  1. Thanks for that, I was just a bit unsure how to anchor down current but fish the eddie which will then be up current form where I am anchored. Thanks again, Bill
  2. Hey guys, I have decided to have a crack at catching a jewie over the next few months. Could you please let me know which side of a bridge pylon I should fish. For example should I fish the behind the pylon with the tide coming towards me or should I be floating my baits back toward the pylon with the current? Thanks for e help, Bill
  3. Hey guys, After reading this topic I have decided to have a crack at catching a jewie. Could you please let me know which side of a bridge pylon I should fish. 4. Raiders, After reading several reports over the past couple of weeks about the success of down rigging for Kingfish in the bay I thought it was time to get aboard the down rigging train. I read a post about a home made downrigger so off I went and bought myself a 3lb bomb, some thin gauge rope and a release clip (Poor mans downrigger). Anyway my plan is to go out tomorrow morning round up some yakkas and possibly a squid or two. (I’m useless at catching squid so will probably just end up with the yakkas) and down rig around the container wall and red markers. Questions: What speed should I be travelling when down rigging? What depth should I be fishing? How do I rig a yakka for down rigging (I was think single hook through the nose???) Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Quinnie 480.
  5. Mate there are plenty of good spots in that section of the Georges, try flicking SP's at the boats moored around picnic point, I have caught some cracker bream there. Just up from alfreds point bridge is a place called the moons, plenty of bream and flathead around there. Just remember fish love structure, if you're using fresh bait or SP's you can't go wrong. Good luck, Bill
  6. Ahh so thats why I have never caught a jewie out of my boat, I'll have to remember to turn my finder off the next time im fishing for them...
  7. Yes it is, I should say at the Lugarno seafood end of the moons. My bad.
  8. There is a small weed bed which runs along the channel on the Oatley side of the moons. Throw into the channel and work your plastic up towards the weed bed, most of my hook-ups are fairly close to the weed so make sure you work you plastic all the way up to the edge. Cheers, Bill
  9. Raiders, Fished the moons this afternoon 27/10/08 on the run out, lost a 45cm flathead at the boat and landed a 50cm flathead my biggest on SP's. Got both stikes whilst drifting along the edge of the weed beds in the moons. Great little session, can't wait to head out again and improve on my SP PB. Thanks, Bill
  10. The Humminbird has a higher pixel count and therefore produces a higher quality picture, I find this helps with bottom recognition and allows be to determine structure better as mariner mentioned. The Humminbird also has a built in resolution map of Australia waters and this allows for a better quality map when you're not utilising a navionics chart. Bad news, I've been told all Humminbird and Lowrance finders/combos will be having a price increase very shortly, between 10-15%. I think you'll find that Lowrance 527CiDF has been sold out at a lot of places but if you order one you might still be able to get it at the old price. Mate the best thing to do would be go into a shop and have a play around with both the Lowrance and Humminbird and find the one that suits you best. I find the Humminbird to be a better quality product and has always worked better for me but that is just my personal opinion. I'm sure many people on this site would prefer the lowrance brand. Anyways mate I hope this helps, Bill
  11. Thanks for the tips guys, I'm heading out on Friday so I'll probably try and jig up some kingies and maybe find some flathead grounds on my way back to the bay. I'll post a report on Friday arvo, just in time for the weekend fishos..! cheers, Bill.
  12. Thanks for the replies. I have the luxury of being a shift worker and do the majority of my fishing mid week no lines at the boat ramp that way..!
  13. Hey Raiders, This is my first post so hello to you all..! I have done the majority of my fishing down the south coast and only of late have a began to fish the Georges and Hacking systems. I have just bought and installed a GPS and was hoping to head outside to the peak off Botany later next week. Just after a bit of advice and was hoping someone could help me out in regards to which fishing techniques I should try. Eg: jigging, trolling, drifting ect. I was planning to troll for a little bit when I get out there and then cube up some pillies?? Has anyone been out there of late? What can I expect out there? Any advice would be much appreciated, Thanks, Bill
  14. Hey mate, I have a 5m freedom sport and have just installed a Humminbird 787c2i, its a colour combo and I'd have to say its probably the best thing I could have done. I have always been a fan of the humminbird product and I think it is a quality product. I paid just over $1000 but in my opinion it was well worth the cash. An alternative to this is the Lowrance 527CiDF which sell for around the $900 mark and is also a colour combo. I have owned a couple of Lowrance products and have not really had a problem with them I just prefer the humminbird but each to their own I guess. Anyways mate I hope this helps, Bill.
