  1. Your name: Leo Your Location: Oatley Fishing technique: Baits, Lures or Plastics (Don't care) Availability: Weekends + Some afternoons Preferred location: Georges River (From Captain Cooks Bridge upriver) Provide your own gear? Yes Provide your own boat? Yes (12ft tinnie) Would love help catching something I can measure in centimetres, not millimetres. I have a small tinnie with a 9.9hp.
  2. Hi All. It seems this forum topic has been around for a few years and is still relevant. A workshop or 2 on fishing techniques and collecting bait (nippers, mullet, etc) for the newbies would be great. It would take a few of the experienced anglers to offer some time, but believe there would be a good response. I am tired of going out to feed the fish. I would rather catch some.
  3. Need Help!. Just bought a new humminbird sounder, entry level. Never had one before and never used one before. Set it up as describe and it works. Now the issue. At low speed, up 5-6 knots, I get a signal, see the bottom and bits and pieces. As soon as I go a bit faster, there is a break in the signal and I get a fuzzy image the whole height of the screen. If I slow back down all is fine. Is this normal? Is this how they work, only at low speeds? or is there a problem with my transducer. I notice at higher speeds, 10-12 knots, I get a spray of water coming up form the transducer. Normal? You help and advice would be appreciated. LueLessLeo
  4. Oh Wise Anglers. Want to fish for squid and was told there are heaps in the Yarra Bay area. Could someone be more specific? Can you launch at Yarra bay or do you need to use the one near the container terminal. Will put up some pics if I land any. Thanks
  5. Landbased. Well? Been out yet? Overcome the fears of the first time out? Bet you had a ball and the sun came down too quick. Let us know how you managed.
  6. Guys. Came across aheap of these carbs at sandringham sand flats. Not sure what they are. Can someone help? Are they any good for bait? If so, to target what and where? Thanks
  7. Offchops. Hard to give advice when some of the details are missing. How big is the trailer, how big is the boat going on it and what style is it? There are acouple of setups for trailers. Even some of the main boating places have these parts.
  8. HOOKY HOOKY Looks like I might be able to come down on Sunday if the weather holds out. My Wife and the 2 kids fish also, so the 4 of us should give those carp a bit of a run for their money. My question is what type and size hook is the best to use. I hear they have fussy mouths and spit out hooks when they feel the point. Is a circle hook the best? If not, what and what size? Appreciate the advice and looking forward to putting faces to names.
  9. I STAND CORRECTED! Though it still stands that it is illegal to stock carp into streams, rivers or lakes in NSW and there are fines of up to $11,000
  10. Landbased. Brickman is right. Do the time and make the effort before you leave the house. The first time I put a boat in I was so worried about impressing the missus, I forgot to screw in the bung and had to yank the boat back out and let it drain. I now have a spare bung attached to the boat and do the main bung up before I leave home. Put the muffs on before you leave and turn it over. You dont want to be out there, flood the engine and not get the thing started. It's best to stuff up in the privacy of your own place. The only other piece of advice is to find a good ramp, and go out the first few times in off-peak times. You don't want to hold people up. Fishos are great but impatient on the ramps. Lock the trailer to the car. You want it when you get back and go out and have fun. LureLessLeo
  11. Hey Landbased. Had any luck finding someone to help you out? What sort of boat and how big? I have had some time around the bay in smaller boats if that helps. Let me know. LureLessLeo
  12. I hear they go wild for CORN KERNELLS. A couple of kernells on a hook and float it out to them. Some say that bread is the other bait they like. Did you know it is illegal to release any carp you catch in NSW. They have to be killed. Enjoy.
  13. NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!! Am trying to take the kids out in the afternoon to drop a line in. We put the tinnie in at Oatley and dont have a lot of time before the sun goes down. It has been disheartening as we are not having much success. If someone has a point or two that we might have some success. Nav markers or GPS marks would be great. Not after your secret locations, just a spot or 2 for the kids to get a bite. You thoughts, locations and comments most welcome. Leo
