  1. Gday legends Heading back to Wyangala for another crack. Has anyone camped at Gerties or Quartpot before? Camped in the van park last time but prefer the Bush camping if possible. Also can you launch a boat from these spots and is fishing off the bank any good of a night? Cheers Katoe
  2. Hi Raiders, Found this guy struggling in a rockpool at Moonee Beach and was licking my lips but thought it might be an endangered species so I released him. Can anyone id this? Thanks, undy
  3. Some pictures of a wonderful trip with my brother up to the territory. I could write pages here, but I won't. Fishing in & around the Finniss River was spectacular, just great scenery/country to be amongst - so much wildlife and beauty in this country, we need to respect it. Caught some great barra which was our aim, along with some other species such as cod, trevally, catfish and mackerel. Despite what TV show may depict, the fish certainly did not just "jump into the boat" up there, we really had to work for our fish, landing probably an average of 4 barra per day. I must say whilst a very special fish to catch, the barra didn't give the sustained fight I had imagined. It was all blistering in the very beginning - but I felt once you turned their head & dealt with any jumping, you had the fish properly 'beaten'. From there it was more just a case of dealing with the weight of the fish & navigating around snags etc. Once I find out how to load video I will try to do so, we have some wonderful film capturing wildlife, scenery & fishing. Most fish were caught slowly trolling - and by far the most productive lures for us were Rapala Xrap and Classic Barra 97 in gold colour, we used them almost exclusively. In addition I think one of the biggest fish pictured was caught on a killalure barra bait, which somebody at the campsite had given to us as they were departing. I'm back in reality (Newcastle) now & will have some small windows of fishing time in the coming weeks. I am keen to get into the winter whiting & salmon that should be around - if anyone has the inside scoop please drop me a line!
  4. Hi raiders just got back from 3 days at Wyangala what a great place a return trip already in the planning early in the new year.We had 3 boats who spread out trying a variety of techniques bobbing live yabbies and worms, plastics, casting hardbodies and of course trolling hardbodies and spinnerbaits. We got about 4hrs of great weather the first day after that the weather turned foul for the rest of the trip, but we still fished hard for a total of 4 cod and 4 goldens all between 40-50cm.We pulled hooks on a couple of big fish also. All fish were caught trolling with purple and chartreuse hardbodies doing the damage apart from one cod caught at camp on cheese(yabbies and worms went untouched).Interestingly all the goldens disgorged shrimp on capture but our shrimp traps which were deployed the whole time returned 5 shrimp only.A Wyangala regular advised me upon arrival back in Sydney that December is always tough fishing there and we can expect better returns February to May,just wondering if any other raiders have experience at Wyangala and agree. All in all we had an awesome time in a great location and cant wait to hit it again.MERRY XMAS AND TIGHT LINES.
  5. Found this in Botany Bay a few weeks back...asked around FB etc most people say it's a Wirrah but I've caught many Wirrahs before this is not a Wirrah in my opinion...didn't taste like an old boot that's for sure, according to the fortunate family I gave it to, possibly the best fish they've ever tasted. Anyone else ever come across this species of Cod/Groper before? It was around 55-60cm, weighed approximately 3-4 kilos. It's definitely not the protected Black Cod so please don't go there please folks...I emailed the Australian Museum also...no reply to date. Thanks guys.
