  1. Went to spot x in the harbour to target some calminari and cuttle tried for an hour with the 1.5 jugs no hope on cuttle one small arrow a nice surprise considering we don’t usually get them sent it out live and it was chopped in half about 20min later, switched to the 2.2 and 2.5 jigs fished the deeper water and managed 4 nice calamari and three cuttle fish perfect bait size
  2. Hey All, So last Friday I went out again for the second time in a week, absolutely unheard of for me due to work and other commitments. Started on the water at the usual crack of dawn and started doing my favorite thing, jigging for calamari. Within the first 1 hr or so of drifting we grab enough for a feed. As soon the sun started the come up he calamari were off the bite and it was time for a good old bottom bash. Went to spot X and we fished the reef for a good 2 hours or so for a nice mixed bag of fish. x1 nice legal pan size snapper at 31cm a thumber flathead, mowie and few of the usual suspects. Towards mid morning the wind started to pick up a bit so we decide we had enough fish for the family, cousins, etc and we decided to head in for a nice lunch at Bundeena as I had enough feeding the fish and I needed to feed myself. it was straight home from there. Great day to be out on the water, sure beats a good day in the office.
  3. Hi all, in the central coast this weekend and want to do some land based quid fishing. Potentially have access to kayaks. Any reports on squid action in the central coast? thanks
  4. Earlier this week, Stewy took me out for a session on the Cooks for Bream and Jews on his Fishraider boat. With us both being avid jew and bream fisherman, that was the plan anyway. We were on the water bright and early at first light and as the day played out, it became evident that the Cooks River would be a hard slog. We managed to catch a flathead (5" jerkshad) and a bream (on his new crab soft plastics which look unreal) before the change of plan to head into Botany bay and have a look around the corner at Molineux Point. Stewy also managed a cod of some variety - probably an estuary cod if someone can confirm. This was taken right at the end of the day. Now about Molineux, there have been reports of rat kings being caught here for the good part of a week (even reports posted here) and so we had our hopes up. The kings weren't busting up and we did work some stickbaits and poppers along a few of the markers on the way to the point. The point looked quiet as we passed by as the kings didn't seem to have gone through yet so instead of sitting down and waiting for them, we decided to go hunt some calamari squid. In short, we caught plenty. Well, Stewy caught plenty and I had to resort to netting them. The green-eyes were firing this morning and by the time I was able to store away the squid, put aside the net and have a cast, Stewy would be onto another sucker. This would repeat many times until we filled the bucket. Every jig we tried, we hooked up but if you guys were wondering what secret weapon Squidmaster Stewy had on, it was a Yamashita 1.8 in orange tiger. I made sure to get the scoop for you guys and I will certainly be getting a few of those jigs. 😎
  5. Took my boat to the local dealer yesterday for a routine service on my 60 ETEC. He rang yesterday to say it’s running well but needs a new solenoid, under warranty. Left it overnight as the part needed to be ordered. Well, it didn’t come in today, so I am boatless for a few days. I could have picked it up and used it on the weekend then take it back next week but I’ve lost my voice and am pretty crook with a cold, so I thought I’d rest up... but... I’m going stir crazy! I stopped in for a look at a breakwall near home this afternoon. Good to see the luderick are looking active. Then I spotted a few squid moving around. Headed home and grabbed a rod and some jigs. Got one nice fat one, then lost another and that was it. Also lost a decent bream on a Squidgie. It’s a good size but I’m torn. Do I cook it, or try and convert it into a snapper or a jewie?! ?
  6. Hey guys, I was just wondering what rods everyone could recommend for squid underneath $150. Preferably around a 3-6kg weight rating and a cast weight of around 25g as it will be used for other species as well (but mostly squid). all recommendations appreciated.
  7. Well headed out to BB just for a flick around to catch some flatties and to gather some early morning squid managed 3 calamari and then moved onto flatties. Spent 3 hrs flicking soft plastics, blades, all sorts and not even one bite all around towra and kurnel. So moved over to deeper water with the paternoster rigs on the north side of Bare Island kept drifting through a "supposed" bait ball, getting these weird bites and losing all of our baits to only realise when a few arrow squids surfaced that it was them that was stealing all of our baits so changed the top hook of the paternoster to a squid jig, dropped back down to 12m and chaos soon followed all up within 15 minutes managed 5 arrows. Also caught a nice sized occy and 2 flathead on the paternoster rig heres the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HgRI89QPq0
  8. Hi Guys, Went out Saturday 26th for a quick squid session, used 2.5 - 3.0 Yamashita bright coloured and natural coloured jigs, we managed nothing for two hours straight so we packed up and went home for the night. I was wondering if anyone has any different techniques for this area that I could try next time? Tight Lines Zac
  9. Headed down this morning to a middle harbour wharf for a friendly session & to teach a newbie mate a few of the basics. Probably spent more time untangling line & removing snags than fishing - anyhow managed 15 calamari which made the effort worthwhile. Also floated out one small squid live for the bonito, and kept a couple slimys for bait which were caught by my mate on a handline after his rod/reel privileges were removed for repeated infringements (namely hitting me in the head & hooking my fingers while baiting). Busted off what I thought to be a rat king also on a whole small squid, though it stayed very deep & circled after the first runs. Ended up besting me on the pylons before I got a look at it. Anyhow fun times & calamari for dinner with a few to spare for the bait freezer.
  10. Hello Raiders! Just thought I would post this to all those Squid freaks out there... Went out on Sunday last week during the day got to my squidding spot around 3PM and setup my rod and jigs ready to cast and blast them out of the water. The wind had picked up even though I had checked Willy's weather AND Weatherzone which both claimed there was going to be little WIND that day but I wasn't going to let a little wind spoil the fun. So I continued casting my jigs, I would cast straight and they would end up to the left, my first hookup on a 15cm calamari which was tiny was weird because I had crossed lines with the guy next to me and at the same time pulled this little one up haha. I continued working my jigs until finally the sun decided it's going down, as soon as the light started fading I hooked up 3 nice sized squid and one of them being an Arrow Head within the 8 casts I made. I decided that was enough and I packed my things up and left! Just goes to show that they are still out there but you will come across the small ones which can go back to be the next monsters. I don't have any photos of them as my phone was dead at the time! Cheers Squidders, Z.S
