  1. An enjoyable weekend with 9 other keen eaters and occasional fishers on a houseboat at Waratah. We got 6 hairtail (not sure how they got past the other 30 boats to reach us?) and a dozen Salmon during the day. A great way to fish the Hawkesbury in winter and a trip we all look fwd to every year.
  2. Still waiting on the salmon shot
  3. Hit the Hawkesbury/Brocken Bay again sat/sat night and picked up both salmon and my first hairtail. The photos were taken on someone elses camera so have to wait.
  4. Went out tue and found some surface sippers we ended up with 5 for the morning. They were very small schools and very timid. They were prob hammered over the whole long weekend. Hopefully this means the action is going to start soon?
  5. Had an enjoyable but quiet day on the Harb. Had a king bust off a mate and a couple of nice tailor. The real fun was finding a school of frigates that just slashed around us and while busting up around our poppers and following our sluggo's they just wouldnt bite anything If you want to drive yourself mad try Sugar Loaf bay
  6. Its not the tackle store owner. In some cases they are getting the goods from the distributor at the same price some are getting them on the net? Also advice and assistance costs! This is a classic A friend who works in a tackle store gets a phone call from a guy asking about the pros and cons of a particular rod. After talking for a few minutes the guy tells the tackle store guy he is at a certain chain store tackle place with the rod in his hand :-? The friend asks him why the hell he is talking to him and not the people there? He replies they don't know about the rod and cant answer his questions. Needless to say the friend tells him if he wants help he can come and buy the rod off him otherwise :x - his time is money. The guy actually got indignant and couldn't understand the friends attitude and said he wouldn't shop at his store again, as the friend said to him, your not shopping here now! Are people really this brazen Between net buyers and this type of thing it will not be long before we don't have tackle stores that can prov the knowledge we need. We will only have ourselves to blame.
  7. I have to admit I am not a big fan of this type of regulation. First reason is that it becomes a one size fits all and while i agree that there are times you should wear your jacket for the majority it isn't required BUT you cant put that in the regulations and so it will end up you have to have it on all the time regardless of circumstances. Second it becomes another regulation that requires enforcement and takes officers and money away from better uses of their time like illegal fishing. It is our responsibility as the skipper to do what is safe and be responsible for our own actions.
  8. Rcd this by email. NSW Maritime ********************************************************************* You Can Help Make Boating Safer --------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Tony A total of 174 lives have been lost in boating incidents in NSW over the last 10 years. More than half those fatalities resulted from a person falling overboard or a vessel capsizing. In the interest of improved safety, NSW Maritime is seeking comment on proposals to change lifejacket rules. Should there be new categories for compulsory wearing of lifejackets aimed at recreational boaters in situations of heightened risk, especially children and boaters in tinnies? NSW Maritime recognises that not all boating activity has a similar risk. The idea is not to make the wearing of lifejackets compulsory at all times, or to take the fun out of boating. However, boating should be enjoyable and safe and if there is an accident a lifejacket can dramatically increase your chance of survival. Your views and feedback on this important safety issue will be most appreciated. To read the discussion paper and fill out an online survey, please go to http://maritimessurvey.optin.com.au/a?2ok6...1667189.003.002 This survey takes about five minutes to complete and is anonymous. There is an option to leave your basic contact details if you choose to do so, and this will put you into the running to win one of 10 free inflatable lifejackets. The deadline for comment is Friday 8 January 2010. Safe boating, Neil Patchett Communications Manager communications@maritime.nsw.gov.au
  9. Anyone know a guide in Bris Vegas? Looking for either a sportsfish or fly, maybe even bass at one of the dams? PM me so as not to cause any issues.
  10. Gents, You have to get them right on first light and before the hordes of boats put them off (good luck with that). We got our hits and fish between 530 and 6 and not another touch after.
  11. There are salmon feeding on the surface round north head. They are VERY flighty and VERY fussy. Got 2 this morn and dropped 2 more but once the sun was well up and the hordes arrived they just dived away or ignored everything
