  1. Nice one, still trying for my first EP, congrats
  2. Nice effort, it wasn't until my mid 20's did I get a nice schoolie like that awesome effort, he'll be hauling in monsters in no time. I'm taking my 8yr old nephew fishing today hopefully put him onto a Flatty it will be his first fish if we are lucky enough, hopefully we don't get any tangles lol.
  3. G'day all went for another Bass session yesterday 25/09/13 in the upper reaches of the Hastings we got 8 fish for 3hrs with my personal best Bass to Date of 440mm. As this system is new to me we have been doing a little exploring and found some really nice water no more than 10min away which makes it very easy to access. Even though I have a canoe I am now looking at getting a couple of Kayaks which I believe will be easier to handle up and down rapids and in tight water ways. Has anyone got any reviews on those cheap kayaks shown on the idiot box? any info would be appreciated. Tight lines Stu
  4. G'day all, me and my mate bruiser hit the Macleay Sunday for our first Bass fish of the season and didn't do to bad. We got on the river about 3:30pm with the idea of throwing around some hard bodies though the afternoon and then switching to surface poppers as night came on. My mate Bruiser was using bib-less minnows and fishing the deeper water while I concentrated on using a shallow diving bibbed Atomic in Black casting at the bank. We started off fishing the lower reaches with the first 2 fish caught around the 220mm mark, the next fish was slightly better and went 330mm, we had a couple more 300's and then decided to head up river. Further up the river Bruiser gets a nice healthy fish of 380mm and then we got a few more in the 300's again. As night came on we switched to surface poppers (black Jitter bugs) and caught a few more in the 300's. In total we got around 12 fish for the afternoon, you start to loose count after a while. All fish were released, as we chase the little buggers for sport only. Here's Bruiser with his 380mm Girl Tight lines all Stu
  5. G'day All, its been a little while since I've been fishing but yesterday arvo 07/08/2013 I got a call from a mate who wanted to go chase a jewie. We looked at the tides and weather forecast and well what do you know It was perfect. Started off putting the boat in at around 3:00pm on almost dead low tide with the idea of going and getting some mullet for our session. Catching the mullet was a no go, we tried everything and used a whole loaf of bread for burley, the sun was going down and we were thinking oh no this ain't good no bait, when just on dark my mate bruiser caught 3 river gar consecutively and there were high fives like we had won lotto. We went to our spot and set up at around 7:00pm and it was agreed that we would wait and have a feed and chat till around 8:45pm an hour before high tide as we only had 3 gar. After sitting around for an hour twiddling our thumbs we thought ahh stuff it lets send them out so out they went at 8:00pm instead hoping not to get breamed. At around 8:45pm when we were going to set the baits out and just as a party boat was going by Bruisers rod goes off with a screaming run of at least 100m, after about a 10 min tussle here comes the colour WOW a nice sizeable Jew well over 20kgs, so I get the gaff ready and it takes another run with a head shake and spits the hooks, dam it we said that was a nice fish. Mean while my 1 bait is still out there swimming around and as happy as a pig in mud, I say to bruiser mate we are still in with a chance you got 1 more bait and we havn't even got to the premium time yet, so he rigs it up an sends it out. Just before the top of the tide Bruisers rod gets another run but nothing like the first with no insta hook up, he winds in and all that is left is a gar head. Oh well hes says and packs up his gear and lies down. I said to Bruiser, mate we'll wait to the boat starts to swing around and we'll call it a night, I said I don't even know if have a bait on but I don't want to wind it in we'll just wait it out. As im sitting there with my eyes fixed to the glow stick stuck to the tip of my rod the boat starts to swing a little and im thinking either way its been a good night with a little bit of action i'll have a ciggy and then i'll wind it in, I turn to bruiser and say ok mate we'll call it a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz im on and this is a good fish, im fishing 20kg braid with around 5kilo of drag and this thing is heading up stream at a high rate of knots, Bruiser says to me as he allways does when I hook a solid fish 'hey those bream fight hard don't they' which isn't a bad thing to say as it makes you laugh and calm down a little. I then settle in for the fight and around 15min later here she comes a nice big silver slab, Bruiser sinks the gaff in behind the gills and a bit of a yeeehaaa and a hand shake and this baby is boated, it measured 1.39m and weighed on the Berkley digital scales at exactly 26kg a little bit bigger than the last one I got making it my new PB Jew. Hope you all enjoyed the read tight lines all Stu P.S I have included a knife (and its a Berkely Knife) in the photo and would like to enter it into Sept Catch of the month, Please vote this is my third or fourth Attempt lol
  6. LOL I would of grabbed those Camo ones they work pretty darn good too. Yep they do, we often get jew on them in the river and outside while chasing reds. We get our reds all year round its just the depth that varies lol, when the water cools a bit which it is now they come in close and in numbers, heard a whisper the other day that a couple of guys got a dozen or so, fingers crossed for good sea's.
  7. Great Vid guys, its a lotta fun chucking plastics for snapper, and those nuclear chicken nemises are our favourites as well, although it has been a little quite up here lately and we are still waiting for them to come on properly. Great work!!
  8. yeah it is open atm, but not flowing very hard its quit shallow, but a change in the water chemistry is sure to set off some environmental ques to get fish congregating at the entrance. give it ago and report back with your results. i'd be surprised if you didnt score something.
  9. north side of the rail bridge has a nice hole where mooney meets the main river, best when its in flood.
  10. That stuff in the blue box is probably the best frozen squid you could get, i personally havnt caugth any large jew on it but small ones yes, i have caught some big bream on them while chasing jew, the charter guys up here in port use them for bottom bouncing and do really well, so if you were going to buy frozen squid that would be a good choice.
  11. even small jew have bloody big mouths 9/0's are standard in our kit, 15kg will pull up some large fish my mate uses 7kg the fight just lasts a little longer lol
  12. lake cathie is going well atm plenty of flatties and bream i even heard of a soapie being caught, best bet would be to fish the beach for a decent jew there have been quite a few being caught lately and the mouth of lake Cathie would be a pretty good place to look, hint use large worm baits for the jew.
  13. If your in a boat you could try flint and steel just out of brooklyn 1/2 hour either side of the high tide, 3 1/4 moon and southerly is best and really fresh bait like tailor or squid, other places down there that we have always got a schoolie is anywhere in cowan creek like akuna bay just walk up the bank and try to find somewhere where this is a prominent outcrop where you will get an eddie, and last but not least be patient thats why we call it fishing not catching.
  14. Thanks for all the kind replies, i will be sure to post more reports in the very near future, but cant fish for the next week as im down here in Sydney doing a job out at south windsor and left the fishing gear at home. I think in about 2 weeks with a bit more moon we might just give it another crack as im after the 1 that absolutly smoked me on 15kg about a month ago. I tell you all how round 3 goes ding ding ding
  15. Hi all, went chasing jew on friday night with some success. Started off chasing some live bait which was a bit hard to come by managed 4 poddy mullet and 1 taylor in about an hour and a half as the sun was going down. Got to the spot and anchored up for the patience game. The goal was to be at the spot and fish an hour either side of the high tide at 9pm. We had done the same thing about 1 month ago where i was towled up by a very large jew stripping at least 150m of 15kg braid on its 1st run in what seemed like 2 sec's and on the second run it popped me with its tell tale head shakes as it went, So this time it was round 2. The night was slow with very little surface activity and very dark with no moon and after waiting for what seemed like a very long 3.5hrs and right at the top of the tide one of the poddy mullet started to get a little excited. I picked up the rod and let what ever it was mouth it for a minute before it started to run off with the bait firmly down its throat then i struck. At first it didnt realise it was hooked and seemed like a mediocre fish until it saw the boat and off it went, after about a 10-15min battle on 15kg braid it was on board, a nice and healthy 128cm and around 20kg river jew. We stayed for about an hour after this fish but there was no other action to be seen.
