  1. Thanks Nas! Nothings beats first hand info! Kato - congrats on the catch! I was especially interested in your post because I was going to head out last night but didn't because of the barometer. Looks like I need to change my tactic
  2. Hey Raiders, I wanted to get some feedback and personal experiences around Jewfish captures and Barometric pressure... I have made a diary of all my Jewwy catches and what I can see is that every single catch was taken when the barometer was over 1010. I've heard people talk about it, but is it true? Is it worth throwing a precious (hard earned) squid in the water when its 1005? Have people caught a Jewwy when its 1002? Does barometer matter less when fishing from the surf and more in esturies or deep water? Thanks! Sherwinator
  3. Now you just need to convert them into some Jewwies
  4. Ahhhh, unlucky mate. Sounds like a trademark Jewwie spit-out! I agree with your tailor theory. A tailor head squashed under foot us also a great dead bait (after filleting a tailor keep the head and two triangle shaped bits of flesh attached).
  5. Wow! Epic first Jewwy! I've been chasing em for a few years now but am yet to crack the 1m mark Apparently the tailor heads are great bait too. Just smash them up a little first... Sherwinator
  6. Good report mate. I must say I have found the squid very "light on" lately. Been hitting manly a fair bit too... Sherwinator
  7. ha ha. Good stuff guys. Looks like Dee Why? I was there a few weeks ago and got absolutely smoked twice by something. Recon they were some big sharks. There was no stopping them. I played one for quite a while - walked about 200m down the beach before it realised it had a hook in its mouth and blew me away. Sherwinator
  8. Zaki, Its literally a 8ft + pole in the sand on the waterline about half way up the beach. I was using tailor strips from a fish I caught and froze the week before. Also used some frozen squid... Sherwinator
  9. Hey Quochuy, Good stuff! I was fishing Dee Why beach 2 weeks ago and got blasted twice by a couple of absolute horses! I'm pretty sure that they were sharks but who knows. I fought one for 15 mins and it pulled over 200m of line off me. I also got a really good size tailor and a good salmon. Was just in front of the pole on the lead up to high tide... Will be back there when my leg gets better. I did my MCL in the surf last week Sherwinator
  10. Thanks for your feedback everyone. Some good info in there. Sounds like I could try some slightly bigger circle hooks and keep the drag at a respectable ratio. The consensus seems to be let them hook themselves! I might even try this strategy tonight Sherwinator
  11. Yeah that's a fine looking specimen mate! Nice work...
  12. Hey Raiders, Love reading all your posts... Was all set to go off the beach last night for some secret silver but the surf was pretty crazy so I decided to try one of my Jewwie spots inside the harbour (still trying to break the 1m mark like SMn ). I have been fishing for some fresh squid all week with nothing to show for it The squid seem to be rare as rocking horse poo at the moment. Anyway I had some good quality frozen squid from the shop, so I thought I would have a crack (the conditions were great last night). Got to my spot and sent my first squid out whole (snelled rig with size 4 Gamakatsu octopus hooks). Started to unpack the rest of my gear and my Saros 4000 starts singing that song that we all love to hear zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I hadn't even been there 5 mins The fish had hooked itself and after a few short runs, I had a 59cm model. Not a monster but a sight for sore eyes. It was hooked on the bottom hook (which was the squid head end). Over the next hour I got another 3 big hits and managed to miss them all! The fish would run zzzzzzzzzzzzz but every time I tried to set the hooks I lost the fish. So I tried winding the drag right back and this time let it do a massive run (3 -4 seconds) and then thumbed the spool and went to set the hooks, but lost this one also! So I wanted to ask you guys, what techniques do you use to set the hooks when targeting Jewwies? Let them run? Strike straight away? Catch details: ----------------- 1 hour and 15 minutes before high tide. Very little wind. Barometer 1030. Moon 83% Full (Waxing) ----------------- Sherwinator
  13. Nice one mate! Did you get the weight or length? The first one is always a good one Sherwinator
