  5. I bought a 2601 striper over last year, i used portsea marine in melbourne and they arranged all my cleaning and shrink wrapping in florida, they have a partner in florida who took care of that aswell as built me a aus spec alloy trailer, so they really ensure everything is done right, and yes if any part of your tow rig is over 2.5m then a wide load permit will be required, 2301-2601 are 2.59m beam, the boat will be called HINDSIGHT so come and say hi if anyone sees me at the ramp...

    Which Weather

look at seabreeze and BOM and average them out, BOM always eers on the side of caution by adding a few knots of wind and a foot or 2 onto the seas so keep that in mind... Except in the case of westerlies IE N/W, S/W or a straight westerly, seabreeze almost always gets it wrong, i remember one trip very wide of JB where the forecast was 10kn W when it blew up to 26KN, took 4hrs of punching straight into it to get home, although BOM's forecast was dead on.... Also just to make things more confusing keep in mind if the current is running against the wind, the seas will stand up alot higher than the forecast seas....

    Furuno Upgrade

I am currently running a furuno 585 with a 1kw transom mount transducer, it is an excellent package for game fishing and anything upto 250fathoms although it just isnt cutting it in deep water bottom fishing applications, does anyone use a FCV295 in either 2 or 3kw? or another brand of unit in 2 or 3kw?
  11. I think its ridiculous, the bag limits are exactly the same if using a electric, the amount of hooks per line are the same, so why ban them? some people will say using an electric is not sporting, but the whole point of deep water bottom fishing is to simply put fillets on the table, isnt that the principle of fishing in its most basic form... Some will say its not traditional but neither are colour digital sounders, no stretch braided lines etc... Now also what will define an electric reel, what about electric downriggers or teaser reels? if the DPI has a problem with current fish stocks maybe they should carry out more inspections and introduce harsher fines for people who exceed the bag limits... if they did random checks at browns more often they would nail plenty of offenders....
  12. I need 2 more crew for marlin fishing saturday, we will be leaving woollamia ramp around 7am, must be able to throw in for fuel usually around $50 pm me or call on 0411155313
  13. need crew for friday, saturday n sunday this weekend, no gear needed, must know way around boat and can throw in for fuel, let me know if you wanna join me on either of the three days.... pm me before wednesday or call on 0411155313... cheers
  14. Heres some info on the elecric reel ban that i beleive is totally hiporcritical, Basically power assisted reels will be banned unless you have a disability... I agree electric reels are not traditional but neither are digital sounders, or high tech whaling boats, or 99% of commercial fishing practices... Is krudd gonna offer a buy back like j howard did with the rifles? everyone bring this up at your next club meeting and send off emails in distgust... Advisory Council on Recreational Fishing Outcomes from Meeting 47 – Tuesday 25 August 2009 Cronulla Fisheries Centre Attendance Bruce Schumacher (Chair), Kevin McKinnon, Neil Ryan, Charlie Howe, Sanchia Glaskin, Max Castle, John Clarke, Ann Garard, John Humphries, Adrian Wayne, Ron Croker, Claudette Rechtorik, Jan McLeod, John Drew 10. Electric reels Electric fishing reels are generally used when targeting deep water fish species such as gemfish, blue-eye trevalla (blue-eye cod), hapuku, banded rock cod (bar cod) and bass groper. Electrical reels appear to be increasing in availability and popularity. The current bag and size limits were developed based on traditional harvest methods of deck/hand winches. The bag and size limits are currently 5 deep sea fish in total, only 2 gemfish, and a boat trip limit of 10 gemfish. With such limits in place, deep water species can also be prone to high grading. They also are unlikely to survive any catch and release practices. I&I NSW is becoming increasingly concerned about the current escalating investment and use of electric reels for fishing in NSW and potential impacts on deep sea fisheries resources. The majority of council members considered the use of electric reels was not a, traditional, acceptable form of recreational fishing and therefore, the use of powered/electric reels should be restricted. Note: Electric reels are often necessary to allow people with disabilities to fish successfully. It is considered that the use of electric reels by people with disabilities is acceptable. Electric reels are also commonly used by charter boat operators but are already heavily restricted by the boat limit of 10 gemfish. Motion: The council supports the banning of electric reels, subject to a permit system for acceptable use (e.g. to assist disabled fishers). The council recommends that the ban be implemented during the next review of bag and size limits and that the Minister consider issuing an investment warning in the near future to advise the recreational fishing sector of this position. Moved: Charlie Howe. Seconded: John Drew. Carried. (Against: John Humphries, Ann Garard, Neil Ryan). Here's a link to the entire meeting. Makes for some interesting reading as well... http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pd...21/ACoRF-47.pdf
