  1. Hey guys im soon moving to manly just wondering if the area is any good for fishing.I was wondering what species are in the area and what baits to use. at the moment I have a 12ft surf rod (planing on getting a heavier one) and lighter 6.6ft rod.
  2. Hello everyone, first post so go easy on me. I currently work with people who have different disabilities but a large portion of my clients LOVE fishing. The issue I’ve run into lately is that it’s pretty costly to keep frozen bait and ice constantly on the go. This is especially true when the fishing trips can be at the drop of a hat and end just as quickly when my clients get frustrated. I enjoy soft plastics and lure fishing but that can be a bit technical for some of my clients who often prefer a more passive bait and bobber style. We are based in Lake Macquarie and mostly targeting bream but will take whatever bites for some C & R. my question is, does anyone know of some good baits I could keep in my car for these impulsive trips? Something that won’t stink me out obviously. Would salted baits be a good option? Any good home made recipes? thank you so much for your help!
  3. I've recently decided to target some jewfish for the first time and was wondering if anyone knew any good land-based spots to go fishing for one along or near the northern beaches. Any additional tips on catching jewies would help too.
  4. Hi Guys, I've been fishing for the last year from wharfs and easy land based areas in the harbour areas and have had some good success and learnt a ton in that time period, however this weekend after long deliberation myself and my mate have decided to go to the northern beaches to have a fish on the beach itself, e.g Dee-why. 1. Can anyone advise a good decent spot to head to 2. Best rig setups and bait to use. 3. Low or high tide preferences ? My outfits for the weekend. Reel: Shimano Stella FJ 5000 (30lb Braid / 50lb Leader) Rod: Daiwa Sandstorm 10'6 (6-12kg) Reel: Shimano Bait Runner 6000D (30lb Braid / 50lb Leader) Rod: Shimano Aerowave Graphite Surf 10ft 5-8kg Reel: Diawa BG 2500 (10lb braid / 20lb Leader) Rod: Crucis 7ft (2-5kg) (Used catching my bait) I would like to thank everyone in advance for your help and advise!!!
  5. Hey everyone, I'm going to sunshine in Lake Macquarie. I was wondering if anybody knows some good spots for bream, flathead or whiting around there and how to fish them (I'm only going as a once of so I won't take your favourite spot ?). I was also wondering how you guys would go about fishing a jetty/ wharf for bream, I am pretty new to fishing, however, from what I've gathered a running sinker down to a size 1 octopus hook with a bit of servo prawn on it would do ok if not the same caliber as some live poddy mullet suspended under a float, etc. Please put any advice about bread and butter species in this chat and if you feel like it share your PB bream.
  6. Hey guys, put a line out last night and must of snagged this thing as I was doing my jig. Any idea on what it was? I didn't touch it at all just used plyers to get the hooks out.
  7. Gday raiders, hope you are enjoying the long weekend. I am staying at Callala Bay and was hoping for some fishing charity. I’m trying to get some fresh fish for mum’s birthday dinner tomorrow. Any advice for a land based lure chucker? thanks, paul

  9. Hey Guys, I'm based out of neutral bay and have been really wanting to chase some Kings. (LANDBASED) I have tried Pillies and a few other bait but realised where l have been going there is a fair few Yakkas. I wanted to know if anyone had ANY great advice on what is the best Rigs / Bait setup to chase them. eg - how to hook a Yakka correctly and what method to use to maximise the length of there life in the water swimming around I really want to land a few good ones before l move on to targeting my next fish. Any advice is greatly appreciated - If you would like to get together and chase a few Kings with me please do so l would love the company!
  10. Hey guys I'm looking into getting a tinny for fishing and almost everything in this plan seems very possible except for one thing: storage. So, the kind of boat I'm looking into is a very small tinny or even a kitted out rowboat and the plan will be to have the boat moored somewhere and the turn up with an esky, rods and a small clip-on electric motor. The problem is I have got no Idea where to leave it and I don't exactly want to redecorate my backyard with a tinny or shell out heaps of money on some boat storage facility. Is there a free storage place somewhere? Can I just leave it tied up to some tree on a little beach? Any advice would be much appreciated. BTW I live around lane cove/hunters hill/Gladesville
  11. Hey guys, going to Narrabeen beach at around 12:00 in a few days. I haven't gone beach fishing before and quite obviously, I want to catch fish. I was just wondering how can maximise my chances of actually getting fish and perhaps scoring a feed.
  12. Having fished for the majority of my life, I'm only just discovering the fun of boat & LB game fishing. I'm interested in doing some shark fishing off the beach this summer. I'm aiming to target small-medium Sharks around 6ft, with a TLD50 50lb mono. I've gathered a few questions I can't really find answers to, and hoping some experienced fishermen can help. Will 150lb momoi mono leader do the job? Do you prefer solid wire or stranded flexible cable? I plan to kayak my baits out. What's the best anchoring option, running weight or a break-away system? I was thinking of anchoring a crab float in the area I want to fish and have a burley bag hanging off it. Then coming off the crab float - a bit of line tied to a ballon which is looped on to the leader (breakaway) so the bait is suspended and away from crabs. Roller or runner? Thimbles on the wear points or Flemished eyes? I appreciated the help - Thomas.
  13. Hi everyone, My name is Sam and i have no experience with saltwater/ocean fishing and looking to get into it! Most of the time i head out on Pittwater (Church Point) around the board moorings on my kayak and catch small snapper using pilchards or squid. but other then this, i have little to no luck catching anything substatial. I have a friend from work that has a tinny and we have been out from long reef a few times. He has a fish sounder with no gps. We find fish now and then. but actually catching them seems to be a problem. I have never caught a fish with a soft plastic yet, but everyone i speak to says they are the best thing to use. I understand that tidal conditions and the moon help with incressing chance of success What apps would you recommend for weather, tidal conditions, gps mapping etc Also any tips or tricks to better fisherman would be a great help. thanks everyone
  14. hi Guys im heading out on the Hawkesbury this Friday, doing some trolling along the heads and lion island, then fishing a little offshore, has anybody had much success lately?? any tips?? Thanks
  15. Hey fishos, At the moment I have a sienna 2500 paired with a catana which I use for SP, squidding etc. I'm thinking it might be time to upgrade to some heavier gear, my goal is to get some kingies and some larger fish then I've been getting in the hacking from the land, a kayak and hopefully eventually a boat. My issue is, I've never caught any decent fish and have little experience and knowledge when it comes to this. I've had a chat to a few people and have been recommended to get a thunnus 8000 with 50 pound braid. What do you guys recommend? I know it all depends on what I'm will to spend and I'm not to sure, I don't wanna break the bank but I know there is no point getting something that won't be good enough, and upgrading sooner then later? Thanks guys, any advise will be appreciated.
  16. Woke up at 7 this morning with my brother, planning to get straight on the water with our 2 man kayak. We ended up reaching mainabar by 8:20ish and pumped all our yabbies in 30 mins Started fishing from the east most beach facing easy but the water was moving to much, do we hoped backed in the kayak and paddled a bit further west and fished facing north. In a few hours I had caught one tiny flatty and my brother was on the big 0 We ended up moving into burraneer bay and only catching some tiny snapper. Had two catana rods with light set ups ( braid and fluro with 1/8th jigs) mainly with SPs We also had a crappy rod set up with a long shank hook for the yabbies... There is probably a long list, but what did we do wrong and can I have any tips?!?!? Thanks guys
  17. Hey everyone! My Girl Friend got me a $200 BCF Voucher (God bless her soul ) I'll be fishing around Darling Point with family on Saturday night. I usually don't fish that far out (Considering i'm from West) I usually go to Clarke's Point / Drummoyne. With this voucher, i'll be purchasing A proper Live Bait Bucket for my Yabbies New Tackle Box 14lb Mono line What else can i grab? Something that may be handy at Darling Point. Not too sure what gets caught from there, what size fish it produces etc. What hook sizes are good, and can anyone offer some advice on that area? I still want a kingfish! Haha but probably a low chance at that depth & time Any advice at all would be appreciated
