  1. a frigate.. is that patonga camping grounds mate?? very nice place! cheers
  2. g'day, i was night fishing with average sized poddy mullet and these things wouldnt stop eating them, i couldnt find any in my fish id books either..sorry about the poor quality photos, they were taken on a phone. cheers,
  3. i have 3 sustains a 2000FB, a 4000FB, and a 4000FD and they are all great reels and the fb's have performed flawlessly for years. i havent useed the newer models but im sure they are just as good dispite being made in taiwan or malasia as opposed to japan (im not sure if the jap models are better quality but i tend to stick to them)
  4. I have 2 setups . 1. snyder glas MT144 8W with a penn spinfisher 950ssm and 30 - 50 lb braid 2. wilson FSU 4120 "overhead" matched to a shimano speedmaster and 30 lb mono also had a really nice live fibre 6-8kg stick and a shimano baitrunner 4500 but my old mad closed the car window on the blank and crushed it .. o and also an alvey 650

    3 Easy Ones

i have caught lots of those wrasse off catherine hill bay or mabe simillar ones, i was told that they were maori wrasse and arent to good eating so i have allways released them ..but im not sure. other one is DEFINATLY a fortescue. i know this because i received about 10 puncture wounds from one while sorting through a prawn net resulting in severe pain and a horrible sweatty fever-like feeling. i hate them with a passion
  6. thats a herring, we use a lot of them for our lizards

    Harbour Shark

mate i have caught about 200 of these strange sharks once when they must have been in plauge propautions in the bay at patonga/broken bay.. i think blind sharks
  8. G'day raiders, after some help on the species of fish used to make sushi and/or sashimi...
  9. how do you get these catalogues?? are they free?
  10. mostly casting baits for salmon, tailor, jew and kings.. i have an old calcutta 400 i have had for years and i can manage pretty long casts from that just after something a little bigger to get larger baits out .
  11. g'day raiders just after some advice on overhead reels for distance casting (beach or rockhopping) and the pro's and con's of having a non-levelwind setup...... I usually use spin gear for such fishing but an old bloke was telling me non-levelwind overheads are better for distance and more comfortable when fighting bigger fish??? any advice would be appreciated as i am looking into buying a calcutta 700 (without the levelwind) off a mate and i dont want to buy it if it wont suit the style of fishing im looking at. cheers, Fisho1990.
  12. i use a shimano rack raider and a shimano sustain 2000 size with 6lb braid for my bream and flatty setup(you will definatly want to use braid or fused line such as fireline as it allows you to feel every little toutch and no stretch allows better lure action) my favorite SP lures are the squigies with the little thing of s factor stuff, im not sure if it works or not but it seems to increase my catch rate (it might just boost confidence when fishing) but i dunno ..i mostly use squidgy fish or wriglers in the 65-70mm range and sometimes smaller for picky bream like the critter or bug. if its bigger lizards you are after use bigger lures . i like the 100mm squigey fish in the "black gold" colour i have also found using more natural looking plastics catches more fish and what i tend to do is look at the food source in the area for the fish im targeting and try to mimik whatever that is whether it be big shiney mullet-looking plastics for jews or little prawn-looking ones for bream. if its bigger lizards you are after use bigger lures . i like the 100mm squigey fish in the "black gold" colour i hope this helps as i know how confusing it can be trying to find plastics to suit your style of fishing when you walk into a shop and have about 10,000 different types of lures to choose from wish you luck fishing and hope you find what you are looking for regards, fisho
  13. g'day mate just wondering if you know any good spots around the narra and collaroy areas .. i live in dee why but 99.9% of my fishing is done up the coast and i was after some local knowledge and it seems you have plenty any info would be great and congrats on the nice pair of jews . Fisho
  14. after a bit of complaining and my girlfriend has agreed to spend up to 500 dollars for a new reel for my birthday, just after some advice on a nice reel to go on a shimano snapper raider. i was looking at a sustain 400 or a twinpower for chucking soft plastics at bigger fish than i normally chase with these lures such as snapper jews and kings .. any suggestions on a reel ? (prefrably shimano) cheers
  15. not to long ago i spotted a couple of blokes catching all sorts of undersize fish, then quickly filleting them and THEN mincing them through a grinder thingie .. i called 1800 043 536 (i think thats the number for the fisheries)......they got there about 1 and a half hours later and the unsavoury characters had already left. i didnt want to approach them because they were big blokes and looked a bit backward in terms to our australian law and I thought the illigal fishing phone number for fisheries was set up to SWIFTLY deal with incidents such as this one... i suppose
