  1. Hey guys im soon moving to manly just wondering if the area is any good for fishing.I was wondering what species are in the area and what baits to use. at the moment I have a 12ft surf rod (planing on getting a heavier one) and lighter 6.6ft rod.
  2. Hey guys, heading down to manly and just asking about fishing spots around there? Do the rocks at manly cove produce good stuff.Squid? Flathead? Or is it worth flicking SP’s at the manly cove beach? Open to all info because I’m a bit new to this area. Ps , (I will have 2 outfits with me, a light Pelagic rod (8kg rod, 15lb braid 30lb leader and I will also have a lighter rod (2-4kg 8lb braid 12lb leader) I’m mainly looking for squid and flathead, but also wouldn’t mind having a crack at those kings or really anything that bites and fights 😀 Thanks Will
  3. Hey guys I was out fishing at the little manly cove jetty/pier and caught a nice sized red morwong and had no other luck apart from some tiny snappers and bream. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck at this spot. Has anyone tried out metal lures for kingfish or tailor? Most people there were just catching leather jackets and bream apart from the occasional blue fish. Share your thoughts on this location.
  4. Hi guys, just looking for some general info. Want to target sharks either from shore or possibly if I hire a boat. Looking to go anywhere in the Northern beaches from Manly up to Palm beach. What would be my best bet? Just looking to get into some of the smaller species to start with, bronzies etc. Any ideas as to best spots to start from? Am I a bit early and better to wait til summer or could it still be possible now. Cheers
  5. Hi There, My name is Andras and I'm a total beginner, I have fished 3 times for now. I catch 2 small Breams at Narrabeen a few days back, but that's it for now. Today i was at the Manly Dam, and I had a great time, what a beautiful place, although have not seen a single fish. I started to google, and I apparently Bass fishing is the main thing up there, but I also heard that in the winter months its much harder to catch one. If anybody has any recommendations, how and what to fish there, this time of the year I would highly appreciate it. I am not strictly looking for advises for the dam, if there is other places you guys think I should try with different types of fish and set ups, I am also interested. I have been to Grotto Point, also an amazing place, had a fish around my bait but got away. Finally if anyone is going to fish the dam, or anywhere around manly and would not mind the company of curious beginner, to show him a few techniques and tricks, lt would be amazing. All the best to everyone. Andras

  8. hey, i am going to go to the spit bridge tonight and try my luck on some live tailor baits and as they have to be of legal size i was wondering will there be anything around big enough to take the bait. any tips on using tailor for live bait would be appreciated.
  9. Hi All, i am brand new to Moreton Bay Area having just moved to Wynnum. Being bayside I have bought my first boat. I am keen to get some local knowledge of how to fish the bay and where to go to target particular species. Im set to go, got the boat, few different types of rods, snapper and bream rods. Crab traps. Very excited!! if anyone would like to come out fishing and show me the ropes so to speak. Boat is a Cruise craft bow rider with a simple fish finder, got the navionics app too cheers Joel
  10. Hi All, There was an article in today's Sunday Telegraph on page 38 about how fishing in Sydney harbour has improved since kingfish traps and commercial fishing has been stopped. They go on to mention 10 species and great places to catch them. Included in this list is the squid which I chase a lot of as I use it to catch kingfish, mulloway and other species. One of the locations indicated for squid is the Manly area. To my knowledge the North Harbour part of Manly is an Aquatic reserve and can only be fished with line and you can only chase finned fish. This puts the squid out of contention. While the X marks the spot seems to be a little closer to Manly wharf and thus might just be clear of Aquatic zone they have also indicated a hot spot which is well within what I understand the zone to be. If the rules have changed and we can chase squid there it would be fantastic as it gives us another location in Sydney to chase them. Does anyone know anything more about the situation? Regards, Derek
  11. Hey guys, Just wondering if any of you can help me out with a few landbased spots for squidding around Manly in the evening/night or even during the day. I love squid, I have caught a couple here and there but never been able to really crack the code. I have all the right gear, Yamashita and YoZuri jigs.. egimax etc.. Ive heard that around Manly can be productive but just not very familiar with the area.. Any info would be appreciated.. cheers, Joe
