    Flathead

Its funny when i try and explain the 'thumb on the arse' technique to people who dont fish very often. They think im taking the piss outta em

    Flathead

put a glove on and put your thumb in thier mouth, hold them by thier bittom lip and support the body with your other hand. This will ensure a healthy release or dispatch to the ice box whatever your choice This is a photo of the technique....
  6. to the site maggot. When i read your post it reminded me of my first post. I wanted to know where all the big jew were in Botany Bay seeing as i had hardly fished that side of sydney. I guess in hindsight it was no surprise to find out that members were a little reluctant to assist me when on my first post i wanted them to reveal years of experience. Luckily now after a few years i feel a little more confident to ask. The spots that you mentioned should hold jew. Maybe look to your bait as a possible hinderence. As the saying goes fresh is best. Catch your own bait to assure freshness. The only bait i buy is squid; straight off the trawlers. This works awesome on Hbury jew. Try run in tide at dusk at Juno you will eventually hook one. In regard to live bait see my response to the post 'Livies' in fishing chat for pointers.... Good luck mate....lets us know when you hook your Moby Dick
  7. That would be a good joke to play on someone. Nah mate there good for nothing. I have had an asian man gratefully take one i caught. As soon as he had it in his bucket he packed his gear up and went home obviously excited about his catch. Too ugly for me to eat though....
  8. mate what choice do you have. You gotta wind the DR up when a fish is hooked or otherwise danger will robinson danger

    Livies

Mate i dont do much landbased fishing there but i have fished the area for over 20 years so i can try and assist... You mentioned Brooklyn. I do get alot of livies at the Co-op which is where all the trawlers come in and tie up. This little bay holds heaps of Herring, Tailor and Mullet. Berley up with Pilchards or Bread soaked in Tuna Oil. This will get the food chain going. This spot fires at night for bream, ocassionally flathead and the even more occasional jew. Been dusted up here many times. Also try Kangaroo Point Wharf for Herring, Tailor and sometimes Hardyheads. Day or night you find bait here. Just not at low tide. Use the same burley methods as mentioned earlier. I use a Sabiki rig here in the day but this method at night fails to work. Try fishing this spot at night for big jew. Run out tide a must. Also a big cast is needed to hit the channel which runs about 50 plus meters away. Miss the Channel miss the fish. Dont worry about no fish atm. The cold water is putting all the fish off the bite. Things will change. I find autumn a better time fish this area anyway. Hope this helps
  10. With leader i dont feel that length is a big factor. I've got kings with leaders from half a meter to 2 meters. What i feel is more important is type of leader and thickness. If the fish are shy go light, and i always use flurocarbon.
  11. well done mate. My casting arm is twitchin as we speak
  12. Man hasnt CG been firing lately??? Good stuff bro
