  1. You might want to give sugar loaf bay a crack early evening on the run in tide. there are a few deep holes to 18mtrs that produce good size jewfish. I spend a bit of time over the wreck at Quakers for Kingies but no luck of late. any tips would be great.
  2. Hey guys i hear you folks mentioning the colours and the sticks?? what are these? i'm guessing areas for fishing?? can any one shed some light on this for me? Thanks
  3. Thanks boys!! your right pilchard much have been a slimy!!
  4. Hey Guys. Went out Sunday morning from tunks park boat ramp at day break. Didn't have to travel far to get to the spot where i have seen kings caught. Saw one of the regulars there trying his luck at getting some yakkas. So i joined him with my hand line tried for about 20 mins no luck for the yakkas they did'nt want it. Had my frozen pillies and squid as back up if i needed it. Tried a bit longer and landed a tailor which i promptly hooked up and put him over the side and went back to trying to get some more of them with my hand line. Not more than 5 mins passed when i look over and see the rod fold over and hear that beautiful sound that every fisho likes to hear bzzzzzzzz screams the real. Line starts to race out i grab hold and start to try and get line back. Everytime i thought i was getting line back he would dive and take even more out this went on for what seemed like forever but in reality only lasted about 3-4mins. I was starting to win the battle only to find the bugger got himself tangled on my anchor rope and i was pulling it up as well. Now i want you to try and picture this your on the boat alone rod in one hand net in the other kingy thrashing around on surface tangled on your anchor rope now i had a dilema. Tried to net him but rope was in the way so after what seemed forever i threw net down dropped rod grabed anchor rope with 1 hand and trace with other and hauled bothe anchor and fish aboard. Now that was interesting to say the least. But fun none the less as i finally got my first legal kingy!!
  5. Hi Mako Thanks for the info very much appreciated. I can tell you that you were all correct. No king fish at night plenty of tailor feeding during the full moon and a few bream. But come day break the king fish decided to come out and play. The tailor disapeared i had 2 rods set up with live tailor as bait and was fishing a small light rod with a small hook for bream when the king fish struck. Only problem was that he struck my light gear rod which was not equiped with enough line or strong enough to hold on to him. After a 30 second strugle to gain some line back and some good deep runs from him. The dreaded Ping! and up comes my line minus the 2/0 hook. Was cursing for at least 20 minutes after that. To top it all off my motor would not fire after cranking a few minutes batery was dead and so was i in the water. All this with a tsunami warning on the radio to boot. Thanks to the boys from marine resue i was able to return back to the ramp and go home swearing i will never try for kingys at night again!!
  6. Thanks fpor that Hooked up appreciate the feedback. Hopefully with the full moon on tonight i might have some luck.Either way i'll be there till day break maybe then i'll get some either way i'll post and let you know what happens.
  7. Hi Fellow raiders. Thinking about going out tonight at my usual in shore reef spot it's almost full moon now and temp seems to be good for a fish. Only ever caught one kingy before and was wondering if you can catch them at night?? Would appreciate any tips on where to catch yakkas and squid around the spit bridge area. Thanks
  8. Thank you i will try that out and see how i go.
  9. Hi Fellow raiders. I have recently discovered a reef area in middle harbour that holds some kings. I have only fished it twice without much luck. I have managed to watch a boat or 2 near me pull up a king or two. My question is if i'm launching from tunks park at cammeray and fishing middle harbour where can i go to catch squid and yellow tails? As i have only been using frozen squid and pilchards to date with out much luck. Surely if i present them with frsher and live bait i may have a better chance at landing my first kingfish. So any advice would be greatly appreciated as to where i could possibly go and catch this bait.
  10. Thank you! Have done a fair bit of reading over the last few weeks. Great source of info here. Looking forward to posting some great catches. Thanks for the advice Dan much appreciated.
  11. I'm new to this kingfishing. I have gone out and got all the right gear and rods and have the boat too. All i need now is someone to tell me where i should go looking for them in the harbour?? Also i hear a lot of you guys talking about "Yakkas" i guess thats yellowtail? i hear it's good bait for kingys. Any tips on where i should go to catch these Yakkas?? or squids for that matter. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
