  1. Sounds like you had fun out at Newport. In the past few months have seen 1 or 2 sharks at Newport nearly every trip, not suprising they would be there with that dead whale.
  2. Always good to see the little ones having fun & bringing home dinner!
  3. Yeah it was his PB, and also the first time he had ever caught a king!! great to have it happen on our own boat.
  4. Hi All, Headed out to Newport again yesterday for the 3rd saturday in a row, hoping to do better than last week and find the kings ( no kings last week). We had a 10 yr old kid on board and after filling up our live bait tank with yakkas he was ready to try catch his first king. We got to Newport, good swell just a little bit of a wind around & some good soundings coming from the sounder so we decided to drift. Live yakkas go out and surprise surprise guess whos rod goes off first, yep the youngest one on board, landed at 62cm king, his first ever! Took some photos and back in the water to fight another day, out goes another yakka and yep you guessed it, his rod goes off again.. Five of us on board and only he is getting into the action. Kept doing the same drift and finally I get a good hit and bring up a 64cm king, back in the water he goes. We were slowly running out of yakkas as we all kept pullin in rats. After a few hours the kids rod goes off, this time its a good fish and the rod had to be handed over to land it as it was a little too much for him. After a joint effort a 78cm king is on board!! High fives all round. Got a little jealous as I had been out all these weeks trying but at the same time happy that someone had got a good fish. Down to one of the last live yakkas and the poor little guy kept getting attacked but no hook ups. I had a small led on the live bait rig so even though he was now a dead bait I put it down again and my rod went off, tighten the drag a little and let him run and after a good fight I bring up another quality king, 78cm aswell. Very happy as this is my PB and only the 2nd legal king ever. So to sum it up, great day out on the water, very very hot and a lesson learnt, we ran out of cold drinks ( had to use of 15L spring water on board the boat). Normally we take more than enough and always bring some back home, but with the very hot weather yesterday we were all out, luckly company on board had some spare. So from now on, hot or not there will be plenty of water and soft drinks on board. 2 good leagal kings and a bonnie to take home, everyone happy and some good eating and drinking to come. Cant wait till next weekend again to get out there. Thanks Em
  5. Wish I knew yesterdy to wack him on the head, would have saved me the day cleaning out the boat today!! Gonna have to get in and scrub every inch of the boat.. I will be cooking him up tonight . yummy
  6. Hi All, so I left the best post untill last. Headed out to west head to pick up some livies, not alot of yakas but enougth. Then headed out to Newport reef where I landed my moie. We were fishing for kingies with the yakas, no sign of them but we kept drifting. Dan (allfisher) saw a shark and his rod beny over. Since we were fishing for kings there was no chance our gear was gonna pull in a shark and like that he has cut off the line. Not happy!! We started to burley up and put a wire chase out, no action for over 2 hours so time to head back in. For some reason Dan decided to stop at The Valiant. Pick up a yellow tail with a kingie following it so out went of live yakas again. After a few drifts and nothing, I saw a shark and you guessed it, no wire chase out AGAIN and down goes my rod surly not gonna pull this guy in. After 20 mins of fighting and chasing him with the boat I managed to get him to the boat. Having never landed a shark before we had NO IDEA how to handle this, all I knew is that I wanted to get this thing on the boat and I did not care how we did it.after 10 or so mins trying to gaff him Dan finally did and I helped pull him on the boat. Then came the realisation of what just happened. Not only did I just catch and land my biggest fish to date (and biggest catch for both Dan and I) we also had to deal with a very angry shark that did not want to be out of water!! We handled the suituation and now a very bloody boat for me to clean. I got him on my Texxy rod with my Twin Power reel on 3o pound braid and 80 pound leader!! Lucky for me I hooked him in the eye so he didnt have a chance to cut me off. Also lucky for me that my knot held up to the challenge. He went 170cm and 27kg!! Now the fun begins tomorrow with cleaning the fish as well as the boat as Im too tired to do anything. A well deserved couple of beers now and some dinner. Enjoy the pics Em Does anyone know if this is a fishraider record?? nd how do I submit it?
  7. I was fishing off Newport reef
  8. Hi Guys, Went out today, caught this moie in 15m of watear on my light gear again on a taylor strip
  9. Hi Guys, I know allfisher, my partner has already done a post on this but I was to say how i caught them. The first one was on my Texxy rod and my first big bonnie caught on a live yakka. The other was caught on the troll and then after catching rat kings all day I decided to have fun and catch a bonnie on live bait on my light gear.. Its great when the gals outfish the guys! Thanks Em
  10. Hi all, been meaning to do this for a while. Atlantic salmon is beautiful this way but so is the australian salmon which I hear mosy people don`t take home. Well give this a go next time you catch one and you might change your mind. Ok So you need sweet chilli sauce 2 TBS Ketjap manis (sweet soy sauce) 2TBS lime juice ( just a half) fresh coriander a few of the top leaves pepper water chestnuts ice burge lettuse Ok so dice up your salmon, either one amd remove all the bones. Mix all of ingredients (to your liking, more chilli or more ketjap manis, just taste it) in a mixing mug . Pour over your salmon and put in fridge for about 20-30mins. Cook in frying pan and then serve in lettuce leave cups. Enjoy, let me know what you think Thanks Emi\
