  1. Hi Geoff thanks for the reply...the SE Sport hydrofoil definitely has a Sports clip (they call it) that i assume comes with bolts but you dont actually drill through the av plate to mount it...i am guessing it clamps on somehow but im not sure....the fact that my boat boggs down as yours does while trolling is the reason i hope a permatrim might help to help the boat plane at lower speeds and therefore improve economy....cheers...Paul
  2. Hi all, I have a 130 etec on a Haines 560 sf and i am trying to obtain better fuel economy while trolling for pelagics. I currently get about 0.5nm per litre which just aint doing it for me. I have raised the motor to its last hole with little effect although i am still not convinced it is high enough. Motor is throwing a bit of spray sidewards and i will get better footage of av plate while planing next time i am out. At around 3000rpm its kinda half way to being on the plane so while trolling i am constantly on the throttle to try maintain 8 knots or so. i have possibly underpowered my boat but i am still looking for that economy (the whole reason i repowered in the first place). I have been doing lots of searches about engine heights and prop choices and hydrofoils...seems most like the permatrims but is there a way to mount this without drilling holes in my new motor?. The Se300 hydrofoil has a kit to mount it without drilling but does the permatrim? I read in a post on here that they do but cant find any more info on it? I am thinking of trying one of these before experimenting with jacking plates and props etc. Any opinions / suggestions greatly appreciated..Cheers...Paul
  3. Just re-read your post we were out sat not friday like you....great to hear they are around though.....
  4. Gday ...we were out yesterday got a couple of nice dollies (double hookup) and saw a free jumping black marlin on the way in. Had to come in due to that southerly otherwise it would have went off i reckon...what time did you raise your fish and did you hang around after the southerly hit?
  5. Hi all, THanks for the responses...as you know Huey i have repowered my HH560SF with a 130Etec (unfortunately not through you) and am not happy with the fuel consumption which is partly to do with maybe i am underpowered?...As you know i am experimenting with props and was just trying to get a feel for what everyone else gets. I used to have a big old cruisecraft half cab 21 footer with 150hp yammy 4 stroke and could basically troll 10 plus hours with 3 ppl on board and still not use the whole 120l tank. My Haines is a few hundred kilos lighter with a 130 hp Etec and i am getting worse economy withonly 2 ppl on board.. I estimate about 13 L/Hr trying to maintain 7 to 9 knots trolling for pelagics up here on the Goldy. I am surprised to here Fishbones (hows it going mate i have now moved from sydney) response of 100hp on a 7.5m plate and still reasonably efficient....If he is getting 1 litre per nm @ 8 knots (approx) then correct me if i am wrong then once converted this equals roughly 8 litres per hour? Which is what i was hoping for out of my set up.Does anyone think this is achievable? Does anyone own a 5.5 to 6m boat and if so what economy do you get on average...i understand all the factors involved i am after average approximate consumption. Thanks again in advance.....Paul
  6. Hi, I am trying to find out how much fuel consumption everyone thinks is acceptable from a newish motor whether it be 2 stroke 4 stroke. and especially in the 5.5m to 6.5m (say 115hp to 250hp) range of boats while offshore trolling.I understand this is a broad question with many factors that influence fuel consumption but on an average can anyone tell me how much fuel they use? 10 litres per hour? 15? Thanks in advance for any responses...
  7. Rose bay is another option....unsure of the price....good luck
  8. great report mate and great fishing as well.....bottom bounced offshore today for a good mixed bag of about 20 fish but would swap them all for a few good kings..... couldnt get any yakkas this morning can i ask what general area you get yours? Well done again and happy fishing.......
  9. yeah gday .....pm sent also.... cheers paul
  10. Hey all what do you think of the weather for tomorrow i have read the reports and it looks like it will be ok? Tossing up whether to hit the cans or hook up the boat and chase some kings.... any experienced offshore ppl want to crew? pm me im not sure if im going yet.....paul
  11. Hey all im heading up to crescent head this weekend and have got saturday to kill as girlfriend has a function on.... wondering if by chance anyone is fishing on saturday and needs crew. All charters out of swr seem to be booked out. Experienced offshore fisho with gear and willing to cover most costs if need be to get out for a fish. PM or ring me if anyone can help or even recommend a charter that might be availible.... thanks for any help ...Paul 0412779065
  12. cheers mate i know half my problem is getting the boys out of bed in winter at 430 to make the spot by 530 and sun up.... i struggle myself these days...
  13. Hi guys just wondering where i can find some yakkas this time of year cos each time i try balmoral and other known spots all i get is small sweep and the like.....have no toubles in summer and have caught thousands in my life but where are they when the water is cold? Does anyone else have success in the harbour at this time of year?....cheers for any help.....Paul
  14. Been racking my brain trying to think of the quinnie that was more of a half cab as opposed to the cruiseabout which was more of a cuddy... was it the fishmaster? anyway i had an old fishabout and a cruiseabout (probably the favourite boat i have owned for where it got us at the time)... i would be looking for any welding that has been done that isnt from new... i had hassles with mine as once u start welding aluminium the crack just seems to keep growing so u get it welded and the same happens again....love seeing the old quinnies on the water and there is still quite a few around....good luck on the purchase ....paul
  15. Hi we fished bermi the weekend before last.... the 19 th, 20th june.... conditions were as flat as (which personally doesnt help the tuna bite)...we trolled and trolled and cubed and cubed over the two days for nothing at all bar a few bonito and a barracuda.... it was disappointing although the beers went down well..... there werent any other boats around despite the conditions which i think says something in itself..... been years since i fished bermie and montague and cant wait to give it another shot with hopefully better results..... good luck if u go....paul
