Chasing Kings (Help) - North Sydney

Hey Guys, I'm based out of neutral bay and have been really wanting to chase some Kings. (LANDBASED) I have tried Pillies and a few other bait but realised where l have been going there is a fair few Yakkas. I wanted to know if anyone had ANY great advice on what is the best Rigs / Bait setup to chase them. eg - how to hook a Yakka correctly and what method to use to maximise the length of there life in the water swimming around I really want to land a few good ones before l move on to targeting my next fish. Any advice is greatly appreciated - If you would like to get together and chase a few Kings with me please do so l would love the company!

    Yakkas

There is a spot in the harbour that has produced amazing amounts of yakkas for us every time. All sizes also. Biggest we caught yesterday was 32cm!

Slimies & Yakkas vs. Sweep etc

Hi Raiders, I've been reading through threads about catching live bait and I see a lot of negative press for sweep and diamondfish and pretty much anything else that isnt a slimy or yakka. I think the obvious assumption I can make is that other types of fish don't make good live bait, but I find myself curious as to why. I would very much appreciate some commentary or insight about this. For the purposes of this question I'm ignoring worms, prawns, nippers, etc. 1. For live bait, is the preference roughly slimies > yakkas > poddies? 2. Why is this so, outside of the assumption that it's because they work the best? (It doesn't matter why they work so much as knowing that they do, but enquiring minds and so forth...)

    Float fishing for tailor

Hey guys, just wondering how to catch tailor in the estuary with a float as thats where I have seen they like to hang out. I do have access to live and fresh caught yakkas caught on location plus frozen salted pillies. Is it better to use gangs or circles/suicides? The tailor like to rip up the yellowtail but I'm but looking for a second opinion. Thanks fellas

    American Fisho in Wollongong

Afternoon fellas, I've been putting in the hours learning how to catch yakkas, tying up balloon rigs, buying a new rod and reel combo (9ft Penn Allegiance rod / 4500 spinfisher w/ 300m of 30lb braid) and scouting the rocks around the Gong. I have come to the conclusion that if I wish to do battle with a kingy off the stones before I go back home November 21st, it will probably happen either north in Coalcliff/Stanwell Park or south in Kiama at the blowhole. Basically, if anyone ever needs a mate to head out onto the rocks with or wants to prove their experience by putting my on a kingy, I would be very grateful. Any tips on what tides to fish off the rocks or decent locations for a landbased angler operating on a student budget would be hectic. Thanks, Mike

    Sydney Harbour 20/11/13

Long day on the harbour started at sunrise collecting yakkas from balmoral then to sow and pigs. No luck either side of the tide change except for one kingy smashing a livey which I dropped..... :-( . Explored middle harbour and north head. Back to sow & pigs for the following low tide. Scored the 63cm flatty on a soft plastic. Then back to the pylons near the island at rose bay. Landed the 75cm kingy half hour after low tide about 6pm. Made the whole day worth it! PS water police came for the standard safety gear check at mid morning at sow & pigs
