  1. Guys, i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. My father in law has searay bowrider with a mecruiser ( inbuilt ) engine, a couple of years ago water got into the cylinders and the engine seized. Father in law sent boat away and the manifolds/risers were re done costing almost $ 4k. The bloke from sea ray mentioned ( not the guy who fixed it ) that because these boats are raw water cooled ( meaning water is sucked in from the sea to cool the engine ) they corrode easily , he said these boats are meant for freshwater not saltwater and , this problem will occur every 3-4 years Well, it's been 4 years, and although we flush her with saltaway, I need someone to inspect risers/manifolds before water get to it. ( much cheaper if we find the problem now ) I really need your help as i've turned her into a fishing boat and it's really warming up now Can anyone please pm me or if allowed , recommend a good honest boat mechanic ? Had our fair share of bad mechanics.. The guy who replaced the old ones did a really bad job and the engine seized again, only after threatening them with dept of fair trading did he do a proper job!
  2. Why don't we set up volunteer fisheries for NSW FISHERIES ? Kind of like a neigbourhood watch ? How many times do you see people doing illegal things and wish there was an inspector around ? These days with camera phones and all it would be easy to snap someone doing the wrong thing. Fisheries could give experienced volunteers ( 2 YEARS ) the authority to inspect catches and take evidence, then hand it over to authorised inspectors to determine the outcome. Problem it's to hard to police! How many fisheries inspectors are there in Sydney as opposed to the thousands of fishos doing illegal things? I reckon for every 1 inspector there are 70 fisherman at least. Bit hard getting around to them all. Anyone keen on putting a proposal together for fisheries pm me, it might work hehe Archilles2
  3. Alan it was split decision down to the count we turned right instead of left at the mobile station hehe
  4. Ahoy, Tried a couple of spots in the hacking last night, 1st spot no good, second spot bang 4 in the space of 5 minutes then it got a little quiet so we packed up and went home as it was getting late. I'll try post my pic. Ahoy, Archilles2

  6. Hey all, The gang and I are rebuilding our boat and want to know what depth sounder we should be looking for when jigging for kings, fishing for snapper etc offshore ? We're all chipping in to get a good one, but want to be able to easily recognise kings/snapper on the sounder. Could anyone recommend something ? Thanks raiders, Archilles2
  7. thanks for the reply Chris, has anyone else found it beneficial ? Please share your story Cheers, Archilles2
  8. Hey reaiders, a guy once told me that if you catch squid the best way to keep them fresh is to pop them in a zip lock bag and seal it then once you get home poor contents with all the ink into a vacuum sealed bag. I know ink is great for kings but can't confirm if it's good for jewwies too ? I caught some and popped them in the zip lock bags but by the time i got home they were covered in their own ink ... Question being is this okay for jewwies ?
  9. Well done Mrs Swordie, Stewwie is a real hero. Inspirational story, very inspirational. Get well. Archilles2
  10. Some lovely kings there man! Can you give me any advice , i'm thinking of doing a harbour run around the wedding cakes or just past the heads good idea ? Great catches indeed!!!!
  11. Hey all, I've fished afew wharves and have noticed many do not have bins, I always try to take my rubbish home, but i think it would be great if local councils could place bins on the wharfs for fisherman, commuters, and people coming off boats as well. Hopefully it would encourage other people to throw rubbish in the bin.
  12. hehe thanks for the replies raiders might try those spots, and sussing it out with a scoop net first isn't a bad idea either!
  13. jokes aside I still have a prawning fever lol , could anyone recommend any safer spots ? Pm me if you like.
