fuel in. Ps went out fishing around pulbah yesty but got tired trying to restart and keep motor going so fising was called off. MOved to bonnells bay 2 weeks ago so any help by you raiders out there would be appreciated.
  7. Yeah I told him he should get some trout fingerlings and put in there but I think the redfin may end up devouring them! I think we should catch all the redfin, throw them on the bbq, invite all the boys around, av a couple of beers while watchin the footy, and have eveyone bring a dozen trout fingerlings with them to throw in the dam also. Then have a few more beers while we watch them grow
  8. Went to my mates private dam in the central west today as he said he had stocked it with redfin. WTF I said r Redfin?. He told me they are a freshwater species [actually a pest] Went down to see the dam and it was huge @ least 80mtrs long and 50mtrs wide. To my surprise I could see the fish within 2mtrs of the bank with the water being so crystal clear. Grabbed my little shakespeare ugly stik SPL 1.78 rod with my Penn 4300 spinning reel loaded with 6lb line and attached a 2"gulp soft plastic [green] and threw it just passed the fishes nose. Slowly wound back and bingo, first cast first fish of the day. We found another 8 in the next hour and had some fun. All fish had to be sighted close to shore and cast to for consistent results but when tried to cast into deeper water , no result??? Dissapointed at the fighting capability but put it down to being in a dam and not wild. Anyway killed some time and had a ball and some good casting practice before heading to coast for some real action hopefully next week. P.S All fish were released for us to catch tomorrow I know this is a coastal website but thought you all may enjoy something a bit different. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/pests-...es/redfin-perch
  9. from ballambi ramp I think it may be around 20klms to the NNE and approx 6klms wide off the coast, good trip home if there is a northerly wind blowing back to Bellambi but hell if a southerly blows up. check the weather before you go as it is a long way home either way if wind and swell conditions are not compatible 4 your type of craft.
  10. birdie beach at budgewoi is a renowned jew spot, find a good gutter with high tide on dusk or early evening...all the better if you can catch some live tailor rigged on a 6/0 hook and be prepared to put the hours in and eventually you will be rewarded. My personal best is a 42 lb landed south of Budgie main beach...also @ hargreaves south of munmorah surf life saving club there is a reef about 400m offshore and the jew patrol between the reef and shore.
  11. Thanx 4 all the positive feedback guys ...here r a few more of my shots from Sat..hope u enjoy them..ps my 2day..i'm off to get
